work

I have read your honest cry and I want you to know it has been heard. What you describe is a very heavy burden, feeling worthless, far from God, depressed, under attack, struggling for work, and longing for holiness while feeling trapped by sin. God sees you in this low place and His love for you is not measured by whether you have a wife, children, a house, or a job.

First, the lie that you are worthless because you are single and without children or a house, and that Jesus does not love you for that reason, is not true. Your worth before God does not come from those good gifts. Scripture teaches that our worth and acceptance come through Jesus Christ alone, by His grace, not by our marital status or possessions or employment. He loved you while you were still a sinner and gave Himself for you. Marriage, when God gives it, is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and children are a gift from the Lord, but singleness does not make you less loved or less a Christian. You are not forgotten. The Lord's mercies are new every morning and it is because of them that we are not consumed, even when we feel at the very bottom.

What you share about pornography is a common and painful struggle, and you are right to want to flee it and to want holiness. This sin has a power to take hold of a person like an addiction to drugs or alcohol. It does not stay the same, it tends to want more and more, more explicit and more consuming, until a person feels enslaved and unable to quit, as if held in a vice. It destroys homes and lives, and Scripture shows it as part of the enemy's work to lead people away from God. Your desire to be free is right and God honors that desire. The power against it is not willpower alone but prayer and the washing of the Word of God over the mind. Jesus calls us to flee sexual immorality, which means to turn and run from it, not to fight it up close. That means making a clean break, removing access, bringing it into the light with a trusted mature believer or pastor who can walk with you and hold you accountable, and daily filling your mind with Scripture. Any sexual intimacy belongs only within the marriage covenant, and outside of that it will always enslave. God is able to set the mind free and cleanse it, and He does this as we humbly ask Him and stay in His Word.

You also describe depression and feeling that no one loves you and that you are the lowest of the low. Depression often grows from hopelessness, from looking at ourselves and our circumstances and seeing no way out. The way out that Scripture shows, especially in Lamentations chapter three, is to deliberately turn our thoughts from ourselves to the Lord and to recall who He is. When the prophet was in the depths of despair he reminded himself that the Lord is merciful, faithful, and compassionate. Try to fix your mind on those truths each day. Tell the Lord honestly how you feel, and then speak back to your own heart what is true about Him. He is near to the brokenhearted and He does not despise a contrite heart.

You prayed for holiness and for a single heart toward God. That is a beautiful prayer and it echoes the prayer in Psalm 86 to unite our hearts to fear His name. So many of us live with a divided heart, part wanting God and part pulled toward other things, and Jesus said we cannot serve two masters. Ask God each day to give you a singleness of purpose to love and serve Him. Holiness grows not by striving in your own strength while feeling condemned, but by drawing near to Christ, confessing sin quickly, and asking Him to change your desires.

I hear your burden about work, finances, not being able to afford books or resources, and not having a growth group, as well as your desire to love the Bible, to one day serve as a pastor, to see your father's business restored, and the painful rift with your brother, and your longing to return to Israel. God is not limited by money or resources. The Bible itself is sufficient to feed you and focus you. If you have access to Scripture, you have the main resource you need. Ask God to give you a fresh love for His Word and to provide fellowship with other believers who can encourage you. A calling to shepherd others is not based on having a wife and two children as a formula, but on character, maturity, and God's calling confirmed over time as you walk faithfully and are set free and restored. Keep that desire before the Lord, but seek first to be faithful where you are today.

For your family, I will pray that God brings reconciliation between you and your brother, that bitterness is healed, and that your father's work is guided by God's wisdom and provision. I will also pray that God opens the right door for work for you and provides for your needs.

Let me pray for you now. Father, I bring this dear one before You who feels worthless, depressed, and far from You. Show him how deeply he is loved in Jesus Christ, not because of what he has or has not achieved, but because of Your grace. Forgive his sin and cleanse him. Break the hold that pornography has had on his mind and set him free. Wash his thoughts with Your Word and teach him to flee temptation and to walk in holiness. Lift him out of hopelessness and help him to set his mind on Your mercies and faithfulness. Unite his heart to love and serve You with singleness of purpose. Provide work, provide fellowship, give him a growing love for the Bible, and heal the rift in his family. Restore what has been broken according to Your will and make him whole in Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.

You are not worthless. You are loved, you are seen, and there is hope in Christ for freedom, holiness, and restoration. Keep coming to Him honestly, stay in His Word daily, seek a faithful pastor or mature believer to walk with you openly, and do not give up.
