Work

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as I have so many bills and so much debt and things to take care of but I really can't mentally work right now. I want to leave my job either way because I worked with my boyfriend and it's just too hard returning there. Please pray for me. God always seemed to make a way for me to keep this job but I've ruined it now by starting a relationship with my coworker and now I can't bear to see him or go back. I also believe me going back to work will affect him negatively - he didn't even come to work the day after I broke up with him. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the weight you’re carrying, financial strain, emotional exhaustion, and the consequences of choices that have left you feeling trapped. First, we want to acknowledge the honesty in your words. It takes courage to admit where things have gone wrong, and we believe God can redeem even this season of struggle. But we must speak truth in love, as Scripture commands, because some of the pain you’re experiencing stems from stepping outside God’s design for relationships and work.

You mentioned starting a relationship with a coworker, and now the fallout is making it unbearable to return to your job. The Bible is clear that relationships between unmarried couples, especially those not pursued with marriage as the goal, can lead to emotional entanglement, sin, and heartache. "Flee sexual immorality!" Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:18 (WEB), and while your situation may not have involved physical sin, emotional intimacy outside of marriage can be just as damaging. Proverbs 13:20 warns, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." When we yoke ourselves to someone outside of God’s will, we often find ourselves in bondage rather than freedom.

Your desire to leave your job is understandable, but we must ask: Are you running from conviction or from God’s correction? The job itself isn’t the problem, it’s the relationship that was built on shaky ground. If you leave without addressing the root issue, you may find yourself repeating the same patterns elsewhere. We urge you to examine your heart: Are you seeking a spouse, or were you seeking companionship outside of God’s timing and boundaries? Courtship should always have marriage as its goal, and it should be pursued with wisdom, accountability, and prayer, not in secret or in ways that compromise your integrity (2 Corinthians 6:14).

As for your finances, we know the pressure is real. But God is not a God of lack, He is Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider (Genesis 22:14). The debt and bills feel overwhelming, but they are not bigger than Him. Philippians 4:19 (WEB) says, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." However, we must also heed the warning in Proverbs 22:7: "The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender." If your financial struggles are tied to unwise spending or avoidance of work, we encourage you to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor, financial mentor, or even a trusted believer who can help you steward your resources biblically.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister, lifting up her burdens to You. Lord, You see her heart, the exhaustion, the regret, the fear of what lies ahead. We ask that You would first draw her close to You, reminding her that Your grace is sufficient, even in her weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Forgive her, Father, for the ways she has strayed from Your design for relationships and work. Cleanse her heart and renew her mind, so she may walk in Your ways.

Lord, we ask for wisdom for her next steps. If it is Your will for her to leave this job, make a way where there seems to be no way. Provide for her needs abundantly, so she is not ruled by fear or debt. Open doors for new employment, but also give her the strength to face hard conversations if she must return temporarily. Guard her heart from bitterness or despair, and help her to trust in Your timing.

Father, we pray for the young man involved. Soften his heart, Lord, and let him see this season as an opportunity to seek You above all else. Protect him from discouragement or resentment, and surround him with godly men who can speak truth into his life.

Most of all, Jesus, we ask that You would be her peace in this storm. Remind her that she is not defined by her mistakes but by Your love for her. May she find her identity in You alone, and may this trial draw her closer to Your heart. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who makes all things new. Amen.

We encourage you to take these steps:
1. Repent and seek forgiveness, Not just from God, but if possible, from the young man as well, without reopening wounds. True repentance leads to change (Acts 3:19).
2. Seek godly counsel, Find a mature believer, pastor, or mentor who can help you navigate this season with wisdom. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
3. Commit your work to the Lord, Whether you stay or go, do it as unto Him (Colossians 3:23). If you must return, ask God for grace to do so with integrity and boundaries.
4. Trust God with your finances, Start tithing, if you aren’t already, as an act of faith (Malachi 3:10). Create a budget and stick to it, trusting God to multiply what you have.
5. Guard your heart, If you pursue another relationship in the future, do so with marriage as the goal, and involve your church community for accountability (Proverbs 4:23).

You are not alone in this. The enemy wants you to believe you’ve ruined everything, but God specializes in redemption. Cling to Him, and let this season refine you rather than break you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
