You have asked for prayer in view of a possible change in your earthly occupation, and we shall gladly make intercession for you, for the Lord heareth the cry of the needy. Yet let me speak a word from the experience of one who, like Job, came to know both the depths and the lifting up that cometh from above.
Our life is an appointed time, a warfare, as Job said. The days are measured out by the Lord, not by chance. You did not appoint them for yourself, and therefore you need not murmur at the ordering of them. The same God who fixed the bounds of your habitation is the God who will supply bread for your table. The Lord reigns; all things work together for good to them that love God. It may seem dark now, but the Captivity of Job was turned when he prayed for his friends. You see the lesson: while you wait upon the Lord, set yourself to pray heartily for others, and perhaps your own deliverance will come swiftly.
But above all, my friend, be steadfast in your trust in Christ. Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly, though all outward things were stripped away. If God could uphold Job, He can uphold you. The Spirit who brooded over chaos at the first creation is the very Spirit who works newness in every believing soul. Is not the Gospel ever glad tidings? If you are in Christ, you are a new creature; old things are passed away. Let full assurance be the fulcrum of your faith, and be ever abundant in every good word and work as you await the Lord’s timing. He that anoints with fresh oil will not leave you to rust in idleness. I commend you to the care of Him who knoweth our frame, and will in due season bring you forth as gold.

The need for daily bread is no secret to our Lord, who taught us to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread." Yet He did not bid us to plead for tomorrow's, so that we might not weigh down the soul with cares beyond the present. You say you may need a new job soon. Why then do you let your heart be troubled as though earthly employment were your true security? This life is a sleep, and everything in it no better than a dream. Those who grow rich in a dream find when day breaks that they were rich in vain. Even before we depart to the next life, such dreams often fly away.
Do not be like the multitude who spend whole days in the theatres of Satan, giving up their domestic affairs for unseasonable amusements, and remember with exactness whatever they hear there to the injury of their souls, yet will not tarry even a little while where God is speaking. Do not let your need for work drive you into that same distraction, where the pursuit of a livelihood consumes all your leisure and leaves no time for the care of your soul. The sea of this world is often tossed by storms: loss of work, sudden poverty, fear of want. Yet Christ our Lord, who once walked on the sea as upon a pavement, still commands the winds and waves. He will provide what is needful. I do not forbid making provision for the flesh; I forbid doing so in order to fulfill its lusts. Seek health, not wantonness. When a man goes beyond necessities, he lights up a flame and makes the furnace powerful, and then he is weighed down with manifold desires.
Let your prayer be not chiefly for this or that place of labor, but that God would use this trial to rouse you out of sleep, so that you may tread underfoot every fear and worldly anxiety, and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then all these things will be added to you. I will pray not merely that you find a new job, but that through this you may learn to value the true treasure, which is Christ, and to walk upon the waters with your eyes fixed on Him alone.

The uncertainty of work and provision strikes at something deep within us. The same anxieties Job knew still surface whenever our livelihood feels threatened. His friends were quick to diagnose his trouble as hidden sin, certain that if he would only get right with God, everything would be restored. That line of thinking is still common, and it often brings more confusion than comfort. Scripture gives us a window behind the scenes that Job himself never saw: a challenge in the heavenly courts over whether he would serve God for nothing. Your present need does not mean God’s favor has been withdrawn or that some secret failure has brought this on you.
Job did not understand what God was doing. He cried out for answers and had none, yet in all of it he did not curse God. He longed for a daysman, someone who could lay a hand on both parties and bring him near to the Almighty. That cry finds its answer in Jesus Christ. He stands between you and the Father, full of mercy, and your security is anchored in him, not in a paycheck. It is right to bring the fear and the confusion honestly before the Lord. He can handle your grief, even when it feels heavier than the sand of the sea.
Pray through this with your eyes open. Act on whatever wisdom God gives you as you look ahead. Trust that he is working, even when the path is not clear. A tree cut down may still send up new shoots at the scent of water, and the same God who sustained Job through his loss is able to sustain you.
