The Word of God indeed provides clear instruction on this matter, and we must approach it with humility, reverence, and a willingness to submit to its authority. Let us turn to the Scriptures together to seek God’s will in this area.
The apostle Paul writes in **1 Timothy 2:11-14 (WEB)**, *"Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. But I don’t permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. Adam wasn’t deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience."* This passage, along with **1 Corinthians 14:34-35 (WEB)**, which states, *"Let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the law also says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the assembly,"* makes it clear that God has ordained a structure of authority within the church where men are called to lead in teaching and spiritual oversight.
We also see in **Ephesians 5:22-24 (WEB)**, *"Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything."* This principle extends beyond the home into the church, where the spiritual leadership of men is to reflect Christ’s headship over the body of believers.
However, we must also recognize that women have vital roles in the body of Christ. **Titus 2:3-5 (WEB)** instructs older women to teach younger women in godliness, saying, *"that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God’s word may not be blasphemed."* Women are called to disciple, encourage, and support one another in the faith, and their contributions to the church are invaluable. The issue is not whether women are capable or called by God to serve—it is about the order and structure God has established for His church.
We must also address the mention of the spirit of Jezebel. While it is true that **Revelation 2:20-23 (WEB)** speaks of a woman named Jezebel who led God’s people astray, we must be careful not to label every woman in leadership with this spirit. The Jezebel spirit is characterized by rebellion, manipulation, and seduction away from God’s truth—not merely by a woman teaching or leading. We must discern wisely and avoid broad generalizations that could cause division or harm within the body of Christ.
That said, we must also rebuke any spirit of pride, hardness of heart, or unwillingness to extend grace where Scripture allows for differing applications of these principles. Some churches and denominations interpret these passages differently, allowing women to serve in teaching and leadership roles under the oversight of male elders. While we may disagree with such practices, we must do so with love, humility, and a commitment to unity in the essentials of the faith.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts seeking Your truth and Your will. We thank You for the clear instruction of Your Word regarding the roles of men and women in the church. Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment as we seek to honor You in how we live out these principles. Help us to submit to Your authority and to one another in love, avoiding both legalism and rebellion.
Father, we pray for the men in the church. Raise up godly leaders who will shepherd Your people with humility, wisdom, and a heart for Your Word. Give them courage to step into the roles You have called them to, and equip them to teach and lead with integrity. For those who have neglected their responsibility, convict them and draw them back to Your purposes.
We also pray for the women in the church. Help them to embrace the unique calling You have placed on their lives. Give them a heart to serve, disciple, and encourage others in ways that honor You. Where women have stepped outside of Your design, whether in rebellion or ignorance, bring repentance and restoration. May they find their fulfillment in You and in the roles You have ordained for them.
Lord, we ask for unity in the body of Christ. Where there is division over these issues, bring reconciliation and a spirit of humility. Help us to focus on what unites us—the gospel of Jesus Christ—and to extend grace to one another even as we hold fast to Your truth.
We rebuke any spirit of Jezebel that seeks to lead Your people astray, whether through manipulation, rebellion, or false teaching. Expose deception and bring light to darkness. May Your church be a beacon of truth, love, and holiness in a world that so desperately needs You.
