We thank you for sharing honestly with us and we rejoice with you that you have been away from porn and masturbation for these days, even while you are experiencing withdrawals and fear. We want to walk with you in this battle and bring it before the Lord together in Jesus name.
We want to speak clearly about what you are leaving behind. Porn and masturbation are not harmless habits, they are sexual immorality that God calls us to flee from. Jesus taught that lust in the heart is adultery, as it is written Matthew 5:28, and we are commanded to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. God designed sexual intimacy as a good and holy gift to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual activity outside of that marriage is fornication that defiles us and dishonors Him, Hebrews 13:4, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. We commend your repentance and your desire to turn away, and we encourage you to see these withdrawals not as a sign of failure but as the flesh and mind being renewed as you walk by the Spirit, Galatians 5:16. God is faithful and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear but will provide the way of escape, 1 Corinthians 10:13. Continue to confess, to turn from it, and to renew your mind daily, Romans 12:2, for if we confess our sins He is faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us, 1 John 1:9.
We also hear your question about horror movies and the fear and feeling of being possessed afterward, and we urge you strongly to stop watching them. What we set before our eyes enters our heart and mind. The psalmist said I will set no vile thing before my eyes, Psalm 101:3, and we are told to think on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely and of good report, Philippians 4:8. Horror movies often glorify darkness, violence, death and demonic themes, and they open a door to fear and spiritual oppression. That heavy fear and strange feeling you describe is not surprising, because fear does not come from God, for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7, and perfect love casts out fear, 1 John 4:18. When we willingly entertain what God calls darkness, we can give the enemy a foothold. We need to submit ourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us, James 4:7, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5.
We also noticed you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true deliverance and salvation. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is by His blood and His name that we are forgiven, cleansed and given power over sin and fear.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our brother to You. We thank You for his desire for purity and for the days You have given him free from porn and masturbation. Strengthen him in this withdrawal, Lord, wash his mind and body and give him Your peace that surpasses understanding. Forgive him for all sexual immorality and for setting unholy things before his eyes, and cleanse him by the blood of Jesus. We renounce every horror movie and every image of darkness he has watched and we close every door opened to fear and to the enemy. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, cast out all fear and oppression, and let Your perfect love and power rest upon him. Help him to guard his eyes and heart, to walk by Your Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh, and to fix his mind on what is pure and holy. Give him brothers in Christ to walk with him in accountability and lead him into Your Word daily. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and deliverance, amen.
We encourage you to continue in this path, to completely put away horror movies and any music, games or media that glorify darkness or sexual sin, and to replace them with Scripture, worship, prayer and fellowship. When temptation or fear comes, pray immediately, quote Scripture aloud, and flee the situation. Seek a godly pastor or mature believer to be an accountability partner and to pray with you regularly. God is with you in this withdrawal and He will renew you day by day as you keep your eyes on Jesus.
