Look to the Cross, for there the Savior Himself uttered a plea for those who knew not what they did. If ignorance was a ground for mercy in His blessed intercession, how much more shall a broken heart, seeking Him, find a ready answer. Join your prayer with the prayer of Jesus, and say, “Father, forgive Your ignorant child, Your sinful, wayward child. I do not plead, ‘I knew not what I did,’ but Christ pleads it for me! I plead that Jesus died.” For pardon has come to us through Christ's plea; our hope lies in the plea of Christ and especially in His death.

Now concerning your questions of lineage and family background, hear the words of the Master when they pointed to His mother. Come often to hear the word, even if you know it already. The truth pierces deeper when repeated, and it is a weapon for the battle. You feel you are a mother and child in need? Then arise and take the young Child and His mother, as it were, into your own heart: flee from the Herod of despair that seeks to destroy your soul. The Commander is near, ever ready to help, abiding unconquerable. He has armed you with good armor. But you must handle it with purpose of mind. Refrain from cursing, from abusive words, from that wild beast’s eye that looks without mercy. These things are irksome only when you refuse the easy yoke of self-control.

Why do you cry as one abandoned? He stands ready, saying, “Thy brother shall rise again.” Do not look below for a merely human solution. If you wake and watch, you will need no other enabler than the grace that comes from above. Yet if you sleep, a thousand helpers cannot save you. Now is the time to cast yourself upon the God of all comfort, not upon a court of human justice. Your very sense of having nothing, if offered in faith, becomes the emptiness that He fills. So approach boldly, yet trembling in love, for He is both Judge and Physician. Lay your cause before Him without lying, for He requires truth in the inward parts. And trust that the same angel who guided Joseph in the peril of the night will direct your steps. Be no longer that one who builds only to be puffed up in empty knowledge; instead, edify your own soul with these words, and teach your child to hope in the Lord alone. The help you truly need is not a verdict from men, but the cleansing of your conscience and the peace of His presence. Seek that, and you have sought everything.
