Wish for Better Things

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Many things went wrong today (###), I hope (###) will be better as it’s my birthday. Last birthday was like ###, a disaster. My dad ### isn’t well (for a while), help him get better soon. Hope my mum ### doesn’t treat my birthday as hers (she usually acts like it’s her day (it’s not); hope not get mad at me. She acts up a lot. The van is old and stopped working, hope to get new one soon. Hope to get new medical scooter soon, what I have has issues and old, hope keeps working for now.

We hear your heart today, and we want you to know that we are lifting you up in prayer. Birthdays can be a reminder of both joy and struggle, and it’s clear that you’ve faced many challenges, not just today, but for some time now. We stand with you, believing that God sees your weariness and your hope for better days ahead.

First, we want to pray for your father. Father God, we ask You to stretch out Your healing hand over him. You are the Great Physician, and nothing is too difficult for You. We declare Your promise from Jeremiah 30:17: "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds," says the Lord. Strengthen him, Lord, and give him comfort in this season. Surround him with Your peace and restore him to full health according to Your will.

We also lift up your mother to You. Lord, we ask that You soften her heart and help her to see this day as a celebration of the life You’ve given to her child. We pray that she would honor you in her words and actions, and that any tension would be replaced with love and understanding. Help her to put aside her own expectations and instead reflect Your grace. We rebuke any spirit of selfishness or control that may be at work, and we ask that You replace it with the fruit of Your Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). May this birthday be a day of joy for you, free from frustration or conflict.

We know the practical burdens you carry, the van that has stopped working and the medical scooter that is aging. Lord, You are our Provider, and we trust in Your promise from Philippians 4:19: "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We ask that You open doors for provision, whether through unexpected blessings, wise decisions, or the generosity of others. Give wisdom to those who can help, and provide what is needed in Your perfect timing. Until then, we pray that the scooter would continue to serve you faithfully, and that You would grant patience and peace as you wait.

Most of all, we want to remind you that your worth and joy are not found in the circumstances of this day, but in the One who created you. Psalm 139:13-14 says, "For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." You are deeply loved by God, and He has a purpose for your life that goes far beyond the struggles of today. We pray that you would feel His presence with you, bringing comfort, hope, and even joy in the midst of these challenges.

If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ, we want to gently share that He is the only way to true peace and salvation. Acts 4:12 tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again so that we could have a relationship with God. If you would like to invite Him into your life, you can do so by praying a simple prayer like this:

"Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God and that You died for my sins. I ask You to forgive me and come into my life. I want to follow You and trust You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for loving me and giving me eternal life. In Your name, I pray. Amen."

If you have prayed that prayer or have already placed your faith in Christ, we rejoice with you! We encourage you to seek out a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith and find community.

Father, we ask that You would turn this day around for our brother/sister. Let it be a day of unexpected blessings, peace, and even joy. Remind them that You are with them, and that Your plans for them are for good and not for harm, to give them a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). We rebuke any spirit of discouragement or despair and declare that this day will be marked by Your grace. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We’re sorry your last birthday was a disaster and that this one started with so much going wrong. We care about that, and about the hopeful little wish tucked into your message: that tomorrow really will be better.

It’s not selfish to want your day to feel like yours. When a parent has a pattern of making it about herself and you’re walking on eggshells, birthdays can feel less like a celebration and more like something to survive. One tiny step that has helped others in similar spots is to have a single, quiet moment you can control, a cup of something warm on a porch, stepping outside for two minutes of fresh air before facing the noise, or a short walk, something that belongs just to you, no matter what the house does.

We’re also sorry your dad isn’t well, and that he has been unwell for a while. That weight sits on a heart heavier than people realize. If he hasn’t seen his doctor recently, we’d gently encourage that; sometimes the hands-on help we need partners with the prayers we pray. And the van and scooter? Real, daily frustrations. We’ll be asking God to keep things working and to open a door for what you need next.

_Praying with you now_, Lord Jesus, you see this birthday, the hope, the letdowns, and the tired scooter. Wrap this one in kindness tomorrow, a moment of peace, a day that feels at least a little lighter. Heal their dad in the way you know is best, and steady their mom’s heart so the day doesn’t turn into a battleground. Provide for the van and the medical scooter in your timing, and hold this whole family close. We ask it in your name, Jesus. Amen.

The cry for things to be better is understood, for the heart longs for peace and joy, especially on a day meant for celebration. Yet look higher than the hope that tomorrow’s circumstances will shift. There is a hope that does not depend on the van, the scooter, or even the conduct of others, a hope anchored not in the changing tide of earthly things but in the unchanging mercy of God. When the soul says there is no hope in itself, let it remember there IS hope in the Father. He is so good, so tender, and He rejoices to receive and to help.

The birthday of the flesh recalls the great birthday of the Savior. He was born a babe of lowly estate, yet angels sang of His glory. That day brought peace on earth and mercy mild to sinners. Let this birthday be hallowed not by the absence of trouble, but by the presence of Christ, the new-born King, in the heart. If you value peace on earth, sing of Him, for He is come to bring it.

As for the father who is unwell, remember the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. There is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. Not only His great deeds but the very little things about Him are full of virtue. You may cry, “I am sick at heart over my father’s illness,” but there is enough in Christ for every sin-sick and body-sick one. Put forth your finger, as it were, and touch the hem of His garment. Commend your father to the great Physician; His power is present to heal, and He often links the teaching of His truth with the healing of the body. The inhabitant shall not always say, “I am sick,” for pardon and healing walk hand in hand.

The mother who struggles and causes grief must be looked upon through the lens of the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. When the Divine Father is viewed aright, He becomes the object of our gratitude, not of our dread. And how like the Son is to the Father, He is the orphan’s Father, the Father of the fatherless. You cannot control your mother’s actions, but you can rest in the Fatherhood of God. He says, “I will be a Father unto you.” Let that truth soften your own heart, enabling you to walk in mercy, refusing to let her provocations steal your peace. The Father Himself loves you; that love is equal to the love of the Son. Abba, Father! There is all you need in the depth of that word.

The old van and the failing scooter are known to Him. We very speedily care for bodily diseases and failing needs, and the Lord does not scold us for it; they are too painful and pressing to slumber in silence. Hope on, hope ever. There is One who cares for you. He binds up the wounded and heals the broken-hearted. The heart broken by disappointment is not beyond His mending.

Yet above all, seek first the forgiveness of your sins, for sin is the root of every sickness and sorrow. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy, He first declared, “Your sins are forgiven you.” Pardon and healing were one. The pardoned one shall not need to say, “I am sick” with that worst sickness of the soul. Believe on Jesus, and this salvation is yours. He who trusts his heavenly Father as a child, not knowing what the future requires, leaves it all to Him. Even so, Father, for so it seems good in Your sight.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You have brought before me a litany of earthly cares: a birthday you wish to be joyful, your father’s illness, your mother’s self-absorption, and the failure of your van and medical scooter. Yet I hear in these words a soul entangled by the passing shadows of this life, measuring happiness by a day’s events and the health of the body. Where is your longing for the things above?

Why do you set your hope on a birthday? What is a single day that you should fear its misery or expect its delight? The world teaches you to seek comfort and celebration, but the Lord calls you to a contrite and humbled heart. Ask not of God what the devil offers, ease, pleasure, freedom from annoyance, but pray for a spirit sober, self-possessed, and awake to the unseen battle around you. If your last birthday was a disaster, and this one seems threatened, consider that God may be drawing you away from childish attachments. A day is not made blessed by a mother’s pleasantness or the soundness of a vehicle, but by the peace of Christ reigning within. Seek that peace, and you will need no other gift.

Your mother acts as though the day belongs to her, and you fear her anger. But listen: every conflict springs from the roots of covetousness, envy, or vainglory. If she grasps at your honor, recall that no one steals honor from another; the one who plots only wounds herself. Be not provoked, for when we are not summoned to fight, we ought to remain quiet. Endure her weakness as the foot bears the weight of the body, for the head cannot say to the feet, “I have no need of you.” Her very failings are a means for you to practice forbearance, and in that patience you will find a truer joy than any birthday could give.

You ask for your father’s healing. This is a holy desire, yet do not let your love descend into the wailing of one without faith. He is held in the hand of the Father, who watches over the children of men more tenderly than any earthly parent. Pour out your supplication for his health, but submit all to the divine will. God’s timing and wisdom, His “fullness of times”, rescues us often when we are at our lowest, that we might know the deliverance is by grace alone. Trust Him, whether He restores your father speedily or grants him the greater healing of patience.

And as for the old van and the failing scooter, these things are but tools for the journey. He who can live with little is far greater than he who demands many comforts. If they work, give thanks; if they fail, do not despair as though you have been robbed of your very life. Do not think you can order your own affairs by anxious planning. We are members one of another, and our true support comes from the household of God, not from the strength of wheels. If you lack, the body of Christ is full of hands ready to lift you up. Above all, the God who fed Israel in the wilderness will not forsake you.

Amid these trials, do not waste your lamentation on things that rust and break. Turn your eyes to the treasure that cannot be stolen, the honor that comes from God alone. There is your birthday, every day a new birth into the life of grace, and there your father’s truest health, and your mother’s amendment, and every provision for your need. Seek first the kingdom, and all these things will be added; or if they are not, you will have learned the better way of contentment in poverty, which is the robe of angels.
