Your prayer for wisdom honors God, and it is exactly the kind of prayer He loves to answer. Wisdom is described in Scripture as the principal thing, more valuable than rubies or riches, and nothing we desire can compare with it. To ask for it is to ask for what matters most.

Scripture makes a distinction between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge gives us facts, but wisdom teaches us how to live those facts out with prudence and good judgment in everyday decisions. That is why wisdom is pictured as a person calling out in the streets and at the gates, inviting everyone to come and eat at the table she has prepared. It is an open invitation to all who will listen.

The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a reverent love for Him that hates evil and wants to walk in His ways. Apart from Him, even the highest human wisdom is foolish, and the world by its wisdom did not know God. True wisdom comes from above and is found in Jesus Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and redemption, so to seek wisdom is really to seek more of Christ.

You can be encouraged by the example of Solomon. When he was given opportunity to ask for anything, he asked for wisdom to walk rightly before God and to handle the responsibilities given to him. God was pleased with that request and gave him wisdom in abundance, and also provided what he had not asked for. God is still pleased when His children ask in the same way.

Wisdom is also practical. By wisdom the Lord founded the earth and established the heavens, and by wisdom a house is built. Wisdom dwells with prudence and gives insight for what you call little everyday problems. God cares about those small matters, and He gives wisdom not as a defense like money, but as something better, for wisdom gives life to those who have it. It will preserve you and keep you when you love it and do not forsake it. The promise is that whoever finds wisdom finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, and that person is blessed who watches daily at wisdom's gates, listening for instruction and refusing to turn away.

Having wisdom does not mean you will be immune from problems. As children of God we still face distressing and vexing situations, hurts and pressures, just as everyone does. The difference is that the Lord is with us in those problems to redeem and help us and to bring us through victoriously. The wisdom that comes from above does not produce envy and strife like the wisdom of this world, which is earthly and sensual. The wisdom from God produces purity, peace, and the fruit of the Spirit, and it can be seen in a life that is becoming more like Christ.

My prayer for you and for the person you mentioned is that God will pour out His Spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding upon you both. May He teach you to fear Him and to hate what is evil, to love His Word, and to grow in the knowledge of Jesus. May He grant you prudence for each small decision and grace to walk in righteousness, judgment and equity in all the details of daily life. May He keep you as you seek Him daily, and may you find life and favor as you walk in His path.

Father, thank You for this desire for wisdom. Grant to these two a listening heart, an understanding heart, and a life that is guided by Your wisdom in Christ. Help them in every everyday need, and draw them closer to Yourself. In Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have been lifting up your request for wisdom for you and your loved one and for the Lord to help you both with the little everyday problems you shared with us. We have been asking God to pour out His wisdom and understanding upon you both and to guide your steps and give you peace and clarity in each small decision and daily challenge you face. We are reminded of the promise in James 1:5 that if any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to him and we stand on that promise for you. If your request was answered please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name Amen
