🙇🏻 Wisdom & Revelation to Know God, The Hope of His Calling, Riches of Glorious Inheritance and the Surpassing Greatness of His Power, Eph 1:15-23

Beloved of All
🙏 "For this reason, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all those God has made holy, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you in my praying: 17 'That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give to us a Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation in the deep and intimate knowledge of Himself. 18 I pray that the eyes of our heart may be enlightened, so we will know the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in those who have been sanctified, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accord with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His Right Hand in the Heavenly Places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, in this age and in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as Head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way,'" Eph 1:15-23.

We rejoice with you in this beautiful prayer from Eph 1:15-23 and we join our faith with yours, asking the Father to answer it fully in our lives.

What a profound request you have shared, for this is the very heart of what the apostle Paul prayed for the believers at Ephesus. We hear your hunger to know God more deeply and intimately, and we pray this same prayer with you and for you. We give thanks for your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, just as Paul did, and we do not cease to pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, Eph 1:17.

We love how this prayer asks not for more earthly things, but for spiritual sight. That the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Eph 1:18. This is a prayer to truly see. To know the hope of His calling is to understand with assurance the future He has called us to, an eternal hope that does not disappoint, because we are called to be conformed to the image of His Son and to share in His glory, Rom 8:29-30. To know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints is to grasp how precious we are to Him, that we are His treasured possession and His inheritance, and He delights in us.

And to know what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, Eph 1:19-20. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come, Eph 1:21, is the power at work toward us who believe. He put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the assembly, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all, Eph 1:22-23. When we truly see this, fear and doubt must flee.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him with this passion, for to know Him is eternal life itself. This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ, John 17:3. And God delights to give wisdom to those who ask. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We also pray as in Col 1:9 that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

We pray together now.

Father of Glory, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Head, and we thank You for Your great love and for the faith You have birthed in us. We ask that You would give to us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the deep and intimate knowledge of Yourself. Enlighten the eyes of our hearts, Lord, that we may truly know the hope of Your calling, the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints, and the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe. Help us to comprehend more fully the resurrection power that is already at work in us and that Christ is seated far above all rule and authority and that all things are under His feet. Draw us into a deeper fellowship with You, that we may know You as You desire to be known, and let Your will be done in our lives as we grow in the knowledge of Your Son. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, amen.

We are grateful you shared this prayer from your heart. That desire to know God more intimately, to really grasp the hope He has called you to and the power He offers, is something we want to stand with you in.

What strikes us is that this kind of knowing is not just more information. It is God gently opening the eyes of our hearts so what we already believe becomes more real in daily life. It grows as we stay close to Him in prayer and in His Word, not rushing but letting Him shape how we see Him and ourselves.

A simple way we have seen this prayer take root is to make it your own for a little while. You might take a few unhurried minutes each morning this week and pray through it phrase by phrase in your own words, pausing on the one line that most catches your heart that day and talking honestly with God about it. It keeps prayer relational rather than pressured.

We are praying for you in this.

Father, we thank You for the hunger You have placed in our friend to know You more. We ask You to give a spirit of wisdom and revelation that makes Your presence and Your purposes clearer day by day. Enlighten the eyes of the heart to see Your hope, Your inheritance and Your great power at work, and draw our friend into deeper fellowship with You. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

Here is the original text:

We have heard your request with thanksgiving, even as the Apostle gave thanks upon hearing of faith in the Lord Jesus and love toward all the saints, and we do not cease to pray for you according to that same pattern.

Our prayer is that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give unto you the Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation in the deep and intimate knowledge of Himself. For all true knowledge of God is attended by affection for Him, and to know Him is to love Him. The knowledge of God is at once the beginning and the end of wisdom, and it is the Holy Spirit who is the Teacher of the Truth of God, unalloyed Truth, practical and divinely effective. Apart from Him we cannot know the Son, and apart from the Son we cannot know the Father, for there is such an intimate union between them that to know the one is to be taught by the other. We pray therefore that He who reveals Christ to the heart would open the eyes of your heart, that being enlightened you may see what otherwise remains hidden.

We pray that those enlightened eyes may know three things which the Apostle sets before us. First, the hope of His calling. This is that effectual calling which His grace comes with dispatch, not a mere invitation which may be refused, but a calling which draws the heart with a magnetic power to Christ and makes the sinner run after Him. It is a holy and heavenly calling, full of present grace and of future glory, and blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord therein.

Second, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. You are His portion and He is yours, and the inheritance is glorious because it is secured by Christ who is seated far above all rule and authority and power and dominion. To know this is to have a savor of Christ streaming from the life, as incense from a censer filled with glowing coals.

Third, what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of the strength of His might which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places. Christ personally is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and Christ in His gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and Christ in the heart is power for holiness and service. That same power which raised Christ is toward you, that you may have power with God in prayer and prevalence in intercession, and power against sin and the world.

May the Lord grant you to prove this in your own experience, that Christ may be your wisdom to guide you and your power to sustain you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, and walk worthy of Him in all good works. We commend you to Him who is Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all, trusting that He who has begun this good work will perfect it until the day of Christ.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request for wisdom and revelation to know God more deeply is itself a work of grace, and we give thanks for it. Like the Apostle who having heard of the faith and love among the believers ceased not to give thanks and to make mention of them in his prayers, so we now make mention of you before God with thankfulness.

We pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the deep and intimate knowledge of Himself, and that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened. For without the help of the Holy Spirit we cannot apprehend these great mysteries, but by His might we are strengthened to know them and to remain unshaken in trial.

We ask that you may truly know the three great things for which Paul prayed. First, the hope of His calling, that you may see clearly the living hope to which He has called you in Christ and not be drawn aside by empty reasonings. Second, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, that you may understand what an inheritance of the kingdom He has prepared and promised to those who are sanctified, and how great His generosity is toward those who do what is right. Third, the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, which is according to the working of the strength of His might which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

He who upholds all things by the word of His power and who purged our sins and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high is now Head over all things for the church, which is His body. To know Him in this way is not a wisdom of this world, but the wisdom of God revealed in mystery, and it leads to love, obedience, and hope. Continue to seek Him in prayer and in the Scriptures, asking daily for an enlightened heart, and trust that He who has begun this good work will teach you by His Spirit to walk worthy of the calling you have received.
