Eph 1:15 "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all those God has Made Holy, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you in my praying: 17 'That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation in the true knowledge of Himself. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so you will know the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in those who have been sanctified, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accord with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His Right Hand in the Heavenly Places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, in this age and in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way,'" Eph 1:15-23.

This prayer from Ephesians 1 is not merely a request, it is a declaration of our dependence on the Holy Spirit to illuminate the truths that transform our lives. We stand with you, asking the Father of glory to open the eyes of our hearts so that we may see Him more clearly, love Him more deeply, and walk in His purposes more fully.

The wisdom and revelation we seek are not intellectual achievements but gifts from God, granted to those who humbly seek Him. The apostle James reminds us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him" (James 1:5 WEB). This wisdom is not just for knowledge’s sake but to align our lives with His will. The revelation we crave is not a secret mystery hidden from us but the unveiling of Christ in us, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). It is the Spirit of God who reveals these truths to us, as Jesus promised: "However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13 WEB).

The hope of His calling is not a vague wish but a confident expectation rooted in God’s faithfulness. He has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9), and this calling is irrevocable (Romans 11:29). The riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints are not material wealth but the eternal treasures of His kingdom, righteousness, peace, joy in the Holy Spirit, and the promise of reigning with Christ (Romans 14:17, 2 Timothy 2:12). This inheritance is secure because it is kept in heaven for us, "where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal" (Matthew 6:20 WEB).

The surpassing greatness of His power is the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of the Father, far above all rule, authority, power, and dominion. This power is not dormant but actively at work in us who believe. Paul declares, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB). This power enables us to overcome sin, resist the devil, and walk in victory. It is the power that transforms us from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18) and equips us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).

Yet, we must also address a critical truth: this wisdom, revelation, hope, inheritance, and power are only accessible through Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). If we seek these blessings apart from Christ, we seek in vain. The Spirit of wisdom and revelation is the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9), and without Him, we remain in darkness. If you have not surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, repent, and believe in Him as your Lord and Savior. "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9 WEB).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You, the Father of glory, in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We ask that You would grant us a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the true knowledge of Yourself. Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord, that we may know the hope to which You have called us, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints. We long to experience the surpassing greatness of Your power at work within us, the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand.

Father, we confess that apart from You, we can do nothing. We need Your Spirit to guide us into all truth, to reveal Christ to us, and to transform us into His likeness. Remove any veil of unbelief, pride, or distraction that hinders us from seeing You clearly. Help us to walk in the fullness of our calling, to live as heirs of Your kingdom, and to rely on Your power to overcome every obstacle.

We also pray for those who may be reading this and do not yet know You. Soften their hearts, Lord, and draw them to Yourself. Let them see their need for a Savior and turn to Jesus in repentance and faith. May they experience the life-changing power of Your love and grace.

Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the good work You have begun in us. May we walk in the light of Your truth and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

True knowledge of God is not a riddle to be solved by the intellect, nor a treasure to be mined by deep thought. It comes by a distinct revelation of the Spirit, as surely as Christ Himself is the wisdom and power of God. You pray for this Spirit of Wisdom, and it is a prayer well-pleasing to the Father, for it seeks what He delights to give. But see that you look for this knowledge nowhere else but in Jesus Christ. In His complex person, as God and man, is hidden all the wisdom your soul requires. If you would know the glory of God, you must turn your eyes to the Crucified and Risen One, for there, and there alone, the brightness of the Father’s face is seen without terror. The light of the knowledge of the glory of God is in the face of Jesus Christ, and the Spirit opens blind eyes to behold it.

You long to know the hope of His calling. That hope is not the flimsy thing the world clings to, a frayed rope that snaps in the storm. The hope of the divine calling is founded upon the effectual work of the Spirit. When God calls a man, He does not merely invite and then leave him to his own strength. He calls, and the dead hear the voice of the Son of God and live. He calls, and a great “must” is written on the heart, drawing the sinner irresistibly to the Savior. This is a hope sure and steadfast, anchored within the veil. Have you heard that heavenly call, not in the ear only, but in the deeps of your soul, so that you were made to say, “My Lord, my God”? Therein lies the blessed hope, for whom He called, them He also justified. It is a hope that purifies, a hope that sustains under trial, a hope that will never make ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Ghost.

The riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints is a thought too vast for mortal minds, yet the Spirit can give you a taste of that heavenly feast even now. All that God has is yours in Christ. He has made the heirs of salvation to be joint-heirs with Jesus. When you contemplate the covenant mercies, the present comforts of grace, and the immeasurable weight of eternal bliss, you are gazing upon a poor fraction of that inheritance. Do not measure it by your feelings or your present poverty of spirit; measure it by the worth of the Lamb who purchased it. Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places is yours in Him. And the Spirit enables a man to know this not as a dry doctrine, but with the warm, heart-assuring seal of its truth upon his inmost being. Cry for that Spirit to bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God, and if a child, then an heir.

As for the surpassing greatness of His power, fix your faith upon the resurrection of Christ. There is the measure of it. The same power that tore the bars of death asunder, that lifted the great stone, that quickened the cold clay of the Savior, and that set Him at God’s right hand far above all principality, that very power works toward us who believe. What mountain can stand before such power? What sin, what lust, what corruption of the heart can defy the strength of Him who raised up Jesus? This is not the power of a mere man’s will, but the working of the strength of God’s might. When you feel your own utter weakness, you are nearest to proving this strength made perfect in you. Remember Jacob, who had power with God and with men and prevailed. Whence came his power? Not from his mighty sinews, but from his tears and his desperate hold of the angel. The power of a prevailing child of God lies in the strong grip of faith and the cry, “I will not let Thee go.” This power is at its height when you can lisp “Abba, Father,” knowing yourself a true nothing, and God your all-sufficient everything.

Seek, then, not some vague illumination, but this fourfold knowledge, and seek it all in Christ. He is made of God unto you wisdom. In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. The hope of His calling is a hope of grace through the finished sacrifice. The inheritance is secured by His blood. The power is the power of His resurrection. When you know Jesus, personally, intimately, by the revelation of heaven in your soul, then you know the Father. Then the sayings of God become not merely true in the letter, but life and peace to your spirit. Go to the foot of the Cross. Look up and know yourself saved. Look down and see your sins drowned in the Redeemer’s blood. Look forward and behold your mansion prepared. Christ, the power and wisdom of God, is the sum and substance of all you have asked, and He gives Himself freely to every soul that seeks Him.

You have set your heart upon the very treasures the Apostle prayed the Ephesians might receive, and this is no small thing. For when a soul yearns for wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, it is already being drawn by the Father's own hand. Consider how the blessed Paul, whose affection for the saints surpassed all telling, did not cease giving thanks and making mention of them in his prayers. He knew that these riches are not grasped by human reasoning, but only by the Spirit who searches the deep things of God.

What is this hope of His calling? It is not a fleeting wish, but the anchor of our souls, hidden now from the eyes of the flesh yet certain as the resurrection of Christ Himself. You ask to know it, and rightly so, for it is the inheritance of those who have been sanctified, a glory so immense that all the trials of this present life are not worthy to be compared with it. Yet do not think that your own understanding can lay hold of it. The heart must be enlightened, the eyes of the inner man opened. This is the work of the Holy Spirit alone. As I have said before, many things we express but cannot conceive, and many things we conceive but cannot utter. Such is the knowledge of God. We know that He is everywhere, but how, we do not understand. We know He is without beginning, but our minds stagger at the thought. Receive this, then, with faith and reverence, and when your reasoning fails, glorify Him all the more, for you have a God who surpasses every thought.

Consider also the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. What power is this? It is the very might that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him far above all rule and authority. That same power works in you, even now, if you believe. Do you see? The Cross, which seems foolishness to the world, is the very demonstration of ineffable power and wisdom. For Christ has been made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. You need not the wisdom of Plato or the reasoning of the philosophers; you have Christ Himself, and whoever has Him is wiser than all men.

Therefore, let your prayer be unceasing. Give thanks even now, knowing that God who began a good work in you will complete it. But remember, the deep things of the heart are known to God alone. He sees your longing; He knows your frame. Cleave to Him in humility, and He will strengthen you by His Spirit in the inner man, that you may comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth of His love. This love which extends everywhere, this mystery which has been providentially ordered for our salvation, is not taught by words of human eloquence. It is the Holy Ghost who must make it known, and He will, if you continue in faith and love toward all whom God has made holy.

Pray then without ceasing: "Father of glory, enlighten the eyes of my heart." And as you pray, walk worthy of the calling you have received. For the hope of His calling and the riches of His inheritance are not merely to be known, but to be lived, until that day when faith becomes sight and we are filled with all the fullness of God.

That longing for a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him is exactly what the Father wants to stir within you. The book of Revelation reminds us that God is always unveiling His Son: the very word “apocalypse” means an unveiling. When we truly see Jesus Christ for who He is, our eyes are opened to what He has already done and what we possess in Him.

You are praying to know the hope of His calling. That hope is not a vague wish but a living certainty anchored in the reality that Christ is the first begotten from the dead. His resurrection guarantees your inheritance. Right now, the Holy Spirit is the down payment, the earnest of that full redemption, working within you as the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, and might. This same Spirit rested upon Jesus in His earthly life, and now He works in you to fill you with the knowledge of God’s will.

The surpassing greatness of His power toward us is the very power that raised Christ from the grave and seated Him far above every spiritual authority. John was given a glimpse of that throne: the cherubim ceaselessly declare God’s holiness, and all creation ascribes blessing and glory and wisdom and power to the Lamb. That throne is not a distant spectacle; it is the center of reality, and the One who sits there is actively ruling for the sake of His church. He has placed all things under His feet and given Him as Head over all things to the body. That means the power you need to walk through your days is not a trickle but the full flood of Jesus’ own might.

So do not cease giving thanks as you pray this. The Father of glory delights to answer it. He has already blessed you with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. As you meditate on the unveiled Christ, the eyes of your heart will grow brighter. The hope will become more solid. The riches of His inheritance will feel more real than the fading treasures of this world. And the power that overcomes every darkness and every enemy will become your daily strength. Trust in the goodness of God, for it is His kindness that leads us to repentance and faith. He is the One who is, and was, and is to come, and He holds you securely until that day when you stand before the throne and sing the new song with all the redeemed.
