We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up those who are facing the dangers of high winds and storms. Father, we know that You are the Creator of the winds and the waves, and that even the stormy seas obey Your voice. We ask that You would calm the winds and still the storms that are raging, both literally and metaphorically, in the lives of those who are in harm's way.
Lord, we pray for the safety of all those who are traveling, especially those who are driving in these treacherous conditions. Protect them from the perils of the road, and guide them safely to their destinations. We ask that You would place Your hedge of protection around each vehicle, and that You would give wisdom and discernment to each driver. "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.' For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday." (Psalm 91:1-6)
Father, we also pray for those who are feeling the effects of the storms in their lives—whether it be emotional, spiritual, or physical. We ask that You would calm their fears and anxieties, and that You would remind them of Your constant presence and love. Help them to trust in You, even when the winds are howling and the waves are crashing. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling." (Psalm 46:1-3)
We rebuke the spirit of fear that seeks to grip the hearts of those in the path of these storms. We declare that perfect love casts out fear, and we pray that Your love would flood the hearts of those who are afraid. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love." (1 John 4:18)
Lord, we thank You for Your promise to never leave us nor forsake us. We trust in Your sovereign power and ask that You would bring peace and safety to all who are affected by these storms. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
