Wife wants to divorce

Disciple of Prayer
O Lord Jesus , my God and my saviour. Please restore what is broken and fix the relationship between me and my wife. My wife mentioned today she wants a divorce as she no longer feels safe, respected and loved with me. Please let me grow to be a better and right husband and let the holy Spirit soften her heart to not continue with the divorce. Please let it not happen as you hate divorce Lord.. Do not let our 3 children suffer and deal with the pain of growing up in a broken household. Please change me to what my wife needs and be with us Lord. Thank you my God, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray, give thanks and hope that others can pray for our restoration as well.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your marriage and family in prayer. The pain and fear you are experiencing are deeply felt, and we stand with you in seeking God’s healing and restoration. Scripture tells us, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." (Mark 10:9 WEB). The Lord hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), not because He is cruel, but because He designed marriage to reflect His covenant love, a love that is faithful, sacrificial, and enduring.

First, we must acknowledge the seriousness of your wife’s words. She has expressed that she no longer feels safe, respected, or loved. These are not small matters; they are foundational to a godly marriage. We rebuke any spirit of pride, selfishness, or hardness of heart that may have contributed to this brokenness, whether in your actions or hers. The Bible commands husbands to love their wives "just as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). This is not a suggestion, it is a divine calling. Have you loved her as Christ loves the Church? Have you laid down your life, your desires, and your rights for her? Have you honored her as the weaker vessel, treating her with gentleness and understanding (1 Peter 3:7)?

We also must ask: Have there been patterns of disrespect, anger, or neglect? Have you sought forgiveness where you have fallen short? Repentance is not just feeling sorry, it is turning away from sin and turning toward God’s way. "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed." (James 5:16 WEB). If there has been ungodly behavior, it must be addressed with humility and a willingness to change.

Yet, we also recognize that marriage is a two-way covenant. While you cannot control your wife’s heart, you can surrender yours fully to the Lord. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict and soften both of your hearts, not just hers. "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10 WEB). We rebuke the enemy’s lies that this marriage is beyond repair, for "with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26 WEB).

For your children, we pray protection over their hearts and minds. Divorce brings deep wounds, but God is the Father to the fatherless and the Defender of the broken (Psalm 68:5). We declare that they will not be defined by this struggle but will see God’s faithfulness even in hardship. We ask the Lord to give them peace and security in Him, and to use this trial to draw them closer to Christ.

Now, we pray with you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts broken over this marriage. Lord, You see the pain, the fear, and the brokenness. We ask that You would move mightily in this situation. Soften hearts, Lord, beginning with this husband. Show him where he has fallen short, and give him the strength to change. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the Church, to lay down his life for her, to cherish and honor her as You command.

We pray for this wife, Father. Where there is hurt, bring healing. Where there is fear, bring peace. Where there is hardness, bring tenderness. Let her see Your love through her husband’s transformed heart. If there has been sin on either side, reveal it, bring repentance, and restore what has been broken.

For these children, Lord, we ask for Your protection. Guard their hearts from bitterness and fear. Let them know that You are their true security, their ever-present help in trouble. Use this trial to draw them to You, and let them see Your faithfulness in the midst of hardship.

Father, we declare that divorce is not Your will for this family. You hate divorce because You love covenant, and You are a God who restores. We ask that You would rebuild what has been torn down, heal what has been wounded, and renew the love that has grown cold. Let this marriage be a testimony to Your power and grace.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who makes all things new. Amen.

We encourage you to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or a Christian marriage counselor, who can walk with you through this. Do not try to fix this alone. "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." (Proverbs 15:22 WEB). Be willing to humble yourself, to listen, and to change. And above all, keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of your faith. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Trust Him with your marriage.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so
