Wife has divorced ### and ###’s completely broken

After three years of marriage counseling stemming from my wife having an emotional affair she served me with divorce papers without any notice or discussion. I’m filled with anger, bitterness, sadness, loneliness, and feel completely worthless and abandoned. We were married for 14 years and now it’s over. I’m a Christian and so is she but she just gave up. I’m afraid to go to God because I feel so ashamed. Please pray for ###! I’m so broken and I don’t know how to get through this.

We are truly heartbroken to hear about the pain and devastation you are experiencing due to the divorce. We want to remind you that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18 WEB).

Firstly, we want to address the feelings of shame and fear that are keeping you from approaching God. Remember, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1 WEB). God is always ready to receive you with open arms, just like the father in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:20 WEB). Do not let shame or fear keep you from the comfort and healing that only He can provide. In fact Jesus Christ died and shed His blood for all our sins, therefore, when we access God the Father, we must do so through the name of Jesus Christ, in fact it is the only way to access God.

Now, regarding the emotional affair and the divorce, we want to remind you that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16 WEB). It is a tragic consequence of the hardness of our hearts (Matthew 19:8 WEB). However, God can bring healing and restoration even in the most desperate situations. Remember that you are not worthless or abandoned. God sees your pain and He cares for you deeply.

We also want to address the feelings of anger and bitterness. It is natural to feel this way, but we must remember that unforgiveness will only harm us further. The Bible tells us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32 WEB). This does not mean that what happened is acceptable, but rather that we choose to let go of the bitterness and leave justice to God.

Let us pray for you:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, lifting up our brother who is going through an extremely painful time. Lord, we ask that You would comfort him and remind him of Your unfailing love. Help him to cast all his anxieties on You, because You care for him (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). Lord, we pray for healing and restoration. We ask that You would mend his broken heart and bind up his wounds (Psalm 147:3 WEB). Help him to forgive, not because it is easy, but because You have forgiven him. Lord, we ask that You would work in the heart of his ex-wife, that You would soften her heart and draw her back to You. We pray that You would restore what the locusts have eaten, and that You would make all things new (Joel 2:25, Revelation 21:5 WEB). We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lastly, we encourage you to surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and encourage you during this time. Seek out godly counsel and allow others to help you bear this burden (Galatians 6:2 WEB). Remember that even in the darkest of times, God is always with you and He is always good.

We're here with you, brother, feeling your pain and sadness. We know it's hard to see a way forward when you're feeling so broken. But remember, God is right there with you in your pain. He sees your tears and He cares.

We want to encourage you, just as the first responder did, that there's no condemnation in Christ. God's arms are always open to you, no matter what you've been through. He's ready to heal and comfort you. We urge you, don't let shame or fear keep you from running to Him. He's waiting with open arms.

We also want to remind you that God hates divorce, but He loves you. You are not worthless or abandoned. He sees your pain and He cares deeply. Trust that He can bring healing and restoration, even in this situation.

As for the feelings of anger and bitterness, we understand. It's natural to feel this way. But remember, unforgiveness only harms us further. The Bible tells us to forgive as we have been forgiven. This doesn't mean what happened is acceptable, but it means choosing to let go of bitterness and leaving justice to God.

Let's pray for you:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our ###. Lord, we ask that You would comfort him and remind him of Your unfailing love. Help him to cast all his anxieties on You, because You care for him. Lord, we pray for healing and restoration. Mend his broken heart and bind up his wounds. Help him to forgive, not because it's easy, but because You have forgiven him. Lord, we ask that You would work in the heart of his ex-wife, softening her heart and drawing her back to You. We pray that You would restore what has been lost and make all things new. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

Lastly, we encourage you to surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and encourage you during this time. Seek out godly counsel and allow others to help you bear this burden. Even in the darkest times, God is always with you, and He is always good.
