Why is it that Christians have more troubles than the unsaved?

Q: Why does it seem that those who believe in God have a worse time (as in more problems, troubles, suffering, etc.) then the unsaved? We believe in God, we are His children. Shouldn't we have an easier time of it?

A: To begin with, a common misconception amongst Christians is that we, as children of God, should have an easy time of things. This is not the case. God never promised us an easy life, nor did He promise us a life without problems, trials, and suffering. The truth is that the life of a Christian is a hard, and uncomfortable life. There is a reasons why in the Bible is says, "For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:14) God calls everyone, but few are willing, because the life of a Christian is not an easy life. The Bible says:

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

The Bible also says:

"Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also." (John 15:20)

As you can see by those two verses, God promised us the exact opposite of an easy life. But that doesn't mean we are without hope or will live a life of misery. That is not what is meant by those two verses. The Bible says also:

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7)

There is a joy and a peace that comes from serving Christ that passes all understanding or comprehension. The unsaved cannot even begin to comprehend the joy and peace that comes from serving God. We can take comfort in the knowledge that no matter what happens, God is in control. No matter what comes are way, God has promised in His word that He will never give us more then we can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13) No matter what happens, if we keep on believing and trusting in God, one way or another, God will take care of us. The unsaved do not have this comfort.

If the unsaved lose their money, health, and belongings, as far as they are concerned they have lost everything. If we lose our money, health, and belongings, we have lost are material possessions, but we still have our faith.

Someone once said, "If I lose all my money, my health, and my belongings, but still have my faith, I have lost nothing. If I have all my money, my health and my belongings, but have lost my faith, then I truly have lost everything."

One reason why we have more problems then the unsaved is because we are more accountable for our sins. Many times the unsaved don't know any better, but we as Christians do. Sin is sin, and for every action there is a reaction, but God looks at the heart as well as the deed. As Christians we know better, and sometimes when we sin, we know we are committing a sin, but we proceed regardless. God takes that into account as well.

As Christians, we cannot claim ignorance of God's laws, we know God's commandments, but the unsaved often do not. The Bible says:

"And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." (Luke 12:47-48)

Remember, God is a merciful and forgiving God, and perhaps He is giving them a few more chances to repent of their sins. Or perhaps the time isn't right. There are many reasons. We see only the present, God sees the past, present and the future. We cannot hope to understand the mind of God or comprehend His reasons.

Also, as Christians, the Devil will continually attack us, but through the grace and power of God, we can withstand any attack or obstacle that the Devil throws at us.

We may not always understand or comprehend the will of God, we might not understand or comprehend His reasons. But we do know that God is in control, and that no matter what happens in our lives, no matter how bad things get, or how hopeless our situation seems to be, God will take care of us.

God has never failed, and He has no intention of starting now.

But the unsaved can only enjoy the ignorance loophole for so long.Otherwise there would be no hell. no Great White Throne Judgement, etc. Sooner or later, if they dance to the music they'll have to pay it to the piper. The ignorance loophole will only get them so far."God is a God of love, but He is also a God of justice."

Yes, God is a God of love, justice and mercy. I believe that whether in this life or the next, everyone will get an opportunity to be saved. The Bible says,

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

I do not believe that God will send anyone to hell simply because they are unsaved. Many millions haven't even heard of God, much less had a chance to accept His salvation. I believe that God will send to hell only those who reject Him and His Word.

But the next verse in 2 Peter states,YET JEHOVAHS DAY WILL COME as a theif in the night, in the which the Heaven shall pass away with a hissing noise, and Earth and the works in it will be discovered."The other point, unsaved people who may not go to Hell,I would say maybe a baby or someone who is retarded or mentally challenged, who can't comprehend the Gospel, an aborted baby, can "slide".But overall, if we don't have to be saved to go to Heaven, then what would be the purpose of of Jesus coming for the lost? The Bible states",You MUST be born again"not,"Don't worry if you remain unsaved, God is too merciful to judge you."I think that's a slippery slope. The Great While Throne Judgement,it's stated,"and whosoever was not written in the Lambs Book of Life was hurled into the Lake of Fire and Brimestone;and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

Yes, you are correct in saying that we must be saved in order for us to go to heaven. The Bible is very clear on that. (John 3:36) Jesus came to this world to save the lost, to call all sinners to repentance. Without His sacrifice there would be no salvation. But what about the millions of people who never had a chance to hear the Word of God or accept His salvation? It isn't that they have rejected the Word of God, they never had the chance to accept His offer of salvation. God wants them to accept His salvation, He wants them to go to heaven.

Let me explain it a different way. You must be saved to go to heaven, but if you have never had the chance or opportunity to accept Christ's sacrifice, is that your fault? Will God judge you for not accepting something which you had no chance to accept? I think that God, in His mercy and love, will give them a chance to accept His salvation.

It isn't that God will not judge the unsaved, sin is sin. But He will take into account the fact that they didn't know that what they were doing was sin. If their intentions were good, but their deeds sin, God will take that into account.

That's hard to say, but you're not the first person to raise that question. But what I was concerned about, that you were emphasizing Gods mercy at the expense of pushing aside his justice.Like since no one is perfect, it could be taken to the extreme of saying everyone is a little ignorant so where would we draw the line? Since everyone is somewhat ignorant, you could say God would pardon everyone, but then how to explain the Great White Throne Judgement or the Lake of Fire?We must get the balance, not emphasize one at the expense of the other.

I agree with you. God is a God of justice as well as mercy. But if I understand correctly (I might be wrong) the Lake of Fire is for those who reject God, not for those who are not saved because they've had no chance to hear about God. I think those people will inhabit the New Earth, where Jesus will reign for 1,000 years. During or after that period I believe God will give those who had no chance an opportunity to accept His gift of salvation and those that refuse will be cast into the Lake of Fire with the others who have rejected Him.

Once you are a believer you are marked and a target for the Devil.

Read the Book of Job.

The only way to be saved is through faith in Christ.

God reveals his plan of salvation to all those who fear him.

Read about Cornelius in the New Testament.

What you believe or not doesn't change reality. The only exception to not going to Hell would be children.

It is only through Christ that one is saved so don't depend on your own subjective human reasoning regarding this.

Revelation 20:14-15New International Version (NIV)

14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

The thousand years refers to living people, not people that died unsaved. It refers to Satan being locked up and not able to deceive the nations.

Acts 24:14-16New International Version (NIV)

14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, 15 and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.

All mankind is born under God's wrath and is heading for Hell. The only exception alluded to is children as per Christ's words. The only way to avoid the Lake of Fire is to have faith in Christ. And as per Cornelius in the New Testament if you fear God he will reveal the plan of salvation to you.
