Why did God let my situation blow up so huge?

We hear the heaviness in your cry and we join with you in bringing this overwhelming situation before the throne of grace in Jesus' name. We understand how it feels when everything seems to blow up beyond your control and your own strength is gone, and we want you to know that God has not abandoned you in this storm.
We do not always understand why God allows a situation to grow so large and so painful, but Scripture shows us that He is not distant or uncaring. He sees your weakness and He draws near to those who are overwhelmed. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. Your weakness is not a failure in His eyes, it is the very place where His strength is revealed. He said to us, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9.
God never promised that this life would be without trouble. Jesus said, In the world you have trouble, but cheer up. I have overcome the world. John 16:33. Sometimes He allows what feels like an explosion in our lives to show us that we cannot carry it alone, to refine our faith like gold, and to draw us into deeper dependence on Him. That the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:7. And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. Even when we cannot see the good now, He is working with purpose and love.

There are seasons when the soul is overwhelmed and made to feel its own weakness, and it seems your lot is cast in such a season now. This is no strange place for a child of God to be brought into, for the Lord often lets our situation grow large and heavy that we may learn where our true strength lies.
You ask why God has let it blow up so huge. Scripture gives us light here. We are able in sober earnest to speak with the afflicted and bid them count it all joy when they fall into divers trials, because those trials work out for them lasting good. Our chief end is to glorify God, and if our trials enable us more fully to answer the end of our being it is well that they should happen unto us. Afflictions find out our weak points, and this makes us attend to them. Being tried, we discover our failures, and then going to God about those failures we are helped to be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Moreover our trials, when blessed of God to make us patient, ripen us. What kind of patience does He work? First a patience that accepts the trials as from God without a murmur, and then a settled quietness in resting in the finished work of Jesus.
David says, What time I am afraid, I will trust in You. There is disease and faith is the remedy. But Isaiah goes further and trusts in God first, and then he is not afraid at all. Prevention is better than cure. May you be brought into such a blessed state of confidence in the love of God, in the love of Christ's heart, in the power of Christ's arm, in the prevalence of Christ's plea, that at all times you may trust in Him and in nothing whatever be afraid. He who trusts in the Lord, happy is he. We are to trust God, acting in all prudence and in all uprightness, and to rely simply and entirely upon Him. Though suffering and sorrow and trial are near, our God is our Refuge and whom can we fear? He raises the fallen, He cheers the faint, the weak and oppressed He will hear their complaint. The way may be weary and thorny the road, but how can we falter? Our help is in God.
Do not despise your own weakness. The voice of God is heard in our heart saying, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people. God has dealt graciously with you in giving you these good desires after Him. Your groaning is before Him, as the Psalm says, and those groaning desires after God are very good. They may not be great nor strong, but they are gracious. There is water in a drop as well as in the sea. There is life in a gnat as well as in an elephant. If you have no hope anywhere else and yet have a hope in God, that thought has the seeds of hope and the beginning of comfort within it.
Do not try to go to God by any other way than through the golden gate of the great sacrifice of your redeeming Lord. We dare not trust in our own morality or good intentions, for God will not take part payment and holiness is not mere outward respectability. If the motive is sinister and the desires unclean, our works taste of the fountain from whence they came. Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. By Him also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. We have present peace, but also future perfection, for there remains a rest for the people of God.
So I would counsel you to sit where you are and joy in God. Suppose you have nothing in the house but God? Suppose there is nothing for you to rely upon but God, nothing that you can call your own but God? Still you may rejoice that there is a God and delight in Him as your Father, rejoicing in every attribute of Him as He is revealed in Scripture. God must be His own revealer, and He reveals Himself in Christ, God manifest in human flesh. Cry to Him in prayer that you may keep your garment unspotted, and He will help you to do so. Fall back upon His eternal purposes in Christ Jesus and upon His Word, for the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.
May the Lord teach you to trust Him not only when you are afraid, but before fear comes, to love Him who thus gives Himself to be trusted by you, and to find in Him all you need. We have been in strange places and in very peculiar conditions in the past, but we never were thrown where we could not find in God all we needed. May He give you quietness in Christ and raise you up to rejoice in hope, even while the trial remains.
