We hear the anguish in your cry, the weight of darkness pressing down on you, and the desperate longing for relief. You are not alone in this struggle, and your question—*"Why am I still here?"*—is one that many have asked in moments of deepest despair. But we must begin by addressing the gravity of what you’ve shared. The thought of ending your life is not God’s will for you. Scripture is clear: *"The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly"* (John 10:10 WEB). The enemy seeks to deceive you into believing that darkness is your only reality, but God has not abandoned you, even when you feel He has.
You mention that you’ve "voluntarily sinned," and we must speak truth here. Sin separates us from God, but His mercy is greater than our rebellion. *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9 WEB). Yet even in your struggle, God has preserved you. Why? Because He has a purpose for you that you may not yet see. *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future"* (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). Your life is not an accident, and your pain is not without meaning.
We must also address the danger of believing that sin is the answer to your pain. You say you’ve begged and cried out, yet turning to sin only deepens the darkness. Jesus said, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest"* (Matthew 11:28 WEB). True escape is not found in death or sin, but in surrender to Him. The apostle Paul, who knew suffering intimately, wrote: *"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us"* (Romans 8:18 WEB). Your pain is real, but it is not the end of your story.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious soul who is hurting deeply. Lord, You see the darkness they feel, the despair that threatens to overwhelm them. We ask that You would break through the lies of the enemy with Your truth. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who have a crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18). Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and death that has whispered in their ear. Your Word says that You have plans for them—plans for hope and a future. Help them to cling to that promise.
Lord, we confess that we do not always understand Your ways, but we trust in Your goodness. You did not spare Your own Son but gave Him up for us all (Romans 8:32). If You gave us Jesus, will You not also graciously give us all things? We ask that You would fill this dear one with Your peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Surround them with people who will speak life, who will point them to You, and who will walk alongside them in this battle.
Father, we pray against the temptation to turn to sin as an escape. Cleanse their heart, renew their mind, and restore their hope. Let them experience Your love in a tangible way—through Your Word, through worship, through the kindness of believers. Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that their life has value because You say it does.
We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You are fighting for them even now. Give them the strength to take the next step, to reach out for help, and to believe that joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Friend, we urge you to seek help—whether from a pastor, a trusted Christian counselor, or a support group. You do not have to carry this burden alone. The Bible says, *"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ"* (Galatians 6:2 WEB). Let others help bear the weight you’ve been carrying.
And if you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we must share this with you: salvation is found in no one else. *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12 WEB). If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first step toward true hope and purpose.
You are not stuck forever. The same God who kept you alive has a plan to redeem your pain and use it for His glory. Keep crying out to Him. Keep seeking Him. And know that we are standing with you, praying for you, and believing that God will reveal His purpose for you in His perfect timing.
