Who Stands in Your Temple?

You are a temple and you have a High-Priest.

The old Covenant
Jeremiah 7:9-11
9. [/B]Do you really think you can steal, murder, commit adultery, lie, and burn incense to Baal and all those other new gods of yours,
10. and then come here and stand before me in my Temple and chant, “We are safe!”—only to go right back to all those evils again?
11. Don’t you yourselves admit that this Temple, which bears my name, has become a den of thieves? Surely I see all the evil going on there. I, the LORD, have spoken!

The new Covenant
1 Corinthians 3:16
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

COMMENT
The old temple is of course a building made of stones and that God intended to dwell inside the central room only. Once a year, an earthly high-priest visits this central room, the Most Holy place to make atonement for men's sin. The temple and its ground was considered sacred and strict laws governed the people in the courtyards. It was not meant for commerce, false idols, or any other abominations. The old temple was a shadow for the new.

The New temple refers to people themselves while their central room is the heart or spirit governed by a High Priest. Spiritual laws govern our temples.

In a way we do have a choice in our high-priest selection. Our high-priest is determined by whether or not your heart is righteous or if it's corrupt by selfishness.

Metaphorically speaking, a selfish heart brings forth a corrupt high-priest that is not permitted access to the Most Holy Place. Just like a corrupt priesthood of old that did not have a Godly relationship. Their temple were desolate and often lied in ruins. This corrupt priest gives you access to earthly indulgences, just like the old priesthood did in the above verse. You have no access to God. You feed your selfishness and your sins. This high-priest represents all that opposes God.

A selfless heart in the other hand, invites Jesus as your High-priest who has unlimited access to the Heavenly Father. Your heart is considered pure and its offerings are sweet to the Lord. By God's grace our sins are atoned.

So who is your High-priest? Who do you serve? Have you brought uncleaned items into your temple? Has God made a home in your heart?
Let Jesus help you with your self-audit. Let Him cleanse your temple and set you free of any abominations. We all fall short but through the grace of God, Jesus paid for our sins in full!
Boldly declare that Jesus is your High-Priest.
