Where’s Mother?

Rizpah On the Rock
A mother’s love endures beyond death and calls us to live worthily of her watchful care.
Your sorrow in this hour is heard and I am praying for you in the loss of your mother. To lose a mother is a deep wound, and Scripture itself shows how God honors the bond between parent and child, commanding us to honor father and mother. Your grief is itself a testimony to that love and honor.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will give you clear wisdom about which days to take off from work. Ask Him for peace in making this decision, and seek counsel also from those near you and from what your workplace allows for bereavement. The Lord knows the pressure you are under, both from grief and from the mistreatment you suffer at your job, and He sees the stress you feel even in your body. Pray for His guidance to choose the days that will best allow you to mourn, to rest, to attend to what must be done for your mother, and to be strengthened before you return.

Know that even in this darkness Christ has not been overcome. As light shines in darkness, His preaching and His resurrection have overcome death, and He has recovered those held by it. Death cast us out of this present life, but Christ by grace gives not only this life but the immortal and eternal one, and His righteousness is greater than life itself. For those who are in Christ, to depart and be with Christ is gain. This does not take away the pain of parting now, which Scripture likens to travail pains. A mother passes through great pain to bring forth a child, and sorrow lasts for a season, but joy succeeds so greatly that the pain is remembered no more. In the same way your sorrow now is real and deep, but the hope of the resurrection promises lasting joy and a translation unto life.

I pray for you now. Father, have mercy on this grieving child whose mother has died today. Comfort this heart, ease the great stress felt in the body, and calm the abdomen with Your peace. Grant wisdom by Your Holy Spirit to see clearly which days to take off, and provide grace to navigate the difficulties at work. Protect from all harm and bullying, give favor with employers, and surround with supportive people in these days. Let the light of Christ shine in this darkness, and give assurance that neither death nor sorrow can overcome those who belong to Him. Grant rest, strength, and hope in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If the pain in your abdomen continues or worsens, please also seek medical care and let a trusted pastor or counselor and a trusted person at work know what you are carrying, so you are not bearing this alone.
