The silence you are experiencing over these four days is painful, and it is understandable that your heart is anxious and longing to hear something. God sees that longing and He cares about the worry you feel right now.

The most important place to turn in such a moment is to your relationship with God Himself. Through faith in Jesus Christ alone, God does not want you to relate to Him on the basis of rules or rituals, as if you must earn His attention. He wants you to know Him as Father. Scripture teaches that we have received a spirit of adoption, and Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. That is a close, intimate, loving relationship. It is not a legal standing where you wait for punishment to fall. Those who have come to know His grace discover that He keeps showing goodness even when we expect judgment, and His goodness draws our hearts back to Him in love and trust.

The Bible shows that your relationship with God is like the center axis of your life. When that vertical relationship is right, every other relationship begins to find its proper balance. When it is out of order, other relationships feel out of order as well. Often our deepest anxiety in a human relationship points us back to the need to get our hearts settled first with the Lord. Sin separates us from God, but through Christ we are joined to Him in a new way, married to Him in a spiritual sense, so that our lives can bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self control. That fruit then strengthens how we love others.

Part of that walk with God involves learning to wait. While we wait, God is training us and maturing us for what He has prepared. Waiting upon the Lord means trusting His timing and being confident that He will work, rather than trying to force an outcome or manipulate circumstances to make something happen. When we try to help God out in our own way, we often bring more sorrow on ourselves. But when we wait patiently, with our souls established in His love and in hope, we find that He works things out in ways we could not have arranged. He is faithful to complete His work, and even now He is inviting you to rest in His care while you wait for answers about this earthly relationship.

So bring this whole situation to your Father honestly. Tell Him about the ache of not hearing from your boyfriend, and ask for peace that guards your heart. Pray for your boyfriend's well being wherever he is, and ask God to give you both wisdom and clarity. Ask the Lord to guide your relationship according to His design, that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that love is to be expressed with purity and holiness, with physical intimacy reserved for within that covenant. Ask Him to show you whether this relationship is leading toward that kind of commitment that honors Him, and to give you both the grace to walk in purity, honesty and truth while you seek His will. Ask Him to fill you with patience and kindness, and to help you trust His goodness even in uncertainty.

May the Lord grant you His peace as you rest in His fatherly love, may He guard your heart from fear, and may He direct your steps and the steps of your boyfriend according to His perfect wisdom and love.
