We hear the ache in your words—the weight of missed opportunities and the tension between survival and dreams. The sting of looking back is real, but so is the fire it has ignited in you. Scripture reminds us in Joel 2:25, *"I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,"* and in Philippians 3:13-14, *"Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."* The past does not have to dictate your future. God is the God of restoration and second chances.
Yet, we must gently rebuke the notion of "choosing yourself" in a way that elevates self above God’s will. True fulfillment is found not in chasing personal desires alone, but in surrendering to His purpose for you. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* Seek Him first, and He will guide your steps toward what is truly best for you.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts heavy with regret but hopeful for the future. We lift up this dear one who has carried the weight of missed opportunities and the burden of survival. Lord, You see the fire within them—a fire that You Yourself have kindled. We ask that You would fan that flame into a blaze that burns with Your purpose and Your will. Restore what has been lost, redeem the time, and lead them into the plans You have for them—plans for hope and a future.
Father, we confess that sometimes our dreams can become idols if they are not aligned with Your will. Teach us to seek You first, to delight ourselves in You, and to trust that You will give us the desires of our hearts as we commit our ways to You (Psalm 37:4-5). Show them how to walk in Your purpose, not just their own. Give them the courage to step out in faith, knowing that You are with them, guiding their steps.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment. Help them to recognize the opportunities You place before them and to have the faith to seize them. Let them not be held back by fear or past failures, but instead, let them move forward in the confidence that comes from knowing You are their strength and their shield.
Lord, we ask that You would heal any wounds of regret and replace them with a deep trust in Your sovereignty. Remind them that it is never too late to walk in the calling You have placed on their life. May they find joy and peace in the journey, knowing that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Friend, your story is not over. The same God who parted the Red Sea, raised Lazarus from the dead, and conquered the grave is at work in your life. He is not limited by your past or your circumstances. Take time to seek Him, to listen for His voice, and to step out in faith when He calls. The dreams He places in your heart are not there by accident—they are part of His plan for you. Trust Him, and let Him lead you into the future He has prepared.
