Beloved of All
We speak of the name found in the Bible, but what of the Paradise—###, ###, ###—and the family background and lineage leading to healing and eternity? Jesus speaks, and through understanding Him, we receive comfort. Where did the angels take souls after death? To the bosom of Abraham—like Lazarus, for instance? Shouting from ###, ###, and ###.

We join together with you in seeking the Lord on this deep question about eternity, Paradise, and where souls go after death, and we thank you for speaking the precious name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone that we receive comfort and understanding.

You ask about Paradise and the bosom of Abraham, like Lazarus, and where the angels carry souls. Scripture gives us a beautiful picture. Jesus Himself taught us in Luke 16:22 that the beggar Lazarus died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. Before the cross, this Paradise or Abraham's bosom was the place of comfort for the righteous dead, separated from the place of torment, as Jesus described. It was a place of waiting in peace. Yet when Jesus was on the cross, He promised the repentant thief beside Him, Today you will be with me in Paradise, Luke 23:43. After His death and resurrection, the way was fully opened.

Now, for those who are in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, as we read in 2 Corinthians 5:8. Paul also desired to depart and be with Christ, which is far better, Philippians 1:23. Paradise is now where Christ is, in the presence of God. The angels still are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation, Hebrews 1:14, and we can take comfort that the Lord does not abandon His own in death, but gathers them to Himself. We also hold to the promise that God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, Revelation 21:4.

You also ask about family background and lineage leading to healing and eternity. This points us directly to Jesus. His lineage is not by accident but by promise. The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham, Matthew 1:1, shows He is the fulfillment of the covenant made to Abraham that in you all the families of the earth will be blessed, Genesis 12:3, and the fulfillment of the throne of David forever. Through that holy lineage He came as man to bring healing and eternity to us. But He was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed, Isaiah 53:5. It is not our family background that saves us, but being born again into His family through faith. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12.

We hear your shouting unto the Lord from where you are, and we know He hears. He is the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, and as we grow in understanding Him through His Word, we do receive that comfort and the assurance of eternity.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace. We thank You for revealing Paradise to us through Your Son and for the comfort that those who die in Christ are carried into Your presence. We ask that You give our dear friend deeper understanding of Your Word, peace about eternity, and assurance that to be with Christ is far better. Heal any wounds of heart and body according to Your mercy, and draw them and their family ever closer into the lineage of faith as children of Abraham through faith in Jesus. Help them to continue to shout to You in prayer and to rest in the finished work of the cross, knowing that You have prepared an eternal home for all who trust in Jesus. We ask this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus, amen.

We hear your hunger to understand more of who Jesus is and where He leads us, not just His name but His family line, His promise of Paradise, and the comfort He gives.

That picture you mentioned of Lazarus being carried to Abraham's bosom was Jesus' way of describing nearness and rest with God after death. Before the cross, the faithful were gathered in that place of comfort and waiting. What changed is that Jesus Himself opened the way, so that to be with Him is to be at home with the Father. His lineage through Abraham and David shows how God was working through generations to bring that healing and eternity you asked about, all pointing to Him.

It makes sense those details feel tangled and urgent. You don't have to sort it all at once to receive His comfort. A simple next step that helps many is to read slowly through one Gospel, like John or Luke, just listening for how Jesus speaks about Himself and about being with Him, and to bring your questions to a trusted pastor who can walk through them with you face to face.

We are praying for you and we value your thoughtful seeking.

Father, thank You for drawing this heart to seek Jesus more deeply. Give clarity where there is confusion, peace where there is shouting inside, and a steady sense of being held by You. Lead into deeper understanding of Your Son and the hope He gives for eternity. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your inquiry concerning Paradise and the bosom of Abraham touches upon that which the Word of God has revealed for our comfort, and it is to that Word we must turn.

There is a Paradise of which Scripture speaks, and there are two. The earthly Paradise with all its perfections was still of the earth, earthy. But the second Paradise is, like the Lord from Heaven, heavenly and Divine. Everything in the Divine Paradise is fuller and more abundant. The gold which in Eden lay in the soil is used in the heavenly Paradise to pave the streets. There the tree of life stands, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. This is our comfort, that there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves, the little things as it were about Christ, are full of healing virtue. The least thing about Christ is healing. If you feel your sickness this morning, if you are sick at heart, you may look up to this Tree and know that here is your cure, and you may dare to partake of it, for He invites you.

You ask where the angels bear the souls of the departed. Our Lord Himself has told us. Lazarus died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. That bosom was the place of rest and blessedness for those who died in faith before Christ had opened the way more fully. It was Paradise, the garden of the Lord where the faithful were gathered in comfort. Now, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that Paradise is with Him. Remember His word to the dying thief, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise. To be carried by angels is to be borne as lambs in His bosom, to be at home with the Lord. The bright winged seraph flaps his wing to earth to comfort some desponding heart, and to bear the ransomed soul to glory.

This is the comfort proclaimed by the prophet, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. When God said, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, He spake to all His people to comfort one another. And this comfort comes from a peculiar source. The believer says, This is my comfort in my affliction, for thy Word hath quickened me. It is not the letter alone, but the Spirit who quickens us and so comforts us. The external comfort of the Christian is the Word of God, and the internal part of his consolation is that the Word has quickened him. God does not always give comfort by a distinct act alone, but He quickens us and so we obtain comfort. Your family background and lineage, your history, your sorrows, all are met not in any earthly descent but in being grafted into Christ, in whom alone is salvation and healing and eternity.

Therefore, if you would have comfort concerning those who have gone before and concerning your own soul, pour out your sorrows into the bosom of your God. He helped in the trying hour, He helps to bear the heavy load. Look to Jesus, the Sun of Righteousness who has risen with healing in His wings. When He healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee. Pardon and healing are one in Him. Seek Him, trust Him alone for salvation, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved, and you shall find that His Word quickened within you is present comfort, and His Paradise is your sure eternal home.

May the Lord comfort your heart and establish you in every good word and work, and may His Spirit teach you to say of His priceless Word, This is my comfort in my affliction.
