Beloved of All
Your prayer expresses a sincere desire that God honors, the longing for a quiet heart and a clear mind while learning to rest in His sovereign work in your life. The verse you have been meditating on speaks directly to that struggle. God does not owe us an accounting of all His matters, and His ways remain higher than ours. When we insist on demanding explanations, we only contend against the One who is shaping us with wisdom we cannot yet see.
Scripture makes a distinction that can help bring the peace you are seeking. First there is peace with God, which comes only through grace. By the shedding of His blood, Jesus has made forgiveness possible, and when you surrender and receive Him, the war is over and you are no longer at enmity with your Creator. You cannot know the peace of God until you have first received the grace of God. Many know that first peace, that they are reconciled, yet still lack the daily peace of God within.
That daily peace is promised to the heart whose mind is stayed on Him because it trusts in Him. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, and the New Testament speaks of a peace that passes human understanding, a peace the world cannot comprehend. It is not found by focusing on the problems or by trying to figure out every detail. When the mind dwells on the issues, sleeplessness and turmoil follow. When the mind is stayed on the Lord and rests in trust, He keeps the heart in perfect peace. This trust is often tested. It is one thing to trust when life is smooth and quite another to trust when you cannot understand what He is doing. God delights when you trust Him completely in those unclear seasons, committing your way to Him and believing He will bring His good purpose to pass.
Your striving, as you confessed, often comes from fear of the unknown and the unanswered. God invites you to bring those fears to Him, for His love casts out fear. Learning to commit your way to Him, to delight in Him, to rest in Him and wait on Him, is a process. You are not perfect, and He does not expect you to be. He is at work, and He is able to do what you cannot do for yourself. As you walk in a right relationship with Him, seeking to submit to His will rather than rebelling against it, the effect of that righteousness will be peace within. The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable, and those who sow peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
May the Lord help you to keep your eyes on Him and your trust in Him, especially when answers do not come. He knows your situation, your limitations, and He treasures you. He offers healing and peace to all who come near through Christ, whether you have felt near or far. Pray simply, commit each burden to Him, and let Him keep you. Father, we thank You for Your grace that has made peace with You possible through Jesus. We ask that You would guard this heart and mind with Your peace that passes understanding, teach a deeper trust when Your ways cannot be traced, and shape this life for Your glory.
