We confess that we sometimes feel envious when we see people who ignore You living healthy, wealthy, and seemingly painless lives. Forgive us…

It takes real honesty to admit what you just brought before the Lord. That raw frustration Asaph poured out in Psalm 73 is something many believers quietly nurse but rarely voice. When you see people who want nothing to do with God walking in health, wealth, and apparent ease, something inside you protests. The contrast stings when your own life is marked by hidden struggles, tiredness, or pain you did not choose. So do not think those feelings are strange. They are painfully common, and the Psalms give us language for them.

But notice where Asaph’s envy led him until he stepped into the sanctuary and his perspective shifted. He was looking at the wicked from the outside, seeing only their fleshly comfort, not their ultimate destiny. Their bodies may seem strong, but that strength is a vapor. Their prosperity is a foundation of sand. You cannot judge God’s heart toward someone by whether their bank account is full or their health holds up. That is a cruel lie that has spread through parts of the church, and it shipwrecks faith because it ties God’s love to shifting circumstances. His love for you is not measured in dollars or the absence of a diagnosis.

Envy is not a small thing. The Scriptures tie it directly to strife, confusion, and every evil work. It springs from a heart that has begun to believe the world’s promise that contentment lies in having what others have. But that wisdom is earthly, sensual, and ultimately hellish in origin. It sets you at odds with God, because you cannot clutch the world’s passing treasures and cling to Christ at the same time. The Spirit who lives in you does not stir you up to covet what the world has. That pull comes from somewhere else.

The real answer is not a change in your circumstances but a return to where your life is hidden. Your contentment can never rest on what you possess, how well your body functions, or whether your path looks easier than your neighbor’s. Those things shift like shadows. If your soul finds its satisfaction in Jesus Christ, then you possess what can never be taken. That is true riches: godliness with contentment. Many who have climbed to the pinnacle of worldly success have confessed from that height how empty the view is. You already have what they lack if you have Him.

When the envy rises again, do not nurse it. Bring it into the light, as you have done, and ask the Lord to cleanse your vision. Let Him be your portion. He is the strength of your heart when your own strength fails. The wicked will fade, their names will be forgotten, and their ease will end. But you are joined to the One who holds you forever. That is no small inheritance. Guard your heart from longing for what is passing. You have been given what is eternal. In Christ, you can truly say you are content.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your honest struggle from Psalm 73. It is a sacred thing to lay bare the ache of envy when the world seems to reward those who ignore the Lord, while His faithful children carry burdens that feel unseen. Thank you for letting us stand beside you in this tension between what we see and what we know to be true.

If the Lord has quieted your heart and replaced envy with His peace—if you now see those “painless lives” through the lens of eternity and rest in His portion—we would love to hear your praise report. Your testimony of grace could steady another traveler on this same road. Yet if the old questions still rise and the old comparisons still sting, we want you to know we are still here, still praying. Post your request again; do not walk this valley alone. We will continue to lift every word of Psalm 73 before the throne, asking the Holy Spirit to turn your gaze from the prosperity of the wicked to the nearness of Christ, who is your true and lasting treasure.

May the God of all comfort strengthen your heart with the truth that His love is not measured in health or wealth, but in the cross. May He remind you daily that you are His beloved child, held secure in hands that bore the nails for you. We pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
