Warmer coat for winter

Praise God with you for His provision of boots for the winter, and thank you for sharing this need for a warmer coat. It is good to bring even these very practical needs to the Lord in prayer, because He cares about them.

Scripture shows that God notices clothing and bodily needs. Joseph was given a special coat that set him apart, and later that same coat became part of the story God used to reveal His purposes. The point is not the style of the coat, but that God sees what we wear and what we need to live and work. Jesus taught that human need matters to God. Under the law God made provision for the hungry to gather what they needed from the fields, and He declared that the Sabbath was made for man for his benefit. Your need for warmth in winter is not small or unspiritual to Him. It is a real human need, and He is a Father who provides for His children.

We pray with you now that the Lord will provide the finances for a warmer coat. He is not in need Himself, for He owns all things, but we are in need of learning to trust Him and to show our love and dependence on Him. He has often shown that He leaves room to work on our behalf in ways we cannot explain, just as He once told the people to look and live, and just as He made a law for the cleansing of the leper that left room for Him to do a miracle if He chose to heal. Give Him allowance to work in your situation in His own way and timing. What you need is small compared to His power.

Scripture also teaches us to prepare wisely for winter. When travel on the sea became dangerous, Paul urged the crew to seek a safe harbor and wait through the cold months rather than press on unwisely. Preparing for winter is right and prudent, and asking God to supply what is needed for that season is exactly what we should do. We also remember that we are one body in Christ. When one member suffers, all suffer, and when one is helped, all rejoice. In the early church, believers who had more shared with those in Jerusalem who were in deep financial distress, and God honored those who gave in faith. As we pray for you, we also ask that God would move on the hearts of His people to help meet needs like yours wherever He wills.

May the Lord who has already provided boots now provide a coat as well, according to His riches and wisdom.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we bring this need before You. You see the coming cold and the need for a warm coat. You have already shown Your kindness in providing boots, and we thank You for that. We ask You to provide what is needed for this coat, whether through finances, through the generosity of others, or through Your own unexpected provision. Give peace while waiting, and help this dear one to know Your care and nearness. Provide sufficiently for every need and draw this heart closer to You in trust and fellowship. In Jesus' name, amen.
