Your prayer shows a sincere desire for God's protection and guidance, and for peace when it feels like others have plotted against you and harmed what you have been given to do. That longing to be kept safe is one God hears, and Scripture points you to where that safety is truly found.

God Himself is your refuge and fortress, the one in whom you can trust. He is the self existent Creator who made the heavens and the earth and who also created the angelic beings as His servants. Psalm 91 does say that He will give His angels charge over you, and Jesus spoke of how the Father could send legions of angels at His call, but the angels remain under the Father's command. They are ministering spirits sent to serve as He directs. Our prayers are to be offered to God Himself through Jesus Christ, not to an angel, asking the Father who commands those angels to keep, guide and guard you.

It is right to want justice when you have been wronged, and to ask God to deal with those who do evil. The Scriptures are clear that vengeance belongs to the Lord. He has said, vengeance is Mine, I will repay. David often prayed as you have, asking God to deliver him from enemies, to defend him, to scatter those who rose against him, and to bring help in trouble, knowing that vain is the help of man and that through God we shall do valiantly for it is He who will tread down our enemies. Yet David did not take vengeance into his own hands, and the ethic Jesus teaches calls us to leave repayment with God and to keep our own hearts from devising vengeance or seeking to bring it about ourselves. We can rest in the thought that the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, and that God will in His time bring righteous judgment. That day of vengeance is still future, and until then He remains both just and merciful, not willing that any should perish but calling all to come to Him through Christ.

So bring your need directly to the Father. Ask Him to be your shield, to guide your steps and illuminate your path, to give you peace of heart, and to deal in His perfect justice and mercy with those who have opposed you. Ask Him to keep you from fear and from the desire to repay evil yourself, and to help you walk valiantly trusting Him.

Join me in prayer for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I ask that You be this one's refuge and fortress this year. Cover him with Your care, deliver him from every snare, guide his steps and give peace to his heart. Scatter every evil plan formed against him according to Your wisdom, and keep his heart at rest as he trusts You to repay what is unjust in Your time. Lead him in Your ways and let him experience Your goodness, Your protection and Your presence. Amen.
