Waiting for Offer or Rejection

Praereurath

Disciple of Prayer
I’ve been unemployed since May of this year. My savings are running very low and my mental health has deteriorated so severely that I’ve been prescribed an SNRI for major depressive disorder. Last week I completed a final round interview for the best job opportunity I’ve seen in months (I work in a very small industry). I want this opportunity so desperately. I’ve prayed to the point of tears and written until my hand hurts. I would really appreciate a prayer.

We have read your request with heavy hearts and we are lifting you up together before the throne of grace. We understand the weight you are carrying, being unemployed since May, watching your savings run low, and walking through such deep darkness in your mental health that you have needed medical help for major depressive disorder. The waiting after a final round interview, especially for an opportunity that feels so rare and so important in a small industry, can feel agonizing. We weep with you and we pray with you.

We want to remind you that God sees your tears, your prayers, and the aching of your hand as you have poured out your heart. He is near to you in this brokenness. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Your struggle with depression does not mean you have failed or that God has abandoned you, and seeking medical treatment is not a lack of faith. God in His mercy often provides help through physicians and counselors, while He remains our ultimate healer and comforter.

We also noticed that you spoke of praying but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently share this because we want you to have full assurance and access to the Father. It is only through Jesus that we can come to God and be saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name in all your prayers. It is in His name that we have peace with God and confidence that He hears us.

We know you want this job so desperately, and we understand that longing. We encourage you to bring that desire honestly to God while also surrendering the outcome to His perfect wisdom and love. He knows your financial needs, your skills, and what is best for your future. Matthew 6:31-33 says Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, What will we eat?, What will we drink? or, With what will we be clothed? For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. And Romans 8:28 reminds us We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Whether this door opens or closes, God is still working for your good.

God also invites you to exchange your anxiety for His peace. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. He cares about your employment, your finances, and your mental health more deeply than you can imagine.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear one to You. You know the months of unemployment, the dwindling savings, the sleepless nights, and the heaviness of major depressive disorder. Lord, we ask You to be near and to uphold this one with Your righteous right hand. Grant peace that surpasses all understanding to guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Provide for every financial need according to Your riches in glory, and open the right door for employment in Your perfect timing. If it is Your will, we ask that You grant favor in this final interview and provide this job opportunity, but above all we ask that Your will be done and that You would make Your path clear, whether it is an offer or a rejection, so that there is no confusion. Strengthen faith while waiting, comfort the broken heart, and bring healing to mind and body. Help this one to keep seeking You first, to stay connected to Your Word, to Your people, and to wise counsel, and to know that hope is not lost. We ask all these things in the saving and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and access to You. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to wait on the Lord with prayer and thanksgiving, to stay in His Word daily, and to lean on a local Bible believing church community for support and fellowship during this waiting season. Keep stewarding diligently what God has given, continue to seek work as God leads, and trust that He who has kept you since May will not fail you now. We are standing with you and trusting God with you for His good answer.

We have been thinking of you as you wait for news after that final interview. Being out of work since ### with savings getting low would wear on anyone, and waiting for word on a rare opportunity in a small field makes the days feel even longer. It makes sense that you have prayed to tears and feel worn down.

We are glad you reached out for prayer, and also that you have sought medical care during this hard season. We encourage you to stay closely connected to the doctor or counselor who is caring for you, alongside prayer, and to let one trusted person know how you are doing day by day while you wait. Having someone to check in with can keep the waiting from feeling so isolating, and having a simple daily rhythm for sleep, meals and a walk or other steady activity can help carry you through uncertain days.

We do not know what the decision will be, but we know the Lord sees you in this in between place and hears every prayer you have poured out.

Father, in Jesus name we lift our friend to You. You see the need for provision and for peace while waiting. Give strength for each day, wisdom for next steps, and comfort for mind and heart. Guide those making the hiring decision, and guide our friend toward what is good and right for the future. Keep our friend close to You and to caring support around them. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so. Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your letter has lain upon my heart with great tenderness, and I have carried your burden before the Lord as you have described it. To be out of work since May, to see savings grow low, to feel the mind and spirits sink so deeply that a physician has prescribed help for major depression, and then to wait in suspense after a final interview for a place you greatly desire, this is a heavy weight indeed. That you have prayed till tears have come and written till your hand ached tells me you have not prayed in vain, for the Lord hears the broken and the weary who seek Him.

You speak of waiting for an offer or a rejection, and I would have you see that there is another waiting which must come first. Have you not found, as I have, that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. We are in a great hurry to do something, and that hurrying does more mischief than if we had kept still, resting in the Lord and waiting patiently for Him. To wait only upon God is our wisdom. It is not to sit idle, nor to wait in despair or in hesitation, but to wait in hope, as a servant waits upon his lord, anxious to know what his master wishes him to do, or as a traveler waits upon his guide to show the way. We are to wait upon God for direction in the entire voyage of life, for He is at the helm and His hand must steer our course.

And what a mercy that while you wait, God Himself is a waiting God. He waits that He may be gracious unto you. There is a final success to all His waiting, when His love visits the heart. He is not slow as men count slowness, but He waits for the fit time, the time of love, when His mercy will be most seen and most prized. To knock at Mercy's door without waiting for a reply is like the runaway knocks of idle boys in the street. But faith knocks and then waits and watches, and patience stands by her side, knowing that the windows of heaven, however fast they may seem closed, will open soon, and God's right hand will scatter His liberality upon waiting souls.

Waiting upon the Lord in this way has a sure effect. It renews strength until we mount up with eagles wings. By it we receive mysterious strength through the incoming of the Eternal Spirit into our souls. It makes us grow small and dwarfs the world and all its affairs till we see their real littleness. And it breeds peace within the soul, so that when a man is at rest within, he cares little for trials or foes. I pray that this peace may be yours even while the outward answer is still withheld.

Do not think your heaviness of spirit puts you out of Christ's care. When the brain is heated and the heart is low, waiting will cool the brow and prepare a place for wisdom. Bring your whole case to Him again, not only the desire for this place, but your health, your provision, your future, and leave it there. Continue under the care that has been given you for your body and mind, and seek His grace to use all lawful means with a quiet heart.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, Thou knowest this Thy servant, unemployed these many months, pressed in circumstance and cast down in spirit. Thou seest the low store, the anxious thoughts by day and by night, and the tears poured out before Thee. Lord, Thou waitest to be gracious, be gracious now. If it be Thy will, open the door that has been sought in this interview, and grant favor in the sight of those who decide. If in Thy wiser love another door is better, close this one gently and make Thy way plain, and provide for every need according to Thy riches in Christ Jesus. Grant renewed strength to the mind and body, calm the troubled thoughts, and let Thy peace, which passeth all understanding, keep heart and mind. Teach this dear one to wait only upon Thee, to hope in Thy word, and to watch for Thy hand. Let this season of waiting become a season of communion, that whether the answer be offer or rejection, Thy name may be trusted and Thy goodness seen. Hear us for Jesus sake, who bore our sorrows and carries our burdens. Amen.

Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.
