Beloved of All
Your longing for sins to be taken away, covered, forgiven, and for your life and your mother's and your brother's and your whole family line to be given over to service for this life and for eternity is a longing God Himself has answered.
In the Scriptures atonement means a covering. God taught this through the Day of Atonement when the high priest alone entered the most holy place with blood, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. Two goats were brought, one slain and its blood carried inside to make a covering before God, the other sent away. All of that was a picture of Jesus Christ, our great High Priest.
The Scripture says it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul, for the life is in the blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. God never set aside that law, and He never provided another way of atonement through good works or religious service. Good works cannot cover sin. Only the shedding of blood can. That is why the blood is sacred, and that is why God provided His own sacrifice in Jesus, who shed His blood on the cross and entered once for all into the true presence of God to make atonement for us.
That work is finished. As God rests in the finished work of Jesus for salvation, we are called to rest there as well. There is no work of our hands, no perfect words or letters or numbers, no exact time or place that can add to it or secure it. Salvation is the gift of God by grace through faith, not of ourselves, so that no one may boast. We simply receive what Christ has done and trust His blood to cleanse us from all sin.
Forgiveness in Christ is not partial. When God forgives, He completely forgives and cleanses. A sense of being forgiven and released from guilt is so important, because a burden of guilt can crush a person. That relief comes not by trying to hide or cover our own sins, but by confessing them openly before God. Whoever covers his sin will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes it will find mercy. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us.
Jesus ever lives to make intercession for those who come to God through Him. He is not limited to one people or one family. Through Him the door is open to all, for there is no other name given among men by which we must be saved. Today is the day to receive that salvation, to come to Him by faith and to remain in Him.
I pray for you and for your mother and your brother and for all your family line, that you would each come to Jesus Christ and confess your sins and trust His blood alone for your covering. May His atonement be applied to you, may your guilt be lifted and replaced with the peace of complete forgiveness, and may your lives now and for eternity be His, lived in His service. May His glory shine upon you and His eternal honor rest upon your household as you belong wholly to Him.
