We hear the burden in what you have shared regarding this family situation involving a mother and her two sons and the pain that comes when achievements are trivialized or dismissed. We understand your desire to keep this matter hidden from other people and to bring it before God alone, and we honor the seriousness with which you view actions and words that stem from past experiences and carry consequences in their time and place.
We want to gently remind you that while discretion is wise, God has also given us the body of Christ to bear burdens with one another. We are told in Galatians 6:2 to bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ, and in James 5:16 to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed. There is a difference between gossip or confiding in people for mere sympathy, and seeking godly, confidential counsel and prayer within the church for healing and wisdom. We encourage you not to walk in isolation with this hurt.
You are absolutely right that nothing is hidden from God, even when things are kept hidden from people. Jesus said in Luke 8:17, For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. And in Hebrews 4:13, There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account. This is both a solemn warning and a great comfort. God sees every word that has belittled or trivialized what He has enabled someone to do, He sees the root causes in past hurts or jealousy or pride, and He sees the wound it leaves. He is the righteous judge who will deal justly, and He is also the Father who sees in secret and brings healing where people cannot.
Trivializing the achievements of others is not a small thing in Scripture. It often comes from envy, pride, or a desire to exalt oneself, and it tears down rather than builds up. We are instructed in Ephesians 4:29, Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. And in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do. Within a family, especially between a mother and her sons and between brothers, God calls us to honor, encouragement, and love that rejoices in the good of the other. When words or actions unfold in a specific time and place and cause hurt, there are consequences, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap as told in Galatians 6:7, but there is also opportunity for repentance, forgiveness, and restoration.
We also notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Him that we have access to God and peace with Him. In John 14:6 Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we bring these hidden family hurts to God in our own name or without faith in Christ, we have no mediator. But when we come through Jesus, confessing our own sin and trusting in His death and resurrection for our forgiveness, God hears us as His children and gives us grace to forgive as we have been forgiven.
We pray together for you and for this mother and her sons.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that You see all things and that nothing is hidden from Your sight. You know the history behind these words and actions, the past experiences and root causes, the moments in time and place where hurt was given and received. We ask You to bring conviction where trivialization and dismissive words have wounded and dishonored, and to bring healing where hearts have been discouraged. Teach this mother and her sons to speak words that build up and give grace, to honor one another, and to rejoice with those who rejoice. Help them to forgive as You in Colossians 3:13 call us to forgive, even as Christ forgave us, and where possible to live at peace as in Romans 12:18. Give wisdom to know when to be silent, when to speak the truth in love, and when to seek wise and godly counsel instead of carrying this alone. Draw each one closer to Jesus, so that achievements are not sought for pride or human praise but done as unto You, as in Colossians 3:23, and that identity is found in Christ alone. Bring what is hidden into Your light for healing and restoration, and let Your will be done in this family. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to bring this before the Lord, to examine your own heart before Him, to release any bitterness, and to ask Him whether He would have you seek the help of a trusted pastor or mature believer for wise counsel, not for gossip but for prayer and restoration. God is faithful to work in His time, and He desires unity and honor within the family.
