Vixi eternal

It is heavy to live under the weight you describe, to feel the consequences of a broken reality around you, with ill will and hostility and constant watching and investigations, and to carry the sorrow of knowing that those who persist in such ways will not inherit the kingdom of God. Your grief is understandable, and it is right to bring it before the Lord.

Jesus did speak of these things. He warned that His followers would face hostility and pressure because they belong to Him, and Scripture is plain that those who continue in unrighteousness, who live in malice and strife and unrepentant sin, will not inherit the kingdom. And you are right to remember His warning not to add to or take away from His word. In Revelation we are told not to add to or take from what God has spoken, and that same principle runs through all of Scripture. We are to receive His word as He gave it, hold fast to what was taught through the Holy Spirit, and not alter it to suit ourselves or the times.

When the church faces persecution and hostility, history shows that God uses even that to refine His people. Persecution does not destroy the true church, it separates what is real from what is not and it often causes faith and love to abound more. Those who suffer for the sake of Christ can rest in this, that God is righteous in His judgment. When He is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, He will repay trouble to those who have troubled His people and give rest to those who have been troubled. It will be a righteous thing for Him to judge. Until then we are called to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, who delivers us from the wrath to come, and to find rest in the certainty that He sees and He will make all things right. The blind will see, the sorrows will pass, and there will be no more sickness or pain when He makes all things new.

In the midst of this you are called to be salt in the earth. In that day salt was valued to preserve what would otherwise corrupt and to give flavor to what would otherwise be tasteless. If salt loses its tang it is good for nothing and is thrown out. Jesus said His people are the salt of the earth. That means staying pure and preserving a witness of righteousness where there is decay, and bringing the savor of Christ where there is bitterness. Do not lose that distinctiveness.

At the same time, hold the heart that Jesus revealed when He spoke of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. The shepherd seeks until he finds the sheep and then calls his friends to rejoice. The woman searches diligently until the coin is found and rejoices. The father waits for the son to come to himself and return, and then makes a feast because the one who was dead is alive and the one who was lost is found. Jesus came to seek and to save what was lost, and there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. It is right to grieve that those around you are on a path that leads away from the kingdom, but do not give up praying for them. The same Lord who judges righteously is also the one who gave His life, the just for the unjust, to bring sinners to God, and the Spirit still searches for the lost.

So keep holding fast to the Lord and to His word without adding or subtracting, keep living as salt that has not lost its flavor, and keep entrusting both yourself and those who oppose you to the Lord who will judge the living and the dead. Ask Him to keep you steadfast in faith and abounding in love, to give you peace as you wait for Jesus, and to work in the hearts of those who are still lost that they might come to repentance and be found.
