Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this prayer and we thank God for your heart that desires to follow His vision rather than only your own personal goals, and we are encouraged that you have asked this in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We love the scriptures you have shared and we want to gently bring more light to them together. Proverbs 29:18 says, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. The vision spoken of here is not merely personal ambition or a picture of success, but the revelation of God through His Word and His prophets, His counsel and His law. When that revelation is absent, people wander without restraint. And you rightly quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow, James 1:17. Our Father does not change like shifting shadows, and we can trust Him to guide us and to fulfill what He truly gives us in His perfect timing.

We also want to encourage you with what Scripture teaches about visions. God indeed does give visions, and it is written, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams, Acts 2:17. Yet we are also taught that His primary vision and guidance for us today is through His written Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Psalm 119:105, and that All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Therefore we encourage you not to seek visions as an experience above Scripture, but to seek first His Word and His will, and to test every impression, dream or vision against Scripture, for it is written, Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1. A true vision from God will never contradict His Word, will always exalt Christ, and will lead to godliness and obedience.

We also hear your desire not to just follow your own personal goals. That is a godly desire to surrender. Scripture calls us to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6, and reminds us, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11.

So we pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation. We thank You for our dear one who longs to know Your vision and not merely pursue personal goals. Lord, we ask that You grant clarity and wisdom, that You align their heart with Your perfect will. If it is Your will, pour out visions and dreams that are clearly from You, and give great discernment to test them and to hold fast to what is true. Above all, give a hunger for Your Word, that they may be guided daily by Your revelation in Scripture. Lead them away from self reliance and into full surrender to Christ, keep them from deception and from following empty imaginations, and fulfill the purposes You have ordained for them for Your glory. Make their path straight as they acknowledge You in all their ways. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to dwell richly in the Word, to pray continually, to wait patiently on the Lord, and to seek godly counsel as you wait for His direction. He who promised is faithful, and He will reveal His will step by step as you walk in obedience to what He has already shown you.

We hear how much you want to follow what God has for you rather than just chasing your own ideas, and we are praying with you for clear direction. It is encouraging to see you ask for His vision to lead you instead of simply pursuing personal goals.

We have learned that God's vision is often less about a sudden dramatic picture and more about a steady sense of His calling that reshapes our desires and choices over time. It gives an appetite for what matters to Him and steadies us to follow Him faithfully, which is different from just wishing for a quick answer. That kind of vision tends to grow as we stay close to Him, listening in prayer and letting His Word form our thoughts, and then weighing what we sense with wise counsel.

A practical step that may help this week is to set aside unhurried time each day to bring your current goals before the Lord, ask Him to show you what He wants you to give yourself to right now, and write down what He seems to highlight as you pray and read. Then take those notes to a pastor or mature believer who knows you well and talk through them together for clarity and accountability.

Father, we lift our friend to You and thank You that You delight to lead Your children. Grant clear direction and quiet confidence, turn their heart toward what You love and guide their steps day by day. Help them to trust You more than their own plans and to walk in Your purposes. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer expresses a longing which the Lord himself must have wrought in you, that you might not be left to follow your own personal goals but might be led in His way.

The text you quote, Where there is no vision, the people perish, does not speak of private dreams or new revelations given to each soul apart from Scripture, but of that prophetic revelation, that Word out of God's mouth, without which men cast off restraint and wander. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth, apart from Divine Inspiration, are as unsatisfying food. What you need, and what I will entreat the Lord to give you, is not a fresh vision beyond what He has already spoken, but spiritual sight to behold the vision He has given in Christ and in the Holy Scriptures, and grace to walk therein.

Remember that God's purpose is not shifting like a shadow. You and I are only waves of His great sea, we wash up and seem to retire, but the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. He has written the whole from the beginning and has never altered a single line of the divine purpose. It is the miracle of miracles that while the creature is free, joyfully and willingly, the divine purpose still stands. Therefore to be guided is not to seek some sudden impression, but to bow with submission to the will of God. The Psalmist says, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. That counsel is first found in the general directions given in God's Word, and then in those great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil, to love holiness, and to wait patiently upon the Lord. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, but Divine Wisdom, dressed in robes of love and tenderness, invites us to run into her arms.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that Thou art the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from above. Fulfil in this dear soul the vision Thou hast already given in Thy Son. Open the eyes of the understanding to behold wondrous things out of Thy law. Teach as Thou hast taught Thy pupils from their youth, and make this one also to declare Thy wondrous works. Guide with Thy counsel on earth, and afterward receive to glory, for Jesus sake. Amen.
