Vision

Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join you in praising God that He does not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift comes from Him. We love your heart to seek His vision rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we stand with you in prayer for this.

We are encouraged by your reference to Proverbs 29:18, which says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. This reminds us that true vision is not merely personal ambition or imagination, but revelation from God that keeps us in His ways and under His restraint and blessing. When we seek vision from Him, we are seeking His Word and His will to guide us.

We also rejoice that you have asked in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. As it is written in John 14:6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And as you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ. We thank You that You are the Father of lights who never changes and that Your plans for us are good. We ask that You pour out Your Spirit upon our dear one and grant clear, biblical vision that comes from You. Let any vision be tested by Your Word and confirmed by Your Spirit, not born of flesh or personal striving. Teach us to trust in Yahweh with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He will make our paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 Help us to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all else will be added according to Your will. Matthew 6:33

Father, we pray that if it is Your will to give visions and dreams, You will do so as You have promised, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17 Give discernment to weigh every impression against Scripture, to test all things and hold firmly to that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 And where You give vision, give also patience and obedience to wait for it, for the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and will not prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not delay. Habakkuk 2:3

We pray that You will instruct and teach in the way which to go and counsel with Your eye upon us. Psalm 32:8 Replace personal goals with Your thoughts, for You have said, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 Let Your Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Psalm 119:105

We thank You that You fulfil the visions You give, for You are faithful to complete the work You begin. We surrender our own plans and ask for Your perfect will to be done. May we not chase visions for their own sake, but chase after You, knowing that when we seek You with our whole heart, You will be found. Continue to draw us closer to Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen.

We love your desire to follow God's leading rather than just chasing your own plans. That hunger to be directed by Him is a good place to be, and we are glad to pray with you.

We have found that what the Bible calls vision is less about chasing a dramatic picture and more about having a clear sense of God's calling that steadies our choices day by day. It grows as we stay close to Him, listen in prayer, stay rooted in His Word, and let trusted believers help us test what we think we are hearing. Sometimes God confirms direction quickly, sometimes He shapes it slowly over time, and both are His way of leading.

One simple practice that helps many people is to set aside a few minutes each day this week to quietly ask God to align your goals with His, jot down any consistent burden or direction that keeps returning, and then share those notes with a pastor or mature Christian friend who knows you well for prayer and perspective.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to guide Your children. We ask You to give our friend wisdom and clarity, to quiet striving and to make Your way plain step by step. Draw them closer to You and help them walk faithfully in what You show them. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing to be led by a vision from God rather than by mere personal goals is itself a sign that grace is at work in your heart, for naturally we do not like being guided and would rather take our own course.

The text you quote, Where there is no vision, the people perish, does not speak of fanciful dreams or the inventions of our own minds, but of divine revelation, that Word out of God's mouth by which a man may live. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth, apart from divine inspiration, are as unsatisfying food as if men tried to live on stones. Without that counsel from above, men cast off restraint, but where God speaks, there is life and direction.

Remember also that with God there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights. What He purposes stands. You and I are only waves of His great sea, we wash up and seem to retire as if there had been no advance, yet the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. The whole was written from the beginning, He knew everything of it, He has never altered a single sentence nor changed a single line of the divine purpose. This is the miracle of miracles, that the creatures are free, absolutely free, and yet the divine purpose stands. Your personal goals are as those waves, but His counsel shall not be broken.

How then shall you receive this vision and be guided by it. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, among them this, avoid everything that is evil and bow with submission to the will of God. Grace dethrones obstinacy and gives in its place acquiescence in the divine will, and by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, so wait upon the Lord and be willing in the day of His power to do the divine bidding.

Therefore I would put to you the question which Scripture puts, Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed. Are you now receiving the Spirit, living under His divine influence and filled with His power. If when you believed you had not a life imparted by the Holy Spirit, your believing was a dead believing, a mere counterfeit of living faith. We must continue to live by receiving. We received Christ Jesus the Lord at the first, and now we receive the Holy Spirit, for at bottom everything depends upon what we receive. The Lord who has taught His pupil from youth still teaches, and He enables that pupil to declare His wondrous works, not by following his own imagination, but by observing what God has wrought and wondering at it.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows, and that You fulfil the visions You give. In Your mercy grant to this Your servant not a vision born of self, but that true vision which is Your revealed counsel, that he may not perish for lack of knowledge but may be guided by Your counsel and afterward received to glory. Make him willing in the day of Your power, fill him with Your Spirit, and teach him as You teach Your children from their youth, that he may see Your wondrous works and walk in them. Give every good and perfect gift that is needed for this path, and keep him from following his own way, that Christ may be all and that Your infallible purpose may be accomplished in his life. We ask this in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.
