Vision

Kensem

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this desire for God given vision and we thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We love your heart to not simply follow your own personal goals but to seek the Lord's direction, for His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. We want to gently share the full meaning of the verse you mentioned, for it helps us pray more clearly. Proverbs 29:18 says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. The vision spoken of there is not primarily personal ambition or even a picture of the future, but the prophetic revelation of God's Word and His will. Without God's Word and His revealed truth, people wander without restraint. With it, we are blessed as we obey. So true vision is always anchored in Scripture.

We do believe God still speaks and guides and can give dreams and visions, as it is written in Acts 2:17 It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yet we are also taught to test what we see and hear, for 1 John 4:1 says do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. Any vision or leading must align with the written Word of God, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Psalm 119:105, and must never contradict it.

We encourage you to seek vision first by seeking Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. As you abide in Christ, who said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, the Holy Spirit will guide you into truth and make God's will clear, sometimes through a strong sense of calling, sometimes through open and closed doors, through counsel, through peace, and at times through a vivid vision or dream, but always in harmony with Scripture.

We also rejoice with you in the truth you quoted, James 1:17 says Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Every true vision from God is indeed a good gift from that same unchanging Father.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are unchanging and faithful and that You desire to lead Your children. We lift up this dear one to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we ask that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation. Grant not just personal goals, but Your divine vision and purpose. Make Your will clear through Your Word, through Your Holy Spirit, and if it pleases You, through visions and dreams that are clearly from You. Give discernment to test all things and to hold fast to what is good, and give courage to obey what You reveal. Lead us away from leaning on our own understanding and help us to acknowledge You in all our ways so that You will direct our paths. Fulfill in us what You have purposed for Your glory, for we trust that You who began a good work will complete it. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is the way to You, amen.

We are grateful you reached out with this honest prayer. Wanting God's direction more than your own goals shows a humble heart that wants to follow Him.

We have found it helps to think of vision less as a sudden picture and more as a steady sense of God's calling that shapes daily choices. One way to think about it is the difference between fantasy, which wants a quick magical answer, and true vision, which gives a quiet appetite for what God values and steadies how we live day by day. That kind of vision often grows over time as we stay close to Him.

A simple next step that many find helpful is to keep bringing that same request before the Lord in a brief daily prayer, then stay rooted in Scripture and in conversation with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you. They can often help you notice where God is already guiding and where your own preferences might be pulling.

Father, we lift up our friend to You. Give clarity and peace as they seek You, help them to hear Your voice above all others, and to walk faithfully in the way You show. Lead them step by step and keep their heart trusting You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is well that you desire to be led by the Lord rather than by your own designs, for where there is no vision, no divine revelation, no word from the mouth of God, the people indeed perish. That text in Proverbs speaks not of our own plans and personal ambitions, but of the prophetic word, the counsel of God revealed in Holy Scripture, without which we wander as lost sheep.

Your heart is right to ask that you may not follow your own personal goals, for naturally we do not like being guided, and we are prone to make our own way. Yet the Lord has not left us without direction. He guides His people with His counsel, and afterward receives them to glory. The sure way of vision is to be guided by the general directions given in God's Word, and by those great principles which the Holy Spirit infuses in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the divine will. When grace dethrones our obstinacy and gives us acquiescence in the divine will, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.

Remember also that God's purpose stands infallible and unchanging. With Him there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and every good and perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights. He has written the whole from the beginning and has never altered a single line of His purpose, and this is the miracle of miracles, that though we are free and accountable, His wise and gracious purpose still moves on like the great sea, carrying all its waves toward His appointed end. You need not fear that His counsel will fail you.

Therefore my prayer for you is not that you should seek after fleeting dreams or the mere notions of your own heart, but that you may truly receive the Holy Spirit and live under His divine influence. Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed, not as a dead believing or a counterfeit faith, but as a life imparted, making you willing in the day of God's power to do the divine bidding. For at bottom everything depends upon what we receive. We must continue to live by receiving, receiving Christ Jesus the Lord and receiving the fullness of His Spirit even now.

May the Lord make you His pupil, as He taught David from his youth, putting object lessons before you and teaching you to read His wondrous works in His Word and in your own life, that you may declare them with pen and voice. May He give you eyes to see His work and a heart to wonder at it.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that Your purpose shall stand. Fulfil in this dear soul the vision which is according to Your Word. Grant not a vision born of human imagination, but that true light which comes from Your counsel. Open the eyes of understanding to behold wondrous things out of Your law. Impart Your Holy Spirit afresh, that there may be life and power and willingness to obey Your bidding. Turn the heart from its own goals to seek Your glory, to be guided by Your Word and kept in Your way, and to be taught by You from youth even to old age. All this we ask not for our own merit, but through Jesus Christ Your Son, who is the only way of salvation and the propitiation for our sins, in whose mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire to be led by God rather than by your own plans is good and pleases Him, and it is right to bring this before Him in prayer.

The verse you mention is often understood to mean personal dreams or pictures, but in its context it speaks of divine revelation, the prophetic word of God. Where that word is not heard and obeyed, people cast off restraint and wander. The vision that keeps people from perishing is not a new private experience, but the sure revelation God has already given in Scripture, which makes His will known and calls us to walk in it.

In the Scriptures God did sometimes give visions, but not as a regular pattern for every believer. He gave them for particular reasons and to confirm His message, often to those who needed a special sign because they were dull of hearing or slow to believe, or to reveal a mystery that had not yet been made known. For those who were already full of faith, He often worked in a quieter way, guiding the heart and mind to understand what was already true. As it is written, signs are for those who do not believe, but for those who believe, faith itself suffices, grounded in what God has already manifested.

This means we should not seek visions as the proof that God is guiding us. If we make our walk depend on seeing something extraordinary, our understanding can become confused, like an eye that mistakes what is before it. God has given us something more certain and more lasting, His written Word, the teaching of Christ, and the illumination of the Holy Spirit to understand it and to obey it. There He shows us His character, His promises, and His commands, and He fulfills what He has promised.

So my prayer for you is not that you would chase after new visions, but that God would give you a deeper love for His Word and clarity to understand it, wisdom to apply it, and faithfulness to obey it. May He guard you from following only personal goals and instead form your goals by His truth, so that your life is ordered by what He has already revealed.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, Father of lights with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning, we thank You for every good and perfect gift that comes from above and for the sure Word You have given us. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would give this Your servant a heart to hear and understand the Scriptures, eyes to see Your will clearly there, and grace to walk in it with obedience and trust. Lead away from mere human plans and establish every step according to Your counsel, for Your glory. In Jesus mighty name, amen.

Your desire not to simply follow your own personal goals but to know what God wants is a good and right desire, and I thank God for that hunger in you.

The verse you mentioned is often understood as a promise of mystical dreams, but in its context it speaks of revelation, the revealed Word of God. Where there is no revealed Word and instruction from the Lord, people cast off restraint and wander. That is why it is such a tragedy when the Bible is not really taught and understood, even among believers. What we most need is not an exciting experience, but a clear hearing of what God has already said, and a heart to walk in it.

God is certainly able to give a vision when He chooses. Scripture shows He has done so, but always on His initiative and for His purposes. When Peter was given that repeated vision, he was not seeking an experience. God was correcting him and preparing him for a specific work, and the Spirit Himself clarified what the vision meant and what Peter was to do next. When Daniel was given understanding, it was a long range revelation concerning God's kingdom and the coming of Christ in glory, given after extended prayer and mourning before the Lord, and those with him did not even see what he saw though they felt its weight. In both cases the vision came from God to accomplish God's plan, not to fulfill a personal ambition.

There is a helpful warning in the story of Jacob and Rebekah. They knew God's stated choice, yet they tried to help God bring it about through their own deception. We do not need to scheme to make God's will happen. He is able to accomplish His own purposes without our manipulation. Our part is to trust Him and obey.

That is why the deeper question is not whether we have a vision, but whether we are seeking God Himself. Much seeking that looks spiritual is really a search for peace of mind or personal tranquility rather than for fellowship with the living God. The purpose for which we were created is fellowship with Him, and sin is what breaks that fellowship. His hand is not short that it cannot save, but our sins have separated us from Him. The law shows us we cannot establish our own standing before Him, and it brings us to despair of ourselves so that we receive His provision, righteousness imputed to all who believe in Jesus Christ, by grace through faith, not of works, a gift from above.

Every good and perfect gift does indeed come down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. He does not change, and what He purposes He will fulfill. Because His will for your life is the very best that could happen to you, the purpose of prayer is not to get Him to accomplish your will, but to get His will done in you. So many waste time still doing their own things, never really searching for what God wants. Scripture urges us to redeem the time, to understand what the will of the Lord is, to be filled with the Spirit, and to walk in love as Christ has loved us.

So I will pray that the Lord draws you into deeper fellowship with Himself through His Word, that He gives you understanding of the revelation He has already given, that He fills you with His Spirit and makes you a usable instrument in His hands. If in His wisdom He chooses to give you a dream or vision, He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think according to the power that works in us, and He will make its meaning clear. Whether He does or not, may He keep you from being sidetracked by lesser pursuits and cause you to be about your Father's business, trusting His love which endures forever, its breadth and length and depth reaching to all who come to Him through Jesus.

Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that every good gift comes from You. We thank You for Your Word which is true and for Your grace that saves us through faith in Jesus. Give this dear one a hunger for Your Word, clarity to know Your will, and a willing heart to do it. Lead into that fellowship for which we were made, cleanse what would separate from You, and work in this life for Your glory. Teach us to seek You above all else, and to walk as Jesus walked, in Jesus mighty name, amen.
