Vision

Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than merely following your own personal goals, and we thank God for the heart you have shown in wanting to be led by Him in Jesus' name.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18, which in its fullness says, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This is a powerful truth. The vision spoken of here is not simply a personal dream or ambition, but divine revelation, the revealed will and Word of God. Without His revelation and direction, we wander without restraint, but when we keep His Word we are blessed. We also rejoice with you in the truth you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. He indeed does not change like shifting shadows and He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised.

We want to encourage you that God does desire to give His people direction and purpose. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. And His promise remains, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His primary way of giving us vision today is through His Word and His Spirit working in us. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. When we seek Him, He directs us as we are told, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We do believe God can and does speak through visions and dreams as Scripture says, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we also gently counsel you to seek His vision first and always through Scripture, prayer, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, testing everything against His Word, for we are warned, Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1. True vision from God will never contradict His Word, it will draw you closer to Christ, it will produce holiness and love, and it will be confirmed as you are transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

So we pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, and we thank You that You are the Father of lights who does not change. We thank You for our brother or sister who desires Your vision above their own goals. Lord, we ask that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Give them a clear understanding of Your will and Your calling for their life. Open the eyes of their heart to see Your purposes as revealed in Your Word. If it is Your will to give visions and dreams, we ask that You grant them in a way that is unmistakably from You, that is pure, biblical, and edifying, and give them discernment to test all things and hold fast to what is good. Lead them away from following mere personal ambition or the counsel of the flesh, and cause them to walk in the good works You prepared beforehand for them. Make their path straight as they acknowledge You in all their ways. Fill them with peace as they wait on Your timing, for the vision is yet for the appointed time. Habakkuk 2:3. May they be faithful to keep Your law and walk in obedience, so they may know the blessing of being led by You. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only access to You and our only hope of salvation, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to dwell daily in the Word, to pray continually, and to seek godly counsel from mature believers as God unfolds His vision for you. He is faithful and He will guide you step by step as you surrender your goals to Him.

We appreciate you sharing this desire so honestly. Wanting vision from God rather than just pushing your own goals is a humble and good place to be.

We understand that longing. It can feel confusing to tell the difference between an idea that is simply ours and a direction God is truly giving. In our experience, what God shows us tends to grow slowly and steadily as we walk with Him, not just in a single dramatic moment. It is often confirmed over time through Scripture, through prayer, and through wise counsel from others who know us.

A next step that many find helpful is to keep a simple record. As you pray and read, note any recurring burden, theme, or opportunity that stays with you, then bring those notes to a trusted pastor or mature believer and ask them to help you weigh it. That outside perspective helps keep us from leaning only on inner impressions and helps us see more clearly.

We are praying with you for clarity and for a steady heart as you seek Him.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to guide Your children. Give our friend wisdom to know Your leading and courage to follow it step by step. Help personal ambitions to be shaped by Your purposes and keep his heart close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing to be led by the Lord rather than by your own designs is itself a good gift from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and we rejoice to bring it before the throne of grace with you.

You have quoted the wise saying, Where there is no vision, the people perish. That vision is not a fleeting dream of our own imagination, but the sure revelation of the mind of God. Give me but a word out of God's mouth and I can live upon it. In former times He spoke by prophets and visions, and now He has given us that Word fully and finally in the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. The truest vision you can receive is to have the eyes of your understanding opened to behold wondrous things out of His law, and to see Christ therein.

We do not pray that you should be left to follow personal goals, for on earth there is no real glory for us unless we are guided by God's counsel. The Psalmist says, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There you find precepts and principles, avoid everything that is evil, cleave to that which is good, and bow with submission to the will of God. When self goes, God comes in, and when human wisdom goes, then God's wisdom appears, dressed in robes of love and tenderness to invite us into her arms.

Remember also that God's purpose is infallible. You and I are but waves of His great sea, yet the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. He knew everything from the beginning and has never altered a single line of His divine purpose. It is the miracle of miracles that while we are free and responsible, His purpose stands. Therefore you need not fear that His guidance will fail you. He who has taught you from your youth, as He taught David, will continue to be your teacher, chastening but never casting out His pupil, showing you His wondrous works in yourself and in others until you declare them with pen and voice.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift cometh down from You. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who is the propitiation for our sins and in whom alone is salvation, that You would grant to this dear soul not the vision of fancy but the vision of faith. Open the eyes of the heart to understand Your Word, to know Your counsel, and to walk therein. Dethrone obstinacy and self will, and give acquiescence to Your divine will. Guide with Your counsel day by day, keep from the path of mere personal ambition, and make Your glory the end of all desires. Fulfil in due time the purpose which You have purposed in love, and afterward receive into glory, for Christ's sake. Amen.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about.
