Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in thanking our Father that He does not change and that every good gift comes from Him, and we rejoice that you have asked for His vision and His will above your own personal goals in the name of Jesus.

We love your heart to seek what God wants rather than simply pursuing your own plans, for the heart that seeks Him will find Him. You quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently share the full richness of that verse with you. Where it says where there is no vision the people perish, the word for vision there means prophetic revelation, the revealed word and will of God. It reads, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This reminds us that without God's revealed truth we wander without restraint, but when we hear and obey His word we are blessed and kept on the right path. True vision from God never contradicts His written Word, and His written Word is the sure foundation by which we test every impression, dream, or vision. As it is written, Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. And also, Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21.

You are right to praise Him that He is the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17, and that truth gives us confidence that when He gives guidance He will also be faithful to fulfill what He has promised and to lead us step by step. We do believe God still speaks and guides His people, and as it is written, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we also know His primary way of giving us vision is through Scripture illuminated by the Holy Spirit, through prayer, and through godly counsel. He promises, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. And, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

So we pray together with you for clear, biblical vision.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear one to You and thank You for the hunger You have placed in their heart to know Your will and not just follow personal ambition. We ask that You pour out Your wisdom upon them and give them eyes to see and ears to hear what Your Spirit is saying. Grant them visions, dreams, and divine guidance as it pleases You, but above all give them a deep love for Your Word and a clear understanding of it, so that every leading can be tested and confirmed by Scripture. Lead them away from self directed goals and into the good, well pleasing and perfect will You have prepared for them, for we know You have said, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Teach them to wait upon You, to be still and know that You are God, and to walk in obedience day by day. When You do give a vision, give also the faith, humility, and perseverance to walk it out for Your glory. Keep them from deception and cast off restraint, and make them one who keeps Your law and is blessed. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in the Word and in prayer, asking the Spirit of truth to guide you into all truth. John 16:13. Write down what you believe He is showing you, pray over it, test it with Scripture, and seek confirmation through mature believers. God delights to give vision to those who desire to obey Him, and as you delight yourself in Him, He will direct your paths and fulfill the vision He gives you in His perfect timing.

Thank you for sharing this desire with us. We can hear your sincere longing to follow the Lord and not simply chase your own plans, and we are grateful to stand with you in that.

Wanting vision from God is a good and humble desire. In our experience He does guide His people, sometimes in a vivid way and more often through a quiet sense of direction over time as we stay close to Him, listen, and walk obediently in what we already know is His will. It helps to hold any impression lightly at first and test it with time, prayer and the wisdom of others who know you and love Jesus.

One simple practice that may help is to keep a short regular time to be still before Him. Bring your goals openly, ask Him to lead and to reshape them as He sees best, notice what stays on your heart, and then talk it through with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can help you discern what is from Him.

Father, we thank You for this heart that wants to follow You. We ask You to make Your way clear in Your timing and to give peace and confidence to follow step by step. Draw our friend close to You, shape desires to reflect Your purposes, and give wisdom for each decision ahead. We trust Your faithful love to lead well. In Jesus name, amen.

Your longing not to follow your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself an evidence of a work of Grace upon the heart, for naturally we do not like being guided. Where there is no vision, no revelation of the mind of God, the people perish, and that vision is not a new dream or private fancy, but the sure Word out of God's mouth upon which a soul may live.

Give me but a Word from the Lord and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from Divine Inspiration are as unsatisfying as stones for bread. The vision you need is therefore already set before you in the Scriptures, which are invested with Divine authority and able to make you wise. Be guided first by the general directions given in God's Word, and by the great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the Divine will. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief, but when self goes, God comes in, and when human wisdom goes, then God's Wisdom appears.

Remember also that God's purpose is infallible and never changes like shifting shadows. You and I are but waves upon His great sea, yet the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. He knew everything from the beginning and has never altered a single line of the divine purpose. This is the miracle of miracles, that the creature is free and yet the joy of the divine purpose stands. You may therefore trust not in a fleeting impression, but in Him with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, from whom every good and perfect gift cometh down.

Be content to be God's pupil all your life, as David was, whom God taught from his youth through many struggles and chastenings, educating his faith and increasing his Divine Graces. Being taken into the School of God, he was made to observe God's work and to wonder at it, and then to declare His wondrous works with pen and voice. So shall it be with you as you wait upon the Lord in His Word and in prayer.

Let us pray for you. O God, who art the Father of lights, we thank Thee that Thou dost fulfil the visions Thou givest. Grant to this soul not a vision of imagination, but illumination to understand Thy counsel and a heart made willing to acquiesce in Thy Divine will. Guide with Thy counsel day by day, keep from the path of self, and afterward receive to Glory, for on earth there is no true glory for any man who takes his own course. Make this one to see Thy power and love manifested in present trials, to stand at ease in the midst of tribulation by long experience and much Divine Grace, and to know that Thy purpose shall stand. In Jesus' mighty and powerful name we ask it, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank God for your desire not to follow only your own personal goals but to be led by Him, and we join you in prayer for this.

The verse you mention is precious, but the word translated vision there does not mean a private dream or an ecstatic sight. It means the revealed word and counsel of God, His law and prophetic instruction. Where that revelation is neglected, the people indeed wander without restraint. Where it is heard and obeyed, there is life and order. So the right prayer is not only for a sensible sight, but for a clear understanding of what God has already spoken and for grace to walk in it.

In the Scriptures we see that God did at times give sensible signs. There was a sound of a mighty wind and visions of fiery tongues, and the Spirit descended as a dove to point out the Son of God. Yet those signs were given for those who needed to be pointed and convinced. For those who believe, faith suffices instead of all sensible vision, for signs are not for those who believe but for those who do not believe. Upon you also no less at your baptism the Spirit has come, even if no visible sign appears, and what was once manifested to point to Christ we now receive by faith.

This does not mean God is silent. As it is written, by faith being warned of God, and what is called a divine communication comes both from God and from the Holy Spirit, for as God reveals so also the Spirit reveals. The Spirit still warns, teaches, and guides, but His ordinary and sure way is through the holy Scriptures, through prayer, and through a life of obedience, not through seeking extraordinary sights. To measure divine things by our own reasonings or to chase after visions for their own sake can lead us astray. What we need most is to know His will as it is made manifest in Christ and in the Gospel, according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. He does not change, and He fulfills what He reveals.

We pray for you in this way:

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that Your word is a sure light for our path. Grant to our brother or sister not a restless seeking after signs, but a true vision of Your will through Your word. Open the eyes of the heart to understand the Scriptures, give wisdom to discern Your holy calling which is not according to our works but according to Your own purpose and grace in Christ Jesus, and give strength to obey it. Keep this one from following mere personal goals, and make the steps firm in the way of righteousness and mercy and a broken and obedient spirit, which are the sacrifices with which You are well pleased. Lead by Your Spirit, confirm by Your word, and fulfill in Your time what You have promised. We ask this in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

Thank you for sharing your heart and your desire to follow the Lord rather than simply following your own plans. That desire itself is a good gift from above, and it is right to bring it to the Father who does not change like shifting shadows and who is faithful to fulfill what He has spoken.

The verse you mentioned is often understood as a call for personal goals or ideas, but in Scripture that word vision means the revealing of God's Word to His people. Where there is no hearing and receiving of what God has said, people wander without restraint and without direction. Where His Word is heard and obeyed, there is life and guidance. So the deepest answer to your prayer is not only to ask for a striking experience, but to ask for a heart that hears, receives, and walks in what God has already revealed in the Bible, and to be satisfied there.

God does give visions in Scripture, and when He does, it is because He is outside of time. What He shows can be something that has not yet happened in our time, yet you see it as if it were happening now, because you are being allowed to see from His timeless perspective. Many of those revelations, like the one given to Daniel, were sealed until the last days, and the Lord said they would be understood as those days drew near and knowledge increased. Their final fulfillment looks to the time when Jesus comes with great glory to establish His kingdom and reign from Zion, and every promise God has made will surely come to pass. God keeps His Word, and what He shows He will accomplish.

We also have the promise that in these last days God has poured out His Spirit upon all who believe. In the past, prophesying was the sign that the Spirit had come upon a person, and now that same Spirit is given to all of His people, sons and daughters alike. That is why we can speak His Word with confidence and assurance, not as uncertain opinions, but as His sure Word.

The Lord's invitation through the ages has been simple. Turn to me, and I will turn to you. If you seek Him, He will be found by you. If your heart is not satisfied in hearing His Word, you will find yourself searching here and there for something to fill the void. But when you turn to Him and give yourself to His Word, He gives you a heart to walk in His ways and to keep what He has commanded, not in your own strength but by His Spirit within you.

So my prayer for you is not only for a momentary sight, but for a growing clarity that comes from abiding in Christ and in Scripture. May the Lord give you a clear hearing of His Word, wisdom to understand it, and a willing heart to obey it, so that you are not driven by personal ambition but led by Him. May He guard you from restless wandering and fill you with His Spirit, so that you speak and live His truth with quiet confidence.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, and every good and perfect gift comes down from You. Thank You that You do not change and that You fulfill what You have promised. I ask in the name of Jesus that You draw this dear one close to Yourself, open Your Word to them, and pour out Your Spirit upon them. Give them ears to hear Your voice in Scripture, a heart satisfied in Your truth, and clear direction for each step, so that they walk in Your statutes and not in their own desires. Lead them away from mere personal goals into Your purposes, and establish them in Your unchanging faithfulness. In Jesus mighty name, amen.
