Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than simply following personal goals, and we thank God that you have brought this request before Him in Jesus' name.

We love your heart to not lean on your own understanding but to desire what God desires for you. You quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently share what that verse means in its full context so you may be encouraged even more. Where the King James says where there is no vision the people perish, the World English Bible says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of there is not primarily a mystical picture or a personal dream for success, but the prophetic revelation of God's Word. Where God's Word is not known and obeyed, people wander without restraint. Where it is kept, there is blessing and life. So the greatest vision we can receive is the revelation God has already given us in Scripture, and any further vision He gives will never contradict it.

We also rejoice that you thanked the Father who does not change like shifting shadows. As it is written Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17. What a beautiful truth that the God who gives good gifts is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We do believe God still speaks and guides His people, and He can give visions and dreams as He wills. For it is written It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we are also taught to test what we see and hear, Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1. Any vision that claims to be from God must align with His written Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Psalm 119:105.

Our encouragement to you is to seek the Giver more than the gift. If you lack wisdom about the direction for your life, God invites you to ask. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We find His perfect will not by conforming to our own ambitions or to this world, but by being transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. And we can trust His heart toward us, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His way is to have us Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

So we pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for this dear one who does not want to follow personal goals but wants to follow You. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would give revelation and clarity according to Your will. Pour out Your Spirit and make Your Word alive to them. Give them a vision that is rooted in Your Word, not in fleshly ambition, and give them discernment to test every impression against Scripture. Lead them away from self-directed plans and into Your good, well-pleasing and perfect will. Make their path straight as they acknowledge You, and keep them in Your law that they may be blessed. Fulfill the purpose You have for their life for Your glory. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only access to You and our only hope of salvation, amen.

We hear the humility in what you shared, wanting to be led by God and not just by your own plans. That desire itself matters to Him, and we are grateful you brought it to prayer so openly.

We love that you want vision that keeps you anchored. In our experience God often forms that kind of clarity over time as we stay close to Him, more than through a single dramatic moment. As we keep bringing our goals to Him honestly, He gently shapes them, confirms what is from Him, and redirects what is not.

A simple practice that helps many is to set aside unhurried time to bring your current plans before the Lord in prayer with your Bible open, asking Him to align your heart with His will for this season. It also helps to share what you sense with a pastor or mature believer who knows you well, someone who can help you weigh it calmly and see it more clearly.

We are standing with you for wisdom and a listening heart as you seek Him.

Father, thank You that You do not change and that You are faithful to lead those who seek You. We ask You to give our friend clear direction and peace as he waits on You, to shape his desires to Yours and to show him the next step to take. Help him to walk closely with You and to trust Your timing. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to walk in the way of the Lord is a good desire, and it is right to bring it before Him in prayer.

You have quoted the proverb, Where there is no vision, the people perish, and you ask for visions. It is needful to understand what that word vision means. In that place it does not signify dreams or sights granted to private persons according to their asking, but the prophetic revelation of the mind of God, His Word made known to His people. Where that revelation is withheld or despised, the people cast off restraint. We have that revelation now in full in the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. To seek a fresh vision apart from that Word is to seek abroad for what is already near at hand in the gospel.

What you need, and what we may with confidence ask of the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, is not a new revelation, but spiritual sight to behold what He has already revealed. It is one thing to ask for a sight with the eyes, and another to have believing sight of Christ by faith. Believing is seeing. When the heart trusts the slain Savior, it receives the salvation of the soul and beholds the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Remember also that the purpose of God is infallible and unchangeable. The whole was written from the beginning, He knew everything of it, He has never altered a single sentence nor changed a single line of the divine purpose. And this is the wonder, that He effects His purpose while the creature is yet free. You need not fear that you shall miss His will if you walk humbly before Him, for His sovereignty encloses His people and His immutability is a firm ground of confidence. He fulfils the visions He gives, not shifting like a shadow, but abiding the same forever.

Therefore the way to be kept from following your own goals is not to seek visions as they are commonly desired in our day, but to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Seek a holy character, seek to be right before God, seek to obey Him, and all things needful shall be added unto you. Seek His glory heartily and honestly and obediently, for a man cannot say he seeks God's glory while he is disobeying God's command in what he is doing. God has taught His people from their youth, and He continues to teach them by His Word and Spirit, and by His many providences educating their faith.

You must still continue to pray, for you do not know what God's will is in every particular of providence, but you must pray with resignation after your Savior's perfect model in the garden, Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Let us pray together for that true vision which comes by illumination.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that Thou art the Father of lights and every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from Thee. We thank Thee that Thou dost not change, and that Thy purpose standeth fast. Grant to this Thy servant not a new revelation beyond what Thou hast spoken, but open eyes to see wondrous things out of Thy law. Give sight by faith to behold Christ and to trust Him fully. Teach this soul from Thy Word, increase divine grace, and lead in the path of obedience, that personal goals may be laid down and Thy will be done. Clothe with righteousness, keep in the secret of Thy tabernacle, and cause to declare Thy wondrous works with heart and life. This we ask in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about.
