Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We rejoice with you in your desire to seek God's vision over your own personal goals and we join together with you in prayer for this in Jesus' name.

We love your heart that wants to follow the Lord and not just your own plans. You quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently share what that verse means in its full context, for it is a precious promise. It says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of here is not merely personal ambition or dreams for success, but the revealed Word and will of God. Where God's revelation and truth are not known and obeyed, people wander without restraint and perish. So your prayer is truly biblical, to want God's revelation to guide you so you do not wander.

We also thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He fulfills what He reveals. As you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. Every true vision from God is indeed a good gift from above, and because our Father does not change, we can trust Him to lead and to fulfill His purposes in His perfect timing.

We want to encourage you that God does still speak and lead His people, and He desires to give you His vision for your life. He says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. And we are promised Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Your desire to not just follow your own personal goals is very pleasing to God, for our own understanding can lead us astray, but His ways are perfect.

We also encourage you to seek the Giver more than the gift. Visions are not something we can demand, but something God graciously gives according to His will. He says Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. The primary way God gives us vision today is through His written Word and by His Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts as we pray and abide in Christ. The prophet Joel spoke of the days when God would pour out His Spirit, saying that your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28, which was fulfilled at Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2:17. We should desire these workings of the Spirit, but we must also test everything against Scripture, for the Bible says Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1. Any true vision from God will never contradict His Word, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will produce peace and holiness, not confusion.

So we pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, and that You are faithful to reveal Your will to Your children who seek You. We thank You for this dear one who longs for Your vision and not merely to follow personal goals. We ask in Jesus' mighty name that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Grant them a clear vision of Your purpose for their life, whether through Your Word, through the gentle leading of Your Holy Spirit, through dreams or visions as You will. Give them discernment to test every leading against Scripture and to recognize Your voice. Make their path straight as they trust in You with all their heart and acknowledge You in all their ways. Keep them from casting off restraint, and help them to keep Your law and walk in obedience, that they may be blessed. Fulfill the good work You have begun in them, for every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. Lead them away from selfish ambition and into Your perfect, pleasing will. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

Continue to seek Him daily in prayer and in the Word, wait patiently upon Him, and walk in obedience to what He has already revealed. He who promised is faithful, and He will guide you step by step.

We are encouraged by your heart to seek God's vision rather than simply pursuing your own plans. That desire to be led by Him instead of leaning on your own ideas is a good and humble place to be.

We have found that learning to recognize His leading is often less like a single moment of trying and more like training over time. Small, faithful practices day by day shape us so we become more attuned to His voice. Prayer, spending time in Scripture, repentance, fellowship and forgiveness slowly form us, and our expectations and motives become clearer as we keep walking with Him. It helps to hold your personal goals openly before Him and invite Him to refine, redirect or confirm them as you continue to seek.

One simple step that may help is to set aside a regular unhurried time to pray and listen, bringing one or two of those goals before the Lord and asking what He wants with them, then noticing over days and weeks what He brings to mind through His Word and through wise counsel from mature believers around you.

Father, we lift our friend to you in Jesus name. We thank you that you do not change and that you are faithful to lead those who seek you. Give clarity and humility to discern your will and peace to trust your timing. Shape their desires to align with yours and guide their next steps according to your wisdom. Amen.

Your longing not to follow your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself a gracious longing, and I thank God for it. The text you quote is precious, yet it is often misunderstood. Where there is no vision, the people perish, does not speak of a private dream or an inward picture for self direction, but of prophetic revelation, the Word of the Lord. Where that Word is not preached and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. What you need, and what we all need, is not a new vision beyond Scripture, but eyes to see the vision God has already given.

Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it. That Word we have in the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Would you be guided aright, then be guided by the general directions given in God's Word, and by those great principles which the Spirit infuses into the heart that bows to the divine will. The Lord guides His people with His counsel, and afterward receives them to glory. He has taught many of His children from their youth, as a pupil in His school, and He still teaches by His Word and Spirit, not by adding to revelation, but by opening blind eyes to behold wondrous things out of His law.

Remember also that the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. He has written all from the beginning and has never altered a single line of His purpose, yet in wonderful wisdom He works that purpose while we remain free and responsible, choosing, praying, obeying. Your part is not to chase a sign, but to bow with submission to His will, to avoid everything that is evil, to walk in the light already given, and to trust that He who is the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, will make His way plain step by step.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows, and that every good and perfect gift cometh down from above, from Your hand. We thank You that You have given us Your Word, a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, and that You have given us Your Son, whose blood cleanses us from all sin. Grant to this seeking soul not a fleeting dream, but a clearer sight of Christ in the Scriptures, and a heart made willing to follow Your counsel. Teach as only You can teach, and make Your Word to dwell richly within, that personal goals may be surrendered to Your infallible purpose. Lead by Your counsel in this life, and afterward receive into glory, in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing to be led by God and not simply by your own personal goals is itself a work of grace, and it is good that you bring this desire to Him in prayer.

The verse you mention, where there is no vision the people perish, does not speak only of personal dreams or ideas, but of the revelation of God, His word and His guidance made known to His people. When that revelation is absent or ignored, people wander without restraint. When it is kept and obeyed, there is life and blessing. So the vision to seek is not a fleeting image or a private ambition, but the clear knowledge of God and His will revealed above all in Scripture and through Christ.

For this reason Scripture warns that as a disordered eye mistakes what it sees, so a mind made turbid by confusion and evil thoughts can mistake what it thinks is vision. A healthy vision is one that remains sane and free from distorted phantoms, seeing Christ and His truth clearly. That health comes from remembering God always and carrying Him in your thoughts, for when we remember Him we are led to choose what is good, and He enables us to accomplish it. It also comes from thirsting for Him as a thirsty person longs for water. Jesus said, if anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink, and He promises that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. God has vouchsafed true vision to those who sought Him in this way and then showed forth a life as the laws of Christ require.

I join you in praying for this kind of vision.

Heavenly Father, Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, from whom every good and perfect gift comes down, thank you that you do not change and that you fulfill what you reveal. In the name of Jesus Christ your Son, through whom alone we have access to you, I ask that you grant to this your servant a true vision of yourself and of your will. Guard the eye of the understanding and keep it healthy and clear from confusion. Give a deep thirst for your word and for righteousness, and a constant remembrance of you in all thoughts and ways. Lead away from following only personal goals, and establish steps in obedience to your revelation, so that what you show may be lived out for your glory. Grant wisdom to test all things by Scripture and to walk faithfully where you lead. In Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.
