Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join you in thanking God for putting this desire in your heart to seek His vision rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we agree with you in prayer that you will hear clearly from Him.

We love your reference to Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently encourage you with what that verse truly means. In the World English Bible it says, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of there is not merely personal ambition or even a good idea, but divine revelation, the revealed Word and will of God. Without His revelation we wander without restraint, but when we keep His law and walk in His revealed will we are blessed. So your prayer is exactly right, to ask not for your own plans to be blessed, but for His plans to be revealed to you.

We rejoice that you have acknowledged the character of our Father, that He does not change like shifting shadows. As it is written, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow. James 1:17. Because He does not change, we can trust that any true vision He gives He will also fulfill in His perfect timing. We also remember His promise, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His vision for you is better and higher than anything you could devise for yourself.

We encourage you to continue to seek His vision by delighting in His Word, by waiting on Him in prayer, and by surrendering your own goals daily. We are told, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And, Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. True visions from God will never contradict Scripture, so test everything you sense in your spirit against His written Word, for we are told to test the spirits whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1. He promises, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. And we hold to the promise that in the last days God would pour out His Spirit and your young men will see visions. Acts 2:17.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for our brother or sister who desires Your vision above personal ambition. Lord, we ask in Jesus' name that You would grant clear revelation according to Your will. Quiet any striving and any voice of self, and speak by Your Holy Spirit. Give a vision that is rooted in Your Word and that leads to obedience and fruit for Your glory. Teach us to wait for it, for the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it, because it will surely come. Habakkuk 2:3. Help us to keep Your law and to walk in the path You make straight. Let Your will be done in this life as it is in heaven, and let any vision You give be fulfilled for Your honor. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only access to You and our only hope of salvation, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Amen.

We appreciate you sharing this desire to follow God's leading rather than just your own plans. That hunger itself is a good sign He is at work in you.

We understand the longing for a clear picture from God. In our experience what He calls vision is often less about a sudden dramatic image and more about a growing sense of His calling that shapes how we live day by day. It steadies us, gives us a taste for what matters to Him, and helps us choose faithfulness in the small things while He makes the larger path clear.

A simple next step that helps many is to keep a quiet, unhurried time to seek Him and listen, bringing both Scripture and your current decisions before Him, and to share what you sense with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you. They can help you test what you are hearing and encourage you to take the next obedient step you do see.

We are praying with you for clarity and for a heart that keeps wanting His way above your own.

Father, thank You for this desire to follow You. We ask You to give our friend wisdom and a clear sense of Your calling, to guide each step and draw their heart closer to You. Lead them in Your will and give them peace as they trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing not to follow merely your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself a token that Grace has wrought upon your heart, for naturally we do not like being guided. It is well that you have been made to feel your need of a guide.

Concerning that text, Where there is no vision, the people perish, the vision there spoken of is not a private dream or a new revelation granted to fancy, but the prophetic revelation of the mind of God, even His Word. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth, apart from Divine Inspiration, must be as unsatisfying food. Where that Word is not known and obeyed, the people indeed cast off restraint and perish. Where it is loved and followed, there is life and order and hope.

You pray for visions, and I would turn your prayer with you to that which God has promised to give. He has not promised to guide His people by fresh revelations apart from Scripture, for I have a notion that many who claim such revelations have received them not from God's Word but through a slight aperture in a cracked brain, and to those we pay no sort of attention. His way is surer and more gracious. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There you have His counsel plainly declared. Second, there are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, such as this, avoid everything that is evil and bow with submission to the will of God. By that very acquiescence in the Divine will we are furnished with unerring guidance. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, so wait upon the Lord, be much in prayer, and be diligent in the study of the Scriptures where He has taught His people from their youth and shown them His wondrous works.

You have well said that our Father does not change like shifting shadows. With Him is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights. So it is with God's purpose. You and I are only waves of His great sea, we wash up and seem to retire, but the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. The whole was written there from the beginning, He knew everything of it, He has never altered a single sentence nor changed a single line of the divine purpose. This is the miracle of miracles, that the creatures are free, absolutely free, and yet the divine purpose stands. You need not fear that His counsel will fail you, nor that He will leave you to the vanity of your own designs. If you are His, He will guide you with His counsel and afterward receive you to glory. On earth there is no real glory for us unless we are guided by God's counsel, there is no true glory for any man who takes his own course.

Let us pray together that the Lord will give you not a new vision beyond what is written, but a true sight of what is already written, and a heart to follow it.

O God, You have taught us from our youth, and until this time we have declared Your wondrous works. We thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, whose purpose standeth fast and shall not be broken. Fulfil in this dear soul the good purpose of Your will. Open the eyes of the understanding to behold wondrous things out of Your law. Grant not the fleeting visions of fancy, but that abiding vision which comes by Your Spirit through Your Word, that this life may not be spent in following personal goals but in walking in the way of Your counsel. Give grace to avoid every evil thing, to submit with holy acquiescence to Your will, and to wait patiently for Your direction. Guide with Your counsel on earth, and afterward receive into glory, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. Guard the eye of the understanding from confusion and from evil thoughts, and keep it healthy and sane by Your truth.
