Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in asking the Lord for true vision that comes from Him and not from our own desires, and we praise God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We love your heart to not simply follow personal goals but to walk in the purposes God has for you. The scripture you mentioned reminds us in Proverbs 29:18 that where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. This shows us that godly vision is not merely an idea or ambition, but revelation from God that keeps us in His ways and under His guidance. We also remember James 1:17 that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. Any true vision will be a good gift from Him and will agree with His Word.

We encourage you to continue to seek vision first through the Word of God and through prayer, for God most clearly reveals His will through Scripture by His Holy Spirit. Visions and dreams are spoken of in scripture as in Joel 2:28 where it is said I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions, and again in Acts 2:17. Yet we are also taught to test all things and hold firmly to that which is good in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and to test the spirits whether they are of God in 1 John 4:1. So we pray that any vision you receive will be clearly from the Lord, will align with Scripture, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will be confirmed by the peace of the Holy Spirit and by godly counsel. We encourage you to trust in Yahweh with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding, and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight as taught in Proverbs 3:5-6, and to remember Jeremiah 29:11 that He knows the thoughts He thinks toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are unchanging and that every good and perfect gift comes from You. We thank You for this dear one who desires Your vision above personal ambition. Father, we ask in the name of Jesus that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation according to Your will. Grant clear vision that is from Your Spirit, that is rooted in Your Word, and that leads to obedience and fruit for Your kingdom. Remove any vision that is merely of the flesh or of the enemy, and give discernment to know the difference. Lead this life step by step as You promise in Psalm 32:8 that You will instruct and teach in the way to go and counsel with Your eye on us. Let this vision bear the character of Christ and bring glory to You. We ask that You fulfill what You have begun, for You are faithful. We pray this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We appreciate you sharing this desire so honestly. Wanting God's leading instead of just following your own plans is a humble and good place to be, and we are glad to pray with you for clear direction.

We have found that learning to recognize how God guides us is often more like training than trying for one big moment. It grows through steady, small faithfulness over time as we stay close to Him in prayer, in His Word, and with other believers who know us well. Sometimes God does give a vivid sense of vision, but more often He shapes our understanding gradually as we walk with Him and come to know His character, so we can weigh what we sense against who He is.

One simple practice that helps many people is to keep a regular, unhurried time to listen as you read Scripture and pray, and jot down what you believe God may be putting on your heart. Then bring those notes to a trusted pastor or mature believer to talk and pray through together. That kind of quiet consistency and gentle accountability often brings more clarity than waiting alone for something dramatic.

Father, thank You for this heart that wants to follow You. We ask You to give wisdom, to guard from self direction, and to lead step by step with peace. Draw this one closer to You each day and make Your way plain as You are trusted, in Jesus' name, amen.

It is a good and needful desire you have expressed, to be kept from following your own personal goals and to be led by the Lord. Where there is no vision, no revelation of God, the people perish, for they cast off restraint, but where the Lord reveals Himself in His Word there is light and life.

Understand then what that vision is. It is not first a private dream or a sudden sight, but the sure Revelation which God has given us in Holy Scripture, and the mind of Christ made known by the Holy Spirit within us. The Lord guides His people not by leaving them to their own imaginations, but by great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, and the first of these is to avoid everything that is evil, and to bow with submission to the will of God. The Grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives us in its place acquiescence in the Divine will, and by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. Divine Wisdom, dressed in robes of love and tenderness, invites us to run into her arms, and she speaks to us most clearly in the Law of the Book and the Law of the Spirit within us.

Take heed also against haste, for haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. We must not run after every claim of a new revelation apart from the Word. As one has wisely said, we will wait till we have a revelation to the same effect as God has already given in Scripture, for God does not change like shifting shadows. With Him is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights. What you need is not a novel vision, but the opening of your eyes to see the vision already given, and the Divine Presence to make it powerful in your soul.

This is not the land of sight, we walk here by faith and not by sight. Dim enough is the vision here, but there is a glorious vision yet to come when we shall see Him as He is. Until that day, your hope is the Divine Presence itself, which dissolves difficulties and keeps the feet from falling. Seek that Presence prayerfully, give yourself to the Word, and pray for the Holy Spirit to work all your works in you.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that You fulfil the visions You give us. We thank You that every good and perfect gift is from above. Grant to this dear soul not a restless seeking after novelty, but a clear sight of Your revealed will. Give grace to acquiesce in Your Divine will, to avoid all evil, to walk by faith, and to be guided by Your wisdom and love. Keep this one from haste and from self chosen goals, and lead by Your counsel till You afterward receive into glory. Make Your Word to be a lamp unto the feet and Your Spirit to be the Guide within. This we ask in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire to seek God's direction rather than simply following your own personal goals is good and pleasing to God, and I thank Him for the humility in your request.

The verse you mentioned, Proverbs 29:18, is often understood to mean personal dreams or pictures, but in its context the word translated vision means divine revelation, the prophetic Word of God. Where that revelation is neglected, people cast off restraint and wander without guidance. So the greatest vision we need is not a new mystical sight, but a clear understanding of what God has already revealed in Scripture and the wisdom to walk in it faithfully.

This is what faith does. As Scripture says of Moses, he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. He did not need a constant new sign, but he trusted the faithful God who does not change, and he ordered his life by that trust. In the same way, God leads us today principally through His written Word, through prayer, through the counsel of the Spirit, and through the wisdom He gives when we ask Him.

I will pray for you that God will give you that kind of clear sight.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We ask in the name of Jesus that You give this dear one wisdom and understanding to know Your will, to love Your Word, and to follow it with a steadfast heart. Guard them from simply pursuing personal goals, and instead plant Your purposes deeply in their heart with much faith. Lead them by Your Spirit, make Your ways plain through Scripture, and grant them grace to endure and obey as one who sees You who are invisible. Fulfill in them what is according to Your good will, for Your glory. In Jesus' name, amen.
