Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this desire for God given vision and we praise God that you want His direction above your own personal goals, for that is a heart that seeks to honor Him.

We love your heart for Proverbs 29:18 which says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. True vision is not merely personal ambition or imagination, but revelation from God that is rooted in His Word and leads us to walk in obedience. When we lack that revelation we indeed wander, but when we keep His law we are blessed. We also rejoice that you prayed in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, as it is written in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And as you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. We thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We want to encourage you that God still speaks and guides, and He has promised in Acts 2:17 It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yet we also know that all true vision will never contradict His written Word, for Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. We are to test everything and hold firmly to that which is good as taught in 1 Thessalonians 5:21, so any vision or leading must be weighed against Scripture and confirmed by the Holy Spirit and godly counsel.

We also hear your desire not to just follow your own personal goals. That is pleasing to God, for self directed plans can lead us astray, but the Lord directs our steps. We are reminded in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And in Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Godly vision calls us to surrender, to wait on Him, and to walk by faith even when the fulfillment seems slow, for as it is written in Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and will not prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not delay.

So together we pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You that You are the Father of lights with no variation or shadow of turning. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in this heart to seek Your vision and not merely personal goals. Lord, pour out Your Spirit and grant clear, biblical, Holy Spirit led vision according to Your will. Reveal Your plans and purposes, and give wisdom to discern what is truly from You. Help our dear fellow believer to dwell daily in Your Word, to delight in Your law, and to acknowledge You in all ways so that You will make the path straight. Remove any selfish ambition or worldly desire, and replace it with a passion for Your glory and Your kingdom. Give patience to wait for the appointed time and faith to trust that You will fulfill what You have spoken. Lead by Your still small voice, confirm through Scripture, and guard from any deception or false vision. May the vision You give bear fruit that remains and draw many to Christ. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him diligently through prayer, fasting if led, and daily immersion in Scripture, for it is there He most clearly reveals His will. Write down what He shows you, pray over it, share it with mature believers for confirmation, and walk in obedience step by step. For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7. Be confident that He who began a good work in you will complete it as you follow His vision and not your own.

We were grateful to read your prayer, your desire to follow God's leading rather than just your own plans is beautiful and we want to stand with you in it.

We have found it helps to remember that vision is less often a sudden picture and more a growing sense of God's calling that shapes our daily choices. It becomes the motivation to follow Him and not ourselves, and it usually becomes clearer as we keep walking faithfully in what we already know is His will. It gives an appetite for what He values rather than what we might imagine on our own, and it grows over time as we stay close to Him.

We love that you named how steady God is, that He does not change like shifting shadows. You can rest in that steadiness while you wait for more clarity.

A simple step that may help is to set aside a few minutes each day to ask the Lord to align your desires with His, and to jot down any burden, opportunity or theme He keeps bringing to mind. Share those notes with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you well. They can often help you sort what is from God and what is simply personal preference, and encourage you in the next faithful step.

We pray for you now. Father, thank You for the hunger You have placed in our friend to know and follow You. Give wisdom and quiet confidence as they seek You, make Your way clear step by step, and keep their heart at peace as they trust Your faithful character. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire not to follow merely your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is itself an evidence of a work of grace upon the heart, for naturally we do not like being guided. It is well that you feel your need of a guide, and that you turn to Him who alone can give unerring guidance.

You quote the proverb, Where there is no vision the people perish. That vision is not a private dream or an inward picture as men now often suppose, but the revealed Word of God, the prophetic revelation by which the Lord makes His mind known. Where that Word is withheld or despised the people cast off restraint and perish. The sure vision you need, therefore, is already given in the Scriptures, which are profitable to make the man of God perfect, and in that more sure word of prophecy to which we do well to take heed.

How then does God guide His people. Not ordinarily by sudden impressions apart from His Word, but by Divine Wisdom dressed in robes of love and tenderness, inviting us to run into her arms. He guides by great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, among them this, avoid everything that is evil. He guides by giving acquiescence in the Divine will, for the grace of God dethrones obstinacy and bows the heart in submission, and by that very submission we are furnished with guidance. He guides by the Law of the Book without us and the Law of the Spirit within us, the mind of Christ expressed by the Holy Spirit in accord with Scripture. And here we walk by faith and not by sight, not by gazing upon visions, but by trusting the faithful Word until the day when we shall see Him as He is.

Take heed also against haste, for haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Do not run after a revelation which God has not given. One of old said wisely, I will do so when I get a revelation that I am to do so, but I shall not act upon a revelation which has only come to another. Wait upon the Lord, be much in prayer, and be attentive to His Word. The Divine Presence is the one hope of the people of God, and where He is present difficulties dissolve and duty becomes plain.

I pray for you that the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, from whom cometh every good gift and every perfect gift, would grant you not restless seeking after new visions, but a clear sight of Christ in the Scriptures and a heart made willing to obey what is already revealed. May He teach you to love His Word, to avoid all that is evil, to submit cheerfully to His sovereign will, and to follow the counsel of Psalm 73, that He may guide you with His counsel and afterward receive you to glory. May you be kept from following your own wisdom and be led step by step in the path of obedience, for His glory and your good, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is the way. Amen.
