Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in thanking our Heavenly Father that He does not change like shifting shadows and we agree with you in prayer that you will receive clear direction from Him and not simply follow your own personal goals.

We love your heart to seek vision from God and your remembrance of Proverbs 29:18 where it is written Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. In the original language this vision is not merely personal ambition or a plan for success, but prophetic revelation, the revealed Word and will of God. Without His revelation we do cast off restraint and perish, but when we keep His Word we are blessed. We also rejoice that you quoted James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. What a comfort that the One who gives vision is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We want to encourage you that God still speaks and guides His children, and He desires to give you His vision for your life. It is written in Acts 2:17 It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. And in Numbers 12:6 He said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream. At the same time we are taught to test what we see and hear, for it is written in 1 John 4:1 Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God and in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. Any vision from God will never contradict His written Word, for Psalm 119:105 says Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Therefore we encourage you to seek vision first through abiding in Scripture, through prayer, through waiting on the Lord and through godly counsel, trusting Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You for this dear one who hungers for Your vision and not merely personal goals. We ask in the name of Jesus that You pour out Your Spirit upon them and make Your will known clearly. Give them visions and dreams that are from You, that are pure and aligned with Your Word, and give them discernment to test all things and hold fast to what is good. Lead them away from leaning on their own understanding and teach them to acknowledge You in all their ways so that You will direct their paths. Fulfill every good purpose You have ordained for them, for You are the Father of lights who does not change. Establish their steps by Your Word and let Your Word be a lamp to their feet. We ask that You fill them with wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, that they may walk worthy of You and bear fruit in every good work. We thank You that every perfect gift comes from Your hand and we trust You to give what is best in Your perfect timing. We pray all these things in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about this. We can hear how much you want your life to be led by God and not just by your own plans, and that desire itself honors Him.

Wanting vision is really wanting a clear sense of God's calling that shapes your choices day by day. Sometimes we expect that to come as a dramatic picture, but more often God shapes that vision gradually as we walk with Him, through His Word, prayer, and the wise counsel of others who know us. Learning to tell the difference between our own ideas and His leading takes time and testing.

One simple practice that has helped many is to keep a short, regular time to be still before the Lord, bring your decisions and desires honestly to Him, and write down what you sense He is highlighting through Scripture and through circumstances. Then bring those notes to a trusted pastor or mature believer who can help you weigh them. That steady rhythm keeps you from chasing every impulse while staying open to how He leads.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to guide Your children. We ask You to give our friend wisdom and clarity, to quiet the noise of self made goals, and to make Your way plain step by step. Help them to trust You as You lead and to follow with a willing heart. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request and we thank God for the desire planted in your heart not to follow your own personal goals but to be governed by Him.

The word you have quoted, Where there is no vision the people perish, does not speak of private dreams or new revelations, but of the prophetic Word of God, His revealed counsel. Where that holy revelation is withheld or despised, the people cast off restraint. Where it is loved and obeyed, there is life. The vision you need is not a fleeting sight of the night, but the sure Word which God has preserved century after century, and which still shines as the Father of lights with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. Every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from Him, and chief among those gifts is the light of His own will made known in Scripture.

There is a Divine will which governs all things, as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe. It is foolish for a man to say, I will go and do this or that, and to feel that everything will fall out as he desires, as if he could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. The wise heart says, I will go or I will stay, if it be the will of God, and adds in thought if not in words, If the Lord wills. There is a revealed will which we must not violate, and there is a providential will which we should always consult, which comes to us through the circumstances that surround us and through the plain directions of His Word. Nine times out of ten, look to the Ten Commandments and you will at least know what you must not do, and knowing what you must not do you will be able to conclude what you may do.

So we would have you yield to God's superior judgment, and lay aside your own logic and arguments, and say, Lord, Thou shalt guide me. The grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives us in its place acquiescence in the Divine will, and by that very bowing we are furnished with unerring guidance. He is carrying out still His one great purpose, and none of these things cometh by chance, but everything cometh according to the purpose of His own will. Rest there, and labour too, seeking His presence and asking that in its matchless power you may go forward successfully.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that Thou dost not change like shifting shadows, and that Thou fulfillest all Thy purpose. We ask Thee for our brother and sister who has sought Thy face, that Thou wouldst not leave them to the counsels of their own heart, but that Thou wouldst guide them with Thine eye. Open their eyes to behold wondrous things out of Thy law. Give them not a spirit of curiosity after novelties, but a clear sight of Christ and of Thy revealed will, that they may know what Thou hast commanded and what Thou hast promised. Teach them to say continually, If the Lord will, and to find their best profit in doing Thy will. Keep them from living in neglect of any known part of Thy will, and make them willing in the day of Thy power. Fulfil in them Thy good pleasure, and afterward receive them to glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whom alone is salvation. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire to follow God's leading rather than only your own personal goals is good and pleasing to Him, and I gladly join you in prayer for this.

The vision spoken of in Proverbs 29:18 is not primarily a private mystical experience, but God's revealed Word and guidance to His people. Where His revelation and instruction are not heard and obeyed, people cast off restraint and lose their way. What you are truly asking for, and what God delights to give, is a clear sight of His will through Scripture, so that your plans are shaped by Him.

In the early moments of great spiritual works God sometimes gave sensible visions as signs for those who needed outward sight to awaken faith. Yet afterward He calls us to walk by faith, trusting what He has already declared and holding fast to it. As one of the fathers taught, when the soul gives itself to lesser and carnal things, the clearness of its vision is dimmed and the eye of the mind is blinded. Purity of heart, love for God and His Word, and steady obedience keep vision clear.

So let us pray not only for any extraordinary sight, but for the true vision that comes from knowing Christ and His Word, and from having a heart ready to obey.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift comes down from You, the Father of lights. We thank You for calling us to a heavenly country and for giving us Your Word as a lamp to our feet.

In the name of Jesus we ask that You grant our brother or sister a true vision of Yourself, Your character, and Your will as revealed in Scripture. By Your Holy Spirit open the eyes of the heart to understand Your Word, to discern Your purposes, and to walk in them. Guard this heart from pursuing empty personal goals, and lead it instead to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness. Give wisdom, humility, and faithfulness to obey what You have already shown, and in Your goodness provide clear direction for each step ahead.

We ask this trusting in Your grace and purpose which You established in Christ before time began, and which You fulfilled through Him. May all that is done bring glory to Jesus Christ alone, through whom we have salvation.

Amen.
