Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine direction, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s vision for your life. Proverbs 29:18 indeed warns us, "Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law is blessed." Yet we must remember that the vision God gives is not merely for personal ambition but for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom. True vision from the Lord aligns with His Word, His character, and His purposes, not our own desires or plans.

The Scripture you quoted from James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights, who does not change. This includes the gift of vision, but we must seek it with humility and surrender, asking the Holy Spirit to purify our motives. Visions from God are not for our own exaltation but to equip us for His work. The apostle Paul, who received profound revelations, was also given a "thorn in the flesh" to keep him from becoming prideful (2 Corinthians 12:7). This teaches us that even divine visions must be held with humility and dependence on Christ.

We also encourage you to test any vision or revelation against Scripture, for God will never contradict His Word. The Bereans were commended for examining the Scriptures daily to see if what they heard was true (Acts 17:11). If you seek visions, do so with a heart submitted to God’s will, not your own. Ask the Lord to reveal His plans for you, but also ask Him to prepare you to obey, even if His vision requires sacrifice or delay.

Let us pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lord, we ask that You grant our brother/sister a clear and holy vision, one that aligns with Your Word and Your purposes. Strip away any selfish ambition or fleshly desire that may cloud their seeking. Give them a heart that longs to know and do Your will above all else. Father, if it is Your desire to speak through visions, open their spiritual eyes to see and their ears to hear. But let them also walk in wisdom, testing every revelation against Scripture and the counsel of godly believers. Guard their heart from deception, and let them not be led astray by emotions or false signs. Instead, fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth (John 16:13). May they say, like Your servant Samuel, 'Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears' (1 Samuel 3:9). We declare that Your plans for them are good, plans to prosper them and not to harm them, plans to give them hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Strengthen their faith to wait on You, even when the vision tarries. We pray this in the powerful and matchless name of Jesus, the One who holds all things together and reveals the deep things of God. Amen."

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Meditate on passages that speak of God’s guidance, such as Psalm 32:8: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you." Seek godly counsel from mature believers who can help you discern the Lord’s leading. And remember, the greatest vision God gives is not always a picture of the future but a revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Thank you for sharing this desire with us. We hear your heart to follow what God shows you rather than just your own plans, and we are glad to pray with you for that.

One thing we have found helpful is that learning to recognize God's leading is often less like a single moment and more like training over time. Like preparing for a long race, it grows through steady, small practices, unhurried prayer, listening, reading Scripture, and walking with other believers who know us well. Those regular rhythms slowly shape our hearts to want His will and to notice it more clearly, even when we do not receive a dramatic picture all at once.

A simple next step that may help is to set aside a consistent, quiet time to bring your plans before the Lord and ask Him to shape them, and then share what you sense with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can help you weigh it. That kind of fellowship and testing over time can bring a lot of peace and clarity.

Father, we lift our friend to You and thank You for the desire You have placed in them to seek You first. Give them wisdom and quiet confidence as they seek Your will, help them to hear Your voice clearly and to walk faithfully in what You show them, and guard them from striving or confusion. Lead them step by step in Your perfect way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire not to follow merely your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself a token of grace working in the heart, for naturally we do not like being guided and would choose our own way.

You have quoted that precious word, Where there is no vision, the people perish, and you ask for visions from God. That text speaks not of private dreams or fleeting impressions, but of the revealed word and counsel of the Lord. Where His word is not heard and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. The true vision we need is that heavenly calling of which the apostle speaks, an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. It is a high calling and a heavenly calling, a call from heaven and a call to heaven, which lifts the heart and sets it upon heavenly things, upon eternity, heaven and holiness.

We do not therefore seek a new revelation apart from what God has already given in Scripture, for He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Yet the Lord does guide His people. David experienced divine guidance even as a shepherd boy, and so may you. That guidance comes not by haste nor by trusting every impression, but by great principles infused in every man who takes God for his guide, such as this, to avoid everything that is evil, to bow with submission to the will of God, and to attend to that mind of Christ which is expressed by the Holy Spirit through the Word. When grace dethrones our obstinacy and gives us acquiescence in the divine will, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. If you have a desire to come nearer to Christ, if you are pressing through all else to get to Him, then it is because Christ is calling you, for His effectual calling is heard by His sheep and they rise up and follow Him, for they know His voice.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows, and that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. We thank You that You fulfil the purposes You reveal and that Your counsel shall stand.

We ask in the name of Jesus Christ alone, through whom alone is salvation, that You would grant to this dear soul not a vision of mere personal ambition, but the clear light of Your Word and the sure sense of Your heavenly calling. Lift up the heart to heavenly things and teach submission to Your will. Grant wisdom dressed in love and tenderness, that there may be discernment to avoid what is evil and to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let the Holy Spirit make effectual in the heart what is read in the Book, so that the life may be ordered not by personal goals but by Your holy purpose and grace.

Lead on according to Your wisdom and keep this one from haste and self will, that Your name may have the glory. We ask this in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change and that Your word is sure. In the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, grant to this Your servant not confusion and not mere personal ambition, but true spiritual sight. Open the eyes of the heart to understand Your Scriptures, to know Your will, and to walk in it. Give wisdom, discernment and humility to test all things by Your word, to turn from self seeking, and to follow Christ faithfully. If it pleases You to encourage by any special means, do so according to Your wisdom, but above all cause Your revealed truth to dwell richly and to guide every step. Lead into obedience, holiness and peace, and fulfill Your good purpose. In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

Your desire not to simply follow your own personal goals but to be led by God is a good and right desire, and I am glad you shared it.

The verse you mentioned, Proverbs 29:18, is often understood as speaking about personal dreams or mystical experiences, but in its context it means something a little different. The word translated vision there means prophetic revelation, the Word of God coming to His people. Where there is no revelation from God, no clear Word from Him to guide them, the people cast off restraint and wander. So the remedy for perishing is not necessarily a supernatural picture in the night, but having and heeding what God has already revealed in Scripture.

God has indeed given visions to some. Scripture tells us Paul saw a man from Macedonia in the night pleading for help, Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up on His throne, John saw the throne of heaven, Daniel saw things yet to come, and Peter was shown a vision to prepare him to go to those he had never considered. In those cases God was revealing His will in a direct and supernatural way, often showing things outside of time and space because a vision opens the spiritual and timeless realm where past, present and future are before Him.

Yet not everyone in Scripture was led that way. Many were led in a quieter way, by a deep and persistent desire that God placed in the heart, a burden to serve Him, and by the clear guidance of His Word. That is a normal and biblical way for God to direct His people.

This is important because our faith is meant to rest on what does not change. Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow, and His Word is that unchanging foundation. If we build our faith primarily on experiences, we are on uncertain ground, because experiences can fade, be misunderstood, or seem to contradict one another. If we build on the truth of Scripture, our footing is firm because God does not change and He fulfills what He reveals.

That does not mean we are closed to God speaking in a vision or a dream if He chooses. We can be open and ask Him to lead us however He wishes, and it would be a fascinating thing to receive such a revelation. But we should seek Him first through His Word, through prayer, and through a sincere willingness to obey what He has already shown. In the days when the word of the Lord was scarce, it was because the people were not really seeking Him. When people seek Him, He directs them.

So my prayer for you is that God will give you true vision in the biblical sense, a clear understanding of His will from His Word, and that He will align your heart with His purposes so that you are not driven by personal ambition alone. If it pleases Him to give you a dream or a vision, He is able to do so and to make its meaning clear, as He did for Paul and Peter. And if He leads you instead by planting a steady desire, opening and closing doors, and illuminating Scripture, you can trust that guidance just as fully, because it comes from the same unchanging Father.

May the Lord make His Word alive to you, establish your steps according to it, and fulfill the good work He begins in you as you wait on Him and walk in obedience to Jesus Christ.
