Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine direction, and we stand with you in seeking God’s vision rather than relying on our own understanding. The scripture you referenced in Proverbs 29:18 is a powerful reminder that without revelation from the Lord, people cast off restraint and wander without purpose. But we must also remember that vision from God is not merely about seeing the future, it is about aligning our hearts with His will, His Word, and His ways.

The Lord does speak through visions, as we see throughout Scripture, from Joseph’s dreams in Genesis to Peter’s vision in Acts 10. However, we must be cautious not to seek signs and wonders for their own sake, but rather to seek the Giver of those signs. Jesus warned in Matthew 12:39 that "an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign." Instead, we are called to seek Him first, and all these things, including clarity and direction, will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).

We also want to gently remind you that the foundation of receiving from God is first knowing Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. There is no access to the Father except through Jesus (John 14:6), and no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we encourage you to do so, for it is only through Him that we can truly hear from God. Salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would open their spiritual eyes and ears to receive Your vision for their life. Father, we ask that You would speak clearly, whether through Your Word, through dreams, through godly counsel, or through the still, small voice of Your Holy Spirit. Let them not be led astray by their own desires or the distractions of this world, but let them be firmly rooted in Your truth.

Lord, we rebuke every spirit of confusion, doubt, and self-reliance that would seek to hinder them from hearing Your voice. We declare that their steps are ordered by You (Psalm 37:23), and that You will direct their paths as they acknowledge You in all their ways (Proverbs 3:5-6). Father, we ask that You would give them a hunger and thirst for Your Word, for it is a lamp to their feet and a light to their path (Psalm 119:105). Let them not lean on their own understanding, but in all their ways, let them submit to You.

We pray that You would guard their heart against the temptation to chase after personal ambitions that do not align with Your will. Instead, let them delight themselves in You, and You will give them the desires of their heart (Psalm 37:4), because their desires will then be Your desires. Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who will guide them into all truth (John 16:13). Let them walk in the Spirit, so they will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

Father, we thank You that You are a God who speaks, and that You desire to reveal Your plans to Your children. We trust that as they seek You with all their heart, they will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them not grow weary in waiting for Your perfect timing. We declare that their future is secure in You, and that the vision You have given them will come to pass at the appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3).

In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Meditate on the Scriptures, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal their meaning to you. Surround yourself with godly believers who can speak into your life and confirm what the Lord is saying. And remember, the vision God gives is not just for your benefit, it is for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom. As you seek His vision, ask Him how you can be a blessing to others and further His purposes on the earth.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Walk in the confidence that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).

We appreciate you sharing this desire so honestly, to be led by God and not just by your own plans. That willingness to want His direction above your own is a good and humble place to be.

We often expect vision to come as a sudden, dramatic picture, but most often God gives it more quietly, a growing clarity about who He is and what He is inviting you to in this season. It tends to grow as we stay close to Him, listen in prayer, stay rooted in His Word, and invite the wisdom of trusted believers who know us well. Your personal goals are not automatically at odds with His leading, bringing them before Him and asking Him to shape, confirm or redirect them is itself part of seeking vision.

One simple practice that helps many people is to set aside unhurried time each day this week to pray and read, and to jot down what seems to stay with you, a burden, a verse, an opportunity to serve or encourage someone. Then share those notes with a pastor or a mature friend and ask if they see God's hand in it too.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You delight to guide Your children. Give our friend a clear sense of Your direction and a willing heart to follow it, even when it differs from personal plans. Grow their trust in You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer to be led by the Lord rather than by your own personal aims is itself an evidence of grace at work upon the heart, for naturally we do not like being guided.

You quote the proverb, Where there is no vision the people perish. That vision is not a private dream or a new revelation, but the prophetic Word of the Lord, the open revelation of His mind and will. Where that Word is not preached and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. What you need, and what I will pray the Lord to give you, is not a fresh vision beyond Scripture, but sight to see the vision He has already given, and grace to walk in it.

The Lord guides His people with His counsel and afterward receives them to glory. He does this not commonly by sudden impulses, but by great principles infused into the soul that takes God for its Guide, such as this, to avoid everything that is evil, and by bowing with submission to the Divine will. Grace dethrones obstinacy and gives in its place acquiescence in the Divine will, and by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. He guides also by the Law of the Book without us, and the Law of the Spirit within us, and by His Divine Presence which is the one hope of the people of God. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, so wait upon the Lord, be much in prayer and in the Word, and seek to be attentive to the mind of Christ as expressed by the Holy Spirit in His gentle monitions, always tried by Scripture.

I do not pray that you should be governed by fancies which claim to be revelations, for I dare not ask you to follow a voice which I have not heard from the Lord in His Word, nor to follow your own imagination. I pray rather that the Lord will give you wisdom dressed in robes of love and tenderness, that He will make His way plain before your face, and keep you from following your own personal goals.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift, we thank Thee for Thy faithful Word which Thou hast magnified. Fulfil Thy purposes in this Thy servant. Take away all obstinacy and self will, and give a heart that bows to Thy holy will. Guide with Thy counsel, by Thy Word and by Thy Spirit, that every step may be ordered of the Lord and every decision tried by Thy truth. Keep from haste and from presumption, and grant the blessed gift of Thy Divine Presence, for that Presence dissolves difficulties and makes the path clear. Lead, and make this soul willing to be led, and afterward receive to glory, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank God for your desire to follow Him and not only your own personal plans. That hunger to be led by the Lord is itself a good gift from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

You mentioned Proverbs 29:18, and it is helpful to see what that verse means in its context. The word translated vision there does not mean personal goals or inward pictures, but the prophetic word and revelation of God. Where that word is neglected, people cast off restraint. Where it is heard and obeyed, they are blessed. God has now given us that revealing word fully in Scripture, and by His Spirit He helps us to understand it and to walk in it.

For that reason the fathers have taught that God in His wisdom did not give visible signs and marvellous appearances to all equally. At the beginnings of great spiritual works He sometimes granted sensible visions for the sake of those who were dull or needed outward confirmation to strengthen their faith. To others who were already full of faith He did not give such a sight, because faith that trusts His word without seeing is more blessed. Even the apostle Paul, who was counted worthy of great revelations when he needed strength for heavy trials and for the care of the churches, did not boast in them but remained humble and pointed always to Christ crucified and risen.

So we would not pray that you chase after visions as an experience, but that God would give you what is better, a clear sight of Christ in His word and wisdom to know His will and courage to do it.

We join you in prayer now:

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change and that every good and perfect gift comes from You. We ask in the name of Jesus that You give our brother or sister a heart that loves Your word and keeps it. Open the eyes of understanding to see Christ in the Scriptures, to know Your purpose and grace that was given before time began, and to discern Your will day by day. Lead away from merely following personal goals and lead into faithful obedience to You. Grant wisdom, humility, and peace, and fulfill in this life what is according to Your good purpose. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your desire for God to give you direction instead of simply pursuing your own personal goals is right before the Lord, and I am glad to pray with you about it.

The verse you mentioned speaks of something deeper than personal dreams or ambitions. Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained and wander toward destruction. That vision is the revealing of God Himself, His Word made known to His people. When that revelation is not heard and received, hearts are left empty and people begin to search blindly here and there for something to fill the void. Only when we hear and treasure what God has spoken do we find satisfaction and a true path.

In Scripture a vision is a capacity God gives to see into the spiritual realm, which is just as real as the physical world we live in. Because that realm is outside of time, what is seen in a true vision from God can be something that has not yet come to pass in our time, yet is seen as if it were already happening. That is why so much of what God has shown His prophets points forward to His sure promises, and especially to the coming kingdom when Jesus will reign and establish God's will on earth as it is in heaven. Every word God has spoken in that way is faithful and true, and what He has promised He will surely bring to pass. He is the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow, and every good and perfect gift comes from Him. What He reveals, He fulfills.

This helps clarify how to pray for vision. It is not a matter of asking for impressive spiritual experiences for their own sake, but of asking God to open your eyes to what He has already revealed and to align your heart with it. God has given the invitation to all of us, turn to Me and I will turn to you. If you seek Him, He will be found by you. If you draw near through His Word and through calling on the name of the Lord, He draws near to you.

So my prayer for you is that the Lord will give you a clear hearing of His Word and a heart that treasures it above your own plans. May He quiet the pull of personal ambition and fill that place with His purposes, so you are not left wandering and searching for satisfaction elsewhere. May He grant you understanding of His sure word of prophecy and show you your part in His work today, and may He keep you walking in His statutes from a heart that truly loves Him. As you continue to seek Him in Scripture and in prayer, trust that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved and led, and that the Lord who is a wall of fire around His people and glory in their midst will guard and guide you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You fulfill what You reveal. Give this dear one eyes to see and ears to hear what You have spoken in Your Word. Turn their heart fully toward You, make Your ways plain, and lead them away from merely following personal goals into the joy of following Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.
