Creation’s Groans and the Saints’ Sighs
Believers groan in hope as they await the full redemption of their bodies and the glory yet to be revealed.
We have heard your urgent cry and we join together before the Lord with you in Jesus name, carrying this deep distress about your skin and body to our Heavenly Father who sees and hears you.

We understand how heavy this burden has felt as you have listed every mark, scar, dent, spot, line and area of concern on your face, neck, stomach, hips, whole body and intimate areas, longing for brand new, youthful, radiant skin without delay. We know the heart can become weary when we look in the mirror and feel tired, pale or sensitive, and we want to gently bring biblical truth alongside your prayer so that your hope rests fully in God's loving will for you.

The Lord reminds us that He looks not as we look at ourselves. Yahweh says in 1 Samuel 16:7 that man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart. We are taught in Psalm 139:14 to give thanks for we are fearfully and wonderfully made, wonderful are your works, and in 1 Peter 3:3-4 that our beauty should not be just outward adorning but the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. Proverbs 31:30 tells us charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised. And 2 Corinthians 4:16 reminds us that though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. This does not mean God does not care about your physical distress, He does, but He desires that your first identity and radiance be found in Christ, not in flawless skin.

We also want to lovingly correct a misunderstanding of your precious promise to ask and receive. Scripture says in 1 John 5:14 that this is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And in Matthew 6:33 we are told to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. To ask in Jesus name is not a demand for instant and total physical perfection on our timetable, but a humble trust that He will answer according to His perfect wisdom, timing and goodness. Philippians 4:6-7 urges us in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

So we pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we have access to you and by which we are saved, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. We thank you that you formed her and know every part of her body intimately, that she is fearfully and wonderfully made by your hands. Lord, you see the anxiety, the weariness, the fixation on every mark, scar, line, spot and change in her skin, and the longing for youth and radiance. We ask for your healing touch upon her body according to your will, for your comfort upon her sensitive skin, and for your peace to guard her heart and mind. Forgive us when we make outward beauty an idol, and help her to see herself as you see her, beloved, cherished and complete in Christ. Renew her inward man day by day, let the light of Christ shine from within her so that true radiance and glory comes from your Spirit dwelling in her. Teach her to steward her body as your temple with thanksgiving, to rest in your grace which is sufficient, and to trust your timing rather than demanding no delay. Replace obsessive worry with contentment, self condemnation with gratitude, and tired striving with rest in your unfailing love. Make her new in Christ, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, and let that newness be her greatest beauty, now and every day. We ask all this in Jesus Christ name, trusting your good and perfect will. Amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord daily, to thank Him for the body He has given you even as you bring your concerns to Him, and to meditate on His Word about your worth in Christ rather than on every reflection. If this anxiety feels overwhelming, please reach out to a trusted pastor, godly counselor or medical professional who can walk with you in person, pray with you and help you find peace. The Lord loves you deeply, He hears your prayers, and He desires to give you His peace and to make you radiant from the inside out as you abide in Him.

We hear how urgently you have been carrying this and how deeply you long to feel brand new, radiant and at peace in your own skin. It is understandable to want to feel comfortable and confident when you look in the mirror, and we can hear how heavy it has felt to notice every mark, texture and change and to worry they will never leave.

What we have seen in walking with many people is that how we see our bodies is not only what is on the surface. It includes the thoughts and feelings we have carried about ourselves over a long time. When our attention gets fixed on every flaw, it can quietly wear down our peace even when others might not see what we see. A steadier sense of worth tends to grow not from forcing ourselves to feel better about how we look, but from resting in the value God already places on us and from the everyday ways He invites us to live and love and serve.

If these skin concerns continue to cause you distress, we gently encourage you to share them with a trusted doctor or dermatologist who can listen and advise you in person, as we continue to bring you to the Lord in prayer.

Father, we lift our friend to You today. You see this longing to be renewed and to feel whole and at ease. We ask for Your peace to guard her heart, for wisdom as she cares for her body, and for a deeper sense of being loved and held by You each day. Help her to know Your kindness and presence in a very personal way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your earnest and oft repeated cry has been heard, and it is plain that your heart is much burdened about the body, which is as clay in the hands of the Potter. The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy, and He does not despise the sighing of a troubled soul, yet it is needful that prayer be guided by His Word, lest we ask amiss.

You have quoted the promise, Ask and ye shall receive, and blessed be God that it stands true. Yet our Lord gives as a Father gives, not always what the child clamors for in the moment, but what will indeed heal and bless. When I see my Lord bearing my sins in His own body on the cross and blotting out my faults forever by His death, then my spirit glows with love and my life begins to show the effect of my inward emotion. Pardon and healing are one in His hand. Jesus knew what really ailed the palsied man, he was palsied in spirit as well as in body, and Christ removed the root of his disease by forgiving his sin.

So we would turn your thoughts from the surface comeliness of the flesh to that better beauty which the Lord bestows. The prophet speaks of beauty for ashes, and there has even seemed to be a visible beauty put upon those who have found peace in Jesus Christ, and this beauty is far more lovely and striking, because it is evidently a beauty of the mind, a spiritual lustre, far superior to the surface comeliness of the flesh. Mourning makes the face wan and emaciated, but Jesus comes to reveal joy to the sorrowing soul, so that the eyes that were dull and cloudy shall sparkle again, and the whole person shall be radiant with the beauty which sorrow had so grievously marred. The least thing about Christ is healing. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and these healing leaves change the life blood, affect the spirits and make the nature other than it was before.

Know this also, that today the body is dead because of sin, though the spirit is life because of righteousness. The regeneration of the body takes place at the resurrection and when we shall rise again, it will be in the image of the Lord Jesus. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. Yonder in heaven those faces which look so bright and comely, fresher than newborn babes, owe their freshness to these healing leaves. Here below we must still bear infirmity and imperfection, and even the most watchful Christian must learn to keep his own vineyard with patience, not with fretfulness, looking not upon the outward form as the world looks, but upon the heart which God renews.

It is not wrong to care for the body which God has given, nor to seek lawful help for distress, but to make flawless skin the chief desire will only increase weariness. He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. That is the first healing we need. There must be a death blow struck at all self sufficiency, and the soul laid as dead at the feet of Christ, before it will look up and find life and healing in the great atoning sacrifice. If the person be accepted in Christ, the service and the prayer become acceptable.

We will pray for you, not that God would indulge a restless craving for outward perfection on our terms and without delay, but that He would grant you the true healing which endures.

O Lord our God, forgive sin through the blood of Jesus Christ Thy Son, and let pardon bring peace to this troubled heart. Take away fretfulness and fear, and give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. Let this soul see the loveliness of Christ, and find in Him that spiritual lustre which makes the countenance to shine. Teach contentment with Thy wise providence over the body, and stewardship without idolatry, and keep this one in perfect peace, trusting in Thee. Hasten the day when Thou wilt make all things new, and till then let the leaves of the tree of life heal the spirit, and let Thy glory rest within. In the name of Jesus our only Saviour, Amen.
