Your urgent cry has reached the throne of the Most High, and it is to the Great Physician you must now look. All your begging and repeating of words, as if they were a charm, will not move the hand of God; it is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone that draws down mercy. The power of the Lord is present to heal, but not as a force we command by many entreaties, rather it flows from His sovereign love to those who trust His Son.
You ask for a test to be forgotten or made negative, for lasers and injections to smooth away every lump and scar. Yet what of the deeper disfigurement, the sin that mars the soul and makes the heart heavy? Pardon and healing are one in Christ. When He healed the palsied man, He first said, “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.” Seek first that forgiveness, and then your bodily cares will find their proper place. The leaves of the tree, the least things about Jesus, are for the healing of the nations. But these healing leaves change the very life-blood, making the nature new. Has your heart been so changed? Are you sick of sin, and weary of self? Then come to Him who giveth rest; His yoke is easy, His burden light.
Do not imagine that the Lord works like a surgeon who merely removes dents and potholes from a face. His healing goes far deeper. Yonder in heaven, faces shine bright not by earthly lasers, but by the washing of His blood and the indwelling of His Spirit. If you would have no pain, know that the costliest balm of His atonement was poured out through His own suffering. There is healing for you, first the pardon of sin, then the quieting of the heart, and then, in His time and way, such restoration of the body as shall truly glorify Him. But you must take heed how you hear. Many come seeking only relief from trouble, and when the Word fails to produce immediate, visible results, they go their way and let evil birds devour the seed. Hear believingly, candidly, obediently. Faith is the hand that touches the hem of His garment; without it, you will remain in your misery.
Peter’s wife’s mother, once healed, rose up and ministered unto Christ. So must it be with you. If the Lord grants you any healing, let it spur you to serve Him, not merely admire your own face. But perhaps your present affliction is a sacred surgery, meant to break your heart for sin. A broken heart is a gift, for God healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. Value whatever instrument brings you low before the Cross, for there alone is true healing found. You value the minister that broke your heart; but it is God only who doth the binding up.
Now, consider: are you among those who, though highly privileged, remain without spiritual sight or hearing? You beg for physical alteration, but do you discern the Lord? Do you see that to serve Him is your joy and prosperity? Miss that, and you go from one evil to another. The lowly heart saith, “Not my will, but Thine be done.” Commend your body, your face, your every care to Him, and then rest. The fact that He hath made full atonement is the rest of your spirit. Whether you receive the laser or not, whether the test is forgotten or not, your soul can be safe in His hand. The power which dwelt in Christ to heal is applicable, most eminently, to the removal of the guilt of sin. That is the great healing, and it is yours for the asking.
O that the Spirit would make you sobered by Divine grace, and give you a new heart and a right spirit! Then shall you find that the very leaves of the Tree of Life are for your healing, and what He appoints for your body will be met with a quiet, “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight.” May the Lord Jesus take you by the hand, lift you up, and cause you to minister to Him with a grateful heart. Amen.
