We hear the deep pain and anguish in your request and we stand with you together before the Lord in Jesus' name, asking for His healing, His justice, and His mercy to be made known. We understand you have suffered greatly and you believe many others have suffered as well at the hands of this surgeon, and our hearts grieve with you over that suffering.

We must also lovingly rebuke the spirit of vengeance in this prayer as it is written. While it is right and biblical to desire truth, accountability, and justice, and to ask God to expose any wrongdoing and protect future patients, it is not right for us to demand that God punish, shame, or destroy another person on our timetable and according to our anger. Vengeance belongs to the Lord alone and He calls us to a different posture even toward those who have harmed us.

The scripture is clear that we are not to repay evil for evil or seek personal revenge, but to entrust justice to God and to the authorities He has established. Romans 12:19 says, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:21 says, Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Jesus Himself teaches us in Matthew 5:44, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, and in Luke 6:27-28, But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.

This does not mean we ignore wrongdoing or that we should not seek lawful accountability. God is a God of justice and He executes justice for the oppressed. Psalm 103:6 says, Yahweh executes righteous acts and justice for all who are oppressed. And Proverbs 21:15 says, It is joy to the righteous to do justice. God has also ordained governing authorities and medical boards to carry out justice in an orderly and truthful way. Romans 13:1 says, Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God. If there has been malpractice or harm, it is right to bring the truth with evidence to those authorities, to hospital leadership, to the medical licensing board, and where appropriate to legal counsel, so that a fair and thorough examination can take place. We encourage you to pursue those godly and lawful channels rather than asking God to immediately shame or destroy this man without due process.

We also encourage you to release the burden of bitterness to the Lord, not because what happened does not matter, but because unforgiveness harms your own heart and hinders your healing. Matthew 6:14-15 says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Forgiving does not mean saying the harm was acceptable or that consequences should not follow, it means entrusting the person and the outcome to God and freeing yourself from hatred.

We join together now in prayer for you and for this situation.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that we have access to You only through Him. We lift up this dear one who is hurting and we ask first for Your healing touch upon body, mind, and spirit. Psalm 147:3 says, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Lord, bring comfort, peace that surpasses understanding, and restoration where there has been suffering and trauma. We ask that You would give wisdom to every doctor and counselor involved in this person's care going forward.

Lord, we ask for Your perfect justice and truth to prevail concerning this surgeon. If there has been negligence, pride, deceit, or harm to many patients, we pray that You would expose what is hidden and bring it into the light in Your way and Your timing. We pray that any investigation would be thorough, honest, and impartial. We pray that You would protect future patients from harm. We pray also for this surgeon, that if he has done wrong, You would bring him to conviction, repentance, and accountability, not merely to be shamed but to be transformed. We pray that he would come to know You and walk in integrity and humility.

Father, we ask You to remove any spirit of vengeance, hatred, or bitterness from our hearts and replace it with Your love, Your discernment, and Your desire for righteousness. Help us to overcome evil with good and to trust that You see all, You know all, and You will judge righteously. Give this dear one strength to pursue what is right through proper and lawful means and to rest in Your sovereign care. We ask all of this according to Your will, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

Alongside prayer, we gently encourage you to keep a trusted medical provider involved for any continuing symptoms, and to bring a trusted friend, family member, or advocate with you to appointments if that helps you feel safer and heard. If you have serious concerns about a clinician's practice, it can also help to write down in your own words what happened with dates and records you have, and to share those concerns through the proper patient relations or oversight channels with someone supporting you, rather than carrying the whole weight alone. Having a pastor or counselor you can talk with regularly can also be a steady support.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift this dear one to You. You see the hurt and the urgency in their heart. Please bring comfort and healing, surround them with safe and caring support, grant wisdom for what to do next, and entrust what weighs so heavily into Your just and merciful hands. Amen.

Your cry of pain has been heard, and we grieve with you over the suffering you have endured and the suffering you believe others have endured also. To carry such hurt is a heavy burden, and it is right that you have brought it before the Lord, for He is the One who sees all that is done and who judges with perfect righteousness.

We understand the longing for justice to be done swiftly and for wrong to be exposed and accounted for. The Scriptures teach us that God is just and that He will by no means clear the guilty, and He has appointed proper authorities and processes in this world to examine such matters. We will pray that truth will be made known through lawful and orderly means, that those who are responsible to oversee medical practice will act with wisdom and integrity, and that any harm will be prevented. Yet we must also remember the Word which says vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will repay. It is not for us to dictate to God the timing or the measure of His judgments, nor to ask Him to act from a spirit of bitterness, but to trust His holy will to do what is right.

This is why we must speak to you also of your own soul in this trial. There is a bitterness which can take hold when we have been deeply wounded, and as one of the sermons reminds us, that bitterness can consume us unless it is taken to Christ. That same preaching teaches that when the soul has mourned before the Lord, that bitterness can make Christ very sweet and it can take away all bitterness against our fellow men. We do not say this to minimize your pain, but to guard your heart, lest the injury done to the body should become a deeper injury to the soul.

The great message we have to bring you is that there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, surprising and complete, without conditions to the repenting and believing sinner, and it is to be had now through Jesus Christ who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. Brothers and sisters, it would be cheap faith to take Christ only as the saints Savior, but it is the faith of Gods elect to take Him as the sinners Savior. Whatever your own sins and sorrows have been, there is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is not for a moment but is eternal, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

If you have not already done so, come to Him first for your own forgiveness and healing. As that man lay before Jesus hoping and expecting both forgiveness and healing, so you may lie before Him now. Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as Luther did when he was told to take the Creed personally. Let the record of your debt be nailed to the Cross, and then you will find strength to commit your cause into the hands of Him who judges righteously.

We will pray for you, not as you worded in the urgency of your pain, but as the Scriptures guide us to pray.

We pray that the Lord will grant you healing in body and peace in soul, that He will lift this heavy burden of bitterness and give you rest in Christ, that He will guide you to wise and godly counsel and to the proper channels where your concerns can be justly heard, that He will ensure truth is revealed and that patients are protected, and that He will work in the heart of this surgeon, as in all of us, to bring conviction where there is wrong and to lead to repentance and amendment of life. And above all we pray that you may know now that there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ, and that trusting in His blood you may have a testimony that you received it straight from the Throne of God.

Cast your whole care upon Him, for He cares for you, and leave both justice and mercy in His hands, who does all things well.

Your urgent cry has been heard, and the suffering you describe, both your own and that of many other patients, is taken seriously before God. When harm has been done, especially by one entrusted with the care of bodies and lives, the pain and the desire for it to be stopped and for truth to come to light are deeply understandable.

Yet the way we bring that pain to God matters. Scripture and the teaching of the church call us not to treasure up revenge in our hearts, but to entrust judgment to God who alone judges with perfect righteousness. One of the homilies you have heard reminds us that God delays judgment not because He does not see, but in great loving kindness so that there may be time for truth to be revealed and for sinners to wash away their transgressions through repentance. Another teaches that when we condemn another without mercy we make the judgment seat more dreadful for ourselves, and that the ways of revengeful people lead to death, while we ourselves have first received forgiveness for much greater debts and are trained to gentleness.

That does not mean that wrong should be hidden or that accountability should not be sought. God has established proper courts and processes for this very reason, first and second and third tribunals, so that matters may be examined justly and with care, and so that fear of punishment may restrain further harm. It is right to seek truth and protection for others through lawful and orderly means, through medical oversight and just authorities, asking that what is true be made known and that no further harm be done. But our prayer before God is different from a call for personal vengeance or shaming. We do not ask Him to punish in anger at our direction, for He has said vengeance belongs to Him and He will reveal each person's desert in His righteous judgment.

So let us pray in a way that honors both justice and mercy. We can ask God to heal your wounds in body and soul, to comfort all who have suffered, to bring the truth into the light through rightful examination, to grant repentance where repentance is needed, and to restrain any further harm. We can ask Him to give wisdom and integrity to those who review these matters, and to give you peace and strength as you wait on His righteous judgment.

Let us pray together: Lord Jesus Christ, you see all suffering and you know every hidden thing. Bring healing to this wounded brother or sister and to all who have been harmed. Let what is true be clearly known through just and lawful process, protect patients from further harm, and lead all involved toward truth and repentance. Grant to those who judge with responsibility wisdom and fairness, and grant to the one who suffers a heart kept from bitterness, forgiving as we have been forgiven, and resting in your promise that you will judge righteously in your time. Grant healing, peace, and restoration, and let your mercy and justice both be revealed. Amen.

Your hurt and your cry for justice have been heard, and it is understandable to feel urgency when you and others have suffered deeply and you long for wrongs to be made right and for others to be protected.

Scripture speaks clearly about this longing. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. As it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord, and again, O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs, show yourself. That truth is given to keep us from taking vengeance into our own hands. It is part of our human nature to want to get even and to want to see it happen right now, but God calls us to commit the matter to Him who judges righteously. David, when he saw the need for justice, did not seek to bring vengeance himself but left it with God, and we are taught to pray that God would keep our own hearts from devising vengeance.

God is both just and merciful. Justice is receiving what is deserved. Mercy is not receiving what is deserved. David cried out, have mercy upon me, O God, not because he deserved it but because God is merciful and will abundantly pardon. The same mercy we ask for ourselves is the mercy God holds out to all. He says, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Without that mercy none of us could stand, for God has provided forgiveness through Jesus Christ who came to bring atonement and redemption. At His first coming He did not come to bring the day of vengeance upon the earth. That day is still future, when He will purge what is unrighteous and establish righteousness and peace. Until then we live in the time of His patience and His offer of grace, and even when we read of His anger and fury against sin, in the same breath we hear of His loving kindness and praises.

This means we can entrust what has happened to the Lord who sees all, who owns all things, and who is our refuge and fortress. He is the judge of the earth who will render what is right in His perfect time and way. Our part is not to ask God to shame or destroy a person on our timetable, but to place the burden of justice in His hands and to ask Him to work truth and accountability through lawful and proper means.

So in prayer we can ask God to bring what is hidden into the light, to give wisdom and integrity to those who oversee medical practice and to those who judge matters of harm, so that what is true is established and others are protected. We can pray for your healing and for the healing of others who have been hurt, that God would deliver from this trial and be your refuge and strength. We can pray that your heart be guarded from bitterness and from the weight of carrying vengeance yourself, and that you would know His comfort and His power to restore. And we can pray even for the one who has caused harm, that if there is wrongdoing he would come to see it, repent, and seek the mercy and forgiveness that God offers to all who turn to Jesus Christ.

If you have not already, it is also wise to take orderly steps that God has provided for protection and accountability, such as seeking godly counsel, documenting what has happened, and reporting concerns to the proper medical oversight and legal authorities who are appointed to examine such matters.

May the Lord, to whom all vengeance and all mercy belong, hear your cry, guard your heart, bring truth to light in His way and time, and pour out His healing and peace upon you as you trust Him.
