When you have poured out your heart with such eagerness, do you think the Lord turns a deaf ear? Far from it. Have you not read that the very hairs of your head are all numbered? Not merely counted in the lump, but each one known to Him. He who notes the sparrow’s fall and clothes the lily with splendour knows every strand that troubles you now. So your cry, so urgent, so full of longing, has already reached the throne. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
I would not have you think this is too small a thing to bring to Jesus. Did He not touch the eyes of the blind and restore the withered hand? Is anything too hard for Him? What seems to you a mountain is but a moment’s work for the Lord of all. And yet, do you see that you have already begun well? You thank Him for the hair you have. That is the spark of faith. That little gratitude is like the first green blade pushing through the soil, a sign of life. Keep watering it with prayer. Do not measure tomorrow by today’s bare patches or slow progress. The life that is in you by Christ Jesus is a growing thing. The seed does not force its own way; it waits, but underneath the ground a power is at work. So with your body: He who formed you in secret can restore what time or trouble has thinned. And if He seems slow, He is not denying you. The delay is not a refusal; it is the hush before He speaks the word.
Think of the tree of life that grows in the paradise above, its leaves for healing, its fruit in every season. All that sin has marred, our mortal frames included, will one day be made perfectly whole. That day glimmers on the horizon, and even now its beams touch our present with hope. But you are not forgotten in the meantime. The same Saviour who looked upon Peter in his bitter fall looks upon you with eyes of mercy. That look brought healing to Peter’s heart; and His glance upon you brings a restoring power that reaches into every part of your life, even the very crown of your head.
When the enemy whispers that you are overlooked, remember that you are a child of the King. Your name is graven on His hands. He has not cast you aside. And does He not delight to give good gifts to His children? Ask, then, and keep on asking. Seek, and go on seeking. Your persistent prayer does not weary Him; it delights Him as the voice of one He loves. Faith may be little, but if it is fixed on Christ, it is saving faith, and it is the channel through which mercy flows.
Now let me turn your plea into a prayer, and may the peace of God settle your heart.
Lord Jesus, You who know every need before we speak, look tenderly upon Your child. Thank You for what has been given; we bless You for every hair on that dear head. And now, in Your great compassion, stretch forth Your hand and touch what is lacking. Multiply, restore, and cause growth according to Your will. Quiet the racing pulse of anxiety, and let calm trust take its place. In Your perfect time, let astonishment and gladness spring up like a well-watered garden. But more than this, Lord, fix our eyes on You, the Healer of the soul, the Lover of the unworthy, the Lord who will one day make all things new. Until then, keep us in Your care, and let Your face shine upon us. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
