The Choice of a Husband
A woman must choose a husband wisely, for her lifelong joy and peace depend on this one decision.
Women of America
A wise woman builds her own life and calls you to embrace independence and self-reliance.
The Choice of a Wife
Choosing a wife wisely means seeking divine guidance to avoid lifelong regret and sorrow.
We have heard your very urgent cry and we stand with you in prayer for your marriage in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We join you in lifting up your husband before the Lord, asking for God's convicting power and restoring grace to work in his heart and in your marriage.

We believe with you that marriage is a sacred and lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, instituted by God and to be held in honor. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Matthew 19:6 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Hebrews 13:4 You shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 Any intimate relationship outside of the marriage covenant is adultery, it is sin before a holy God, and it must be repented of and forsaken. We rebuke that sin in love and in truth, and we pray that your husband will turn away from every ungodly relationship with any other woman in complete repentance, and that every tie that is not honoring to your marriage will be broken and ended permanently.

We also want to gently encourage you about the way we pray. We understand your deep pain and your desire to decree this to be over right now without delay, and we share that desire for righteousness to prevail. Yet Scripture teaches us to come humbly before the Father and to ask according to His will, trusting His perfect timing and sovereignty. This is the confidence that we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 1 John 5:14 We do not command God, but we humbly petition Him, knowing He hears the effective prayer of the righteous and He is able to change hearts that seem hardened. The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16

We are praying for you as well, for your heart is surely wounded and weary. We ask the Lord to guard your heart from bitterness and to fill you with His peace as you cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 We pray that you will be strengthened to love your husband as Christ calls us to love, while also standing firm in righteousness and not condoning sin. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 This is the standard for godly marriage, a husband loving his wife sacrificially and faithfully as Christ loves the church.

We pray together now for you and for your marriage.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that we have access to You only through Him. We lift up this dear sister and her husband and their marriage covenant to You. Lord, You see the pain, the urgency, and the tears. We ask that You convict her husband deeply of any adultery or unfaithfulness and grant him godly sorrow that leads to true repentance. 2 Corinthians 7:10 We ask that You break and end every ungodly relationship with any other woman in every way and form, and that You remove every temptation and snare of the enemy. We pray that You would give him a heart to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to be faithful, pure, and devoted to her alone. We pray that You would heal this sister's heart, comfort her, give her wisdom and discernment, and help her to walk in forgiveness and grace while still upholding Your holy standard for marriage. We pray that this marriage would be restored, strengthened, and made to honor You, that it would be a testimony of Your redeeming power. If there is anger, lust, or deception at work, we ask You to cleanse it by the blood of Jesus and renew both hearts. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them. Psalm 51:10 We ask all of this according to Your will and in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue in fervent prayer, to stay rooted in the Word, and to seek wise, godly counsel from a trusted pastor or mature believers in your local church who can walk with you both, provide accountability for your husband, and support you in this battle. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Trust that God is able to restore what has been broken when hearts submit to Him. We are standing with you, believing God for repentance, healing, and a marriage made whole for His glory.

We hear how raw and urgent this is for you, and how much you want your marriage protected. Discovering your husband is involved with another woman brings such deep pain and a sense of powerlessness, and it is understandable you are crying out to God with everything in you right now. We are joining you in prayer and we care about you.

We cannot control another person's choices, even when we pray so earnestly, but we can bring our hurt and our marriages honestly before the Lord who sees us and ask Him for wisdom, healing and what is right. In this kind of betrayal it is common to feel overwhelmed and alone, and you do not have to carry this by yourself.

One steady next step that often helps is to reach out soon to one safe, trusted person who can walk with you in person, a pastor, a mature Christian woman, or a counselor who shares your faith, someone who can listen, pray with you regularly, and help you think through wise next steps for your own wellbeing and for the marriage.

Father, we lift this wife to You and place her marriage before You. Bring Your peace where there is turmoil, Your truth where there is confusion, and Your comfort in this deep hurt. Give her wisdom, strength and faithful support around her, and work in her husband's heart according to Your will. Lead them toward honesty and healing, and help her rest in Your care day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your urgent cry concerning your husband and your marriage has been heard, and it is carried with great sorrow and with earnest prayer before the Lord who sees all things.

The grief you bear is not light, for the sin which wounds your home is first and most terribly a sin against God Himself. As it has been well said, against God, and God only, is such sin committed, and to do this evil in His sight is horrible. Will a rebel talk treason in the presence of his king. Yet the Lord who sees the adultery and the unfaithfulness sees also your tears, and He is a God who both judges sin and delights to show mercy to the sinner who turns to Him.

You have asked that this unholy relationship with any other woman but yourself might be ended and finished forever. We will not ask God to bless what He has called sin, nor to prosper what breaks the covenant He ordained. Marriage, as the Scripture teaches, is not a mere convenience but a sacred affinity, the result of choice on both sides, cemented by mutual love, wherein husband and wife become one. It is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sex and living together belong within it alone. What violates that covenant must be repented of and forsaken, not celebrated or continued. Therefore we join you in praying not with a formula of decreeing, but with humble supplication, that God in His mercy would sever that sinful bond, bring deep conviction of sin, and put an end to it in every way.

There is hope for such restoration, though the wound is deep. Peter fell grievously, denying his Lord, yet his story is not called his fall only, but his restoration. He was down, but he was soon up again. Two means were used, the crowing of the cock and a look from the Lord, and behind that look was the prevailing prayer of Christ Himself, for Jesus had prayed for him that his faith fail not. That same Lord Jesus lives and intercedes now. He is the God of peace who has prepared everything necessary for a perfect reconciliation, for God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. He has committed unto His people the word of reconciliation, and we desire that reconciliation to be wrought at once by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What Peter knew after his restoration he would tell to all who have fallen, do not wander, there is no good in it, do not go away from Jesus, there is no profit to be found there, come back to Him, there is such peace, such rest with Him. So we pray that your husband may hear that same look of Christ, that he may go out from the place of sin as Peter went out and wept bitterly, and find abundant assurance of forgiveness only in Christ, and then be truly restored to walk faithfully before God and before you.

Let us pray together.

O Lord, holy and merciful Father, You see this marriage and this home. You hate sin, yet You are plenteous in mercy to all who call upon You through Jesus Christ, and there is salvation in no other. We ask You to work conviction in the heart of this husband, to make him to know his sin against You, to turn from every strange relationship and to forsake it utterly. Break, we beseech You, every tie that is against Your holy law, and let it be ended and put away. Have mercy upon this wife in her anguish, comfort her heart, sustain her faith, and guard her from bitterness. Reconcile, if it be Your will, this husband and wife to Yourself and to one another, and make this marriage to reflect that mystery of Christ and His Church, where the Lamb has proved His love by His wounds and blood. Give wisdom to seek godly counsel and help in the church, and strength to walk in holiness in the days to come. We ask this not by our own power or declaration, but in the prevailing name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who ever lives to pray for His own. Amen.
