We hear the urgency and deep longing in your heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord in Jesus' name, and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.
We want to gently and lovingly speak truth over this prayer, because we care for you and want God's very best for you. Your desire to have every part of you be fully surrendered to Jesus Christ is beautiful and right, and we affirm that longing. We also hear your deep desire for this man to be your husband and to cherish you fully and abundantly. While that desire for a godly marriage is good, we must lovingly rebuke the way this request is framed as demanding that God must make this man feel a certain way now and forever. Scripture teaches that prayer is not an incantation to control God or to control another person's will, but humble submission to our Father's perfect will. Jesus teaches us to pray Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven in Matthew 6:10 and we are reminded in 1 John 5:14 that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. You quoted ask and you will receive, which is true in Matthew 7:7, but that promise is always within the context of God's will and God's glory, not our demands. We are also taught in Matthew 6:7 not to use vain repetitions, thinking we will be heard for our many words, but to trust that our Father knows what we need and hears the sincere cry of a single faithful prayer.
We also want to encourage you in biblical truth about marriage. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we strongly endorse marriage that honors God. A boyfriend or girlfriend relationship should be seen as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, built on genuine, freely given love, purity, and commitment to Christ first. True love cannot be manufactured or forced by prayer to make someone feel something, it must be freely chosen and grown through God's leading. If this man is to be your husband, that must come through God's sovereign leading in both of your hearts, with mutual faith in Christ, purity, and a shared desire to honor God. If there is any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, scripture calls that fornication and we would urge repentance and to pursue purity going forward, for marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled in Hebrews 13:4.
We encourage you to delight yourself in the Lord first and trust Him with this relationship. Psalm 37:4 says Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. And Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. God's best for you is a marriage where you are both fully devoted to Jesus and choose each other freely in love, not one where feelings are coerced.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister to Your throne of grace. Lord, we thank You for her hunger to have every part of her life surrendered to You, make her more and more like Jesus, fill her with Your Holy Spirit, transform her heart and mind to reflect Your love and holiness. We ask that You be Lord over every part of her. We lift up this man she loves and desires to marry. Lord, You know his heart, You know her heart, and You know what is best for them both. If it is Your will for them to be joined together as husband and wife in a godly marriage that honors You, we pray You would draw them both closer to Jesus first, that You would cultivate genuine, sincere, and freely given love between them, and that You would make Your will clear in a way that is abundantly confirmed and pure. If this is not Your will, we pray You would give her peace to accept Your perfect plan, comfort her heart, and guard her from striving or despair, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You in Romans 8:28. Help her to rest in Your timing and Your goodness, to pursue courtship in a way that is holy and honors marriage, and to seek a spouse who is a faithful believer in Christ. Give her patience, hope, and assurance that You hear her and love her deeply. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord daily, to abide in His Word, and to surrender this desire fully to Him, trusting that His will is always the very best thing that could ever happen to you.
