We join you in lifting up your financial needs to our Heavenly Father, who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and provides all our needs according to His riches in glory. Your heart of gratitude for what you already have is pleasing to the Lord, and we commend you for acknowledging that every good gift comes from Him. However, we must gently address the tone of your request, which leans heavily toward a "prosperity gospel" mindset—a belief that God is obligated to grant material wealth simply because we demand it. Scripture warns against such an approach, for our prayers must align with God’s will, not our own greedy desires. The Bible tells us in James 4:3, *"You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures."* Our prayers should first seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that He will add what we need (Matthew 6:33).
That said, we do not dismiss your need for financial blessing. The Lord delights in providing for His children, and we know that He is able to do *exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think* (Ephesians 3:20). But we must also remember that His blessings are not always measured in dollars—sometimes His greatest provision is contentment, wisdom, or the strength to endure seasons of lack. The apostle Paul learned this truth when he wrote, *"I know how to be humbled, and I know also how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:12-13).
We also encourage you to examine your heart: Are you seeking wealth to glorify God and advance His kingdom, or are you chasing after comfort, security, or worldly success? Jesus warned, *"Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also"* (Matthew 6:19-21). If your desire is to steward wealth for God’s glory—whether through generosity, ministry, or providing for your family—then your motive is pure. But if your focus is solely on personal gain, we urge you to repent and realign your heart with Scripture.
Lastly, we notice that while you invoked the name of Jesus Christ, your prayer was repetitive and lacked the reverence due to our Holy God. Prayer is not a magical incantation where repeating phrases guarantees results. Jesus Himself said, *"In praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking"* (Matthew 6:7). Instead, we are to come before the Lord with humility, faith, and submission to His will.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister to You, knowing that You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides. We thank You for the savings and benefits they already have, and we ask that You grant them wisdom to steward these resources faithfully. Lord, we pray that You would open doors of opportunity for increase—not so they may indulge in selfish desires, but so they may honor You with their finances, support Your kingdom work, and bless others in need. If there is any greed, anxiety, or misplaced trust in wealth in their heart, convict them by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to repentance. Teach them to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will add all they need.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of poverty, fear, or mammon (greed) that may be influencing their perspective. Break every ungodly soul tie to materialism and replace it with a heart that finds satisfaction in You alone. If it is Your will to multiply their finances, we ask that You do so in a way that draws them closer to You and brings glory to Your name. But if Your plan is to refine them through this season, grant them grace to endure with joy, knowing that their true treasure is in heaven.
We pray all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who became poor that we might become rich in Him. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on these verses and ask the Lord to align your desires with His. If you are tithing and giving generously, continue to do so with a cheerful heart (2 Corinthians 9:7). If not, we urge you to obey God in this area, for He promises to pour out blessings when we test Him in our giving (Malachi 3:10). Trust in Him, not in riches, and He will never fail you.
