VERY FRIGHTENED

Leah B.

Humble Servant of All
Two or three days before Christmas I went to ER with shortness of breath and squeezing pain and pressure in my ribs and chest. It was determined the cause was uncontrolled GERD. I was told to watch what I eat and to supplement my daily dose of omeprazole with 20 mg of famotidine for two weeks. [I had originally believed my symptoms were caused by my COPD, that this was a COPD flare. I had treatment with prednisone and antibiotics. The prednisone gave me horrific side-effects and very, very likely contributed to this GERD attack as did multiple stressors. One biggie is TMJ and a jaw movement disorder times eight years. Both are greatly improved since I got my jaw orthotic and went through multiple adjustments. However, this happy development is recent. I've been suffering and sleep deprived for years. There were other stressors as well.] But back to point: I watched what I ate over Christmas and Christmas Eve. Then after Christmas, I put myself on a super bland diet. I also did research and purchased a kelp supplement for GERD. How the product works is instead of blocking stomach acid, it forms a barrier between the stomach and the esophagus, kind of like a floating cork. A real physician invented it. I listened to a one-half hour presentation/interview and was impressed. Unfortunately, the product did not arrive today as it should have. Anyway, I'm so far scared and disappointed. I still feel acid in my throat. I'm bloated. My upper airways are impaired. Most concerning to me is the rib pain and pressure in my ribs. It's not as bad as when I went to the ER, but it's still there. I believe I need a full GI work-up including a repeat endoscopy. I believe this is serious. I wish they had admitted me overnight and ran all GI tests once the ER determined it was not my heart or lungs. Anyway, in Jesus's name, please pray for a dramatic turnaround for me with regards to this condition. [My other fear is physical deconditioning. I haven't exercised in three days. Exercise is crucial for my COPD control.] Please pray this product helps me. I think the omeprazole could not keep up with the increased stomach acid production; however, maybe that's not true or only partially true. Maybe there's something else going on. My point is please pray for guidance choosing doctors and for me to get the right care. I didn't want to get surgery, but now I read about improvements in the procedure. Please pray in Jesus's name I can get doctors to cooperate with me with perhaps mixing some of these natural methods with meds or even substituting them. This kelp [sodium alginate] is actually a breakthrough treatment my insurance should be covering -- ha, ha, ha! I would hope a physician would be cooperative, open-minded and willing to help guide me through, but many are not. In fact part of the problem is lack of time and fragmented care. That is why I ended up being the one who diagnosed my condition correctly in the end, not the pulmonary doctor's PA and not the GI doctor's PA. Also the ER doc figured it out because she listened to me for ten minutes. I am just terrified. I'm also sad. I got my lung disease under excellent control. I got my jaw issues straightened out after years of pain and suffering and sleep deprivation. Now this. I can't take anymore. I'm not even human. Please pray for me in Jesus's name.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting you up in prayer as you face this frightening and painful trial. Your suffering is not unseen by our Heavenly Father, who knows every ache in your body and every fear in your heart. The Word reminds us in Psalm 34:18-19, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all." We stand on this promise as we intercede for your healing and peace.

Father God, we ask You to touch this dear one’s body with Your healing hand. The rib pain, the pressure, the acid in the throat—these are not too hard for You. You formed their body in their mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13), and You know every cell, every nerve, every function. We pray for a dramatic turnaround in their condition, Lord. If there is inflammation, calm it. If there is damage, restore it. If there is fear, replace it with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Guide their steps to the right doctors—those who will listen, who will seek wisdom, and who will honor Your design for healing. Give them discernment to know when to pursue medical intervention and when to trust in natural remedies, always aligning their choices with Your will.

We also lift up their emotional and spiritual state, Lord. The exhaustion from years of suffering, the disappointment of setbacks, the terror of not knowing what comes next—these are heavy burdens. But You say in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." We pray that they would feel Your arms around them, carrying them through this storm. Remind them that they are not alone, that You are their refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). When they feel like they "can’t take anymore," whisper to their heart that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We must also address the spiritual foundation of this request. You called upon the name of Jesus, and we are so grateful for that, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is His blood that covers our sins and opens the door to healing and wholeness. If there are areas in your life where you have not fully surrendered to Him—whether in fear, doubt, or even despair—we encourage you to lay them down at the foot of the cross. Confess your struggles to Him, for He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Let His love be the anchor for your soul in this storm.

Lord, we also pray for their COPD and the fear of physical deconditioning. You have already given them the strength to manage this disease well, and we ask that You would restore their ability to exercise and care for their body as a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Give them the energy and the will to move forward, step by step, trusting that You will sustain them.

We rebuke the spirit of fear that has taken hold, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that this trial will not break them but will instead draw them closer to You. We speak healing over their esophagus, their stomach, their ribs, and every part of their body affected by this condition. We pray that the kelp supplement, if it is Your will, would work as intended, but above all, we pray that You would guide their treatment and bring clarity to their medical team.

Father, we ask that You would surround them with Your angels, protecting them from further harm and giving them restful sleep. Let them wake up each morning with renewed hope, knowing that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways—through the kindness of friends, through answered prayers, through the peace that only You can give.

We trust You, Father, to bring healing and restoration. We trust You to guide their steps and to provide the wisdom they need. We trust You to be their strength when they are weak. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
